I hope this is the end of this kind of thing in Hollywood Nah. The fact that Harvey has lost a lot of his stroke over the past few years is the only reason this is happening now. Not saying he doesn't deserve the fall; he most certainly does, but for every Harvey Weinstein, there is a bunch of men in high places that will NEVER be exposed for the horrible shit they've done. At least not while they're alive.

There are certain people who have been associated with the Weinstein on a professional level over the years that are getting dragged over the coals right now and a lot of them don't deserve it.
Like Kevin Smith, for example, was he supposed to know what Harvey was up to in private meetings in Hollywood when he was busy making movies in Jersey for most of that time?

Linda Fiorentino, Sean Young, Kim Bassinger to a degree, these people were huge stars who just... stopped being stars. The reasons weren't for accusing people, but they got dropped for even less. What makes people think that wouldn't happen to other actresses for talking? Being in big hits, being a star, it doesn't protect you if people decide to stop working with you. You disappear, and that's not even bringing up getting eviscerated in court with victim blaming and character questioning by defense teams, the cops themselves being, charitably, woefully untrained to deal with sexual assaults, etc, and the court of public opinion that jumps to the conclusion that people want a hand out. It's also a problem of their word versus the accused, rarely with much physical evidence they can rely on, and you have to just hope you have some texts or whatever you didn't delete out of disgust, or some witnesses willing to also put themselves on the line for you. The deck is stacked against the accuser even when it's some layperson, much less a mogul or deeply-entrenched power player. It's a warm, comforting thought that the truth always wins out, but that's not always the reality. Evidence and accusations have to mount because it gets to be too much to bury easily or dismiss as disgruntled ex-emplouyees, etc. Well, Sean Young..... She did some crazy shit.

utterly overblown nonsense the LOT OF IT! How exactly is one of the most powerful movie executives in Hollywood being outed as using his position of power to be a sexual predator - something he has admitted to - “overblown nonsense”?

Rose McGowan is on a one-woman crusade to call out literally every Weinstein-associated male actor, producer, and director right now for being at least knowledgeable of what he did, if not complicit in covering it up (specifically Ben Affleck, in the latter case). I respect her for standing up for what’s right, and I’m sure Weinstein didn’t keep his actions in a bubble away from the attention of everybody he ever had work for him, but I can’t help but feel tarring everybody with the same brush is counterproductive.

Yeah, I've heard as much, I just was using them as an example of how stardom doesn't protect you if people don't want to cast you.

And typically he focused on women with a lot to lose rather than big stars.

As for why it took this long to speak out about it...remember when a bunch of actors/directors DEFENDED Polanski? Despite what he did being an open and shut case? This kind of thing is only finally being taken more seriously now but a few years back anyone making this kind of claim on such a big Hollywood player would have immediately become a non-person.

It’s the US version of Jimmy Savile.

It’s the US version of Jimmy Savile. I thought that was Joe Paterno given that both of them had their dirt “dug up” after their respective deaths.

It would be nice if these reveals happened before the person abused their power for decades. There's surely a lot more skeletons in closets out there. I say blow all those closet doors wide open and clean house. I read he blackmailed people and that's likely why they didn't come out sooner. They didn't want to lose their careers. Can you imagine one of his accusers having to endure that kind of treatment? I'd imagine it would cause PTSD if he went further.

No, the JoePa stuff came out the summer before his death. And to the best of my knowledge, he was never implemented in the actual sexual misconduct just in covering it up. Jimmy Savile was mostly children wasn't it? So again, kind of a different, horrible situation

Joe Paterno never did of the actual acts, no. It was his assistant, Jerry Sandusky. Paterno is guilty of looking the other way, unless you're in State College, PA where they still think he was a saint who could do no wrong.

Ben Affleck just got looped into this. Apparently he groped some MTV VJ back in the day and got called out on it. He apologized on Twitter apparently.
Man, I like this chickens coming home to roost mentality going on right now. I hope everyone gets exposed for this stuff.

(The internet has tried to argue that it wasn't a big deal based on the video, but it was apparently enough of a deal that he apologized) Of course, one inappropriate boob grab is in a whole different category than Weinstein, though still shitty.

I can't stand Rose McGowan's one woman crusade to accuse every single person associated with the scumbag in covering up his actions. Why didn't they speak up sooner...oh, I don't know...the same reason why many of the women didn't? You think he wouldn't kill their careers in a second either? She wants to vilify them but she kept her mouth shut all this time as well until others came out first and now she's just attacking anything that moves. If she doesn't have proof someone was purposely hiding and enabling his behavior then she needs to shut up before someone helps her learn the definition of libel.
On that note, f*** Harvey Weinstein.

Amazingly, one of the people who signed the petition supporting Polanski was Woody Allen.

It's really cringeworthy and vindictive...I mean, I'm sure her hearts in the right place but the approach could use work.

Oh, I'm sure plenty of men were intimidated, coerced, and manipulated into silence, too. But I also damn near guarantee there were a lot of both men and women willingly part of the cover-up. What Weinstein did doesn't happen in a vacuum.
McGowan's approach is, to borrow a quote from last night's Legends of Tomorrow, using a chainsaw for surgery. I really can't blame her for feeling this outraged, but there needs to be some evidence and working with the scumbag doesn't necessarily mean you knew about his actions beyond rumors. And rumors are just that: rumors.
