See, I guess not having any particular exposure to the Golden Lovers hurts my view of it. To me it feels like NJPW has nothing for Omega right now so they are putting him back with his old tag partner. That seems like a step back for him. Further, what is the end game of such a storyline? It seems like it would only be to set them up in a big singles match once they do the inevitable break up. Maybe it could finally be the G1 finals that Omega wanted last year? If they are on opposite sides then I think it would be feasible.
As far as this whole Bullet Club angle goes, why don't they just kick the crap out of Cody and throw him out of the group? Page is his only real ally and he could follow (no big loss). But really how hard is it for these guys to realize that most of the trouble in paradise is due to Cody? That's why I say I would only give this until that ROH show in New Orleans. Omega should just beat Cody there and the rest should kick him out. End of story.

That's why I say I would only give this until that ROH show in New Orleans. Omega should just beat Cody there and the rest should kick him out. End of story. New Japan books everything with a certain kind of cyclical focus on factions right now. It's all iterations and levels to group out the roster. Omega has slowly been turning more and more face through 2017 and by the time WK came around this year, he was working face against Jericho. But they can't just up and turn Bullet Club face, because Bullet Club's a faction never meant to be face. So they're using this story not only to give Omega the face turn he's been leaning in toward, but to seemingly give him his own faction, seemingly with Ibushi and the Bucks. The idea behind it is not to throw him off into tag team purgatory, but nobody in New Japan is an island right now, even if that means you're part of the group that is "Hey we need backup sometimes f*** it let's chill" in Taguchi Japan. If putting him in one of the show's major storylines, that story being the internal strife and splintering off of one of the longest standing and most important factions in the company, is "having nothing" for the guy, then I wonder what short of the IWGP world championship itself is going to satisfy that bar. They are keeping him very present and very important even if he doesn't have a belt on him right now.

For the record, Omega’s biggest run has been as a tag team guy What does "biggest" even mean? He became a superstar and well-known because of his 2017 singles run. Omega became famous and well known during that run. I understand a lot of people tuned in starting with NJPW but he made his name before that.

He may have become an Indy name during that time, but his biggest run is undoubtedly the last year and a half.

They may as well turn Bullet Club face at this point, at least with the international audience. I guess my skepticism about this angle is mainly that I don't know what I'm even supposed to want to see out of it. Should I want Omega to break away from the Bullet Club? Cause I don't. I have zero connection to the Golden Lovers so this reunion is head scratching more than some big cathartic moment. It's fine for a few tag matches leading up to the WM weekend shows, but after that?

Agreed. Falls flat to me. Seems like Omega will be mostly spinning his wheels until his contract expires next year and he jumps to the E.

Or maybe, just maybe, you not knowing anything about Omega’s past factors into your take on the angle? Just a thought.

I'm aware of Omega's history, I just see him more of a singles star than a tag team guy.

Those who don't have AXS, it'll also be airing on New Japan World.

Judging by what's happened at Honor Rising, we maybe getting The Young Bucks vs Golden Lovers

I do have to say this, I do love the work New Japan has done of building up the US title to mean something (or really all of their titles. Including the Junior Tag despite a lack of teams) Kenny did a great job as the first champ, and Jay is doing a good job of flaunting his title. I also think they're doing a great job of building Hangman up.
