Howard Brody gave the best description about the nwa.
"It's like the dinosaur, it had its day under the sun but now it's dead."

Whenever I see a modern day NWA thread I have to click on it to see people act like the NWA is still a thing worth following even though that hasn't been the case for 25 years. Outside of the TX/LA/MS area yea the NWA is dead. But in my area it still has a decent sized following. And I find it kind of neat that a guy I would chat comics with before/after the show is now NWA World champ. What’s his favorite comic book character?

Steve Rogers without the super soldier serum because it reminds Tim that he's old. I'm sorry the joke was there.

It's funny, but if someone's been dead for 25 years, I don't have to convince people of the death.

The arrogance is appalling... Major NWA moments in the past 25 years (1992-2017): - NWA World Heavyweight Title defended at Starrcade 1992 by Masahiro Chono. Great Muta, Barry Windham and Ric Flair won the title during that time period and guys like Rick Rude, Stone Cold and Sting all challenged for it. The title was defended on national television in the United States and also in Japan. - Shane Douglas throwing the belt down is a huge moment and it relates to the NWA and it's World Title. Not the NWA's finest hour but still a major moment for the promotion. - NWA World Heavyweight Title is the first wrestling belt (And maybe the last?) to appear in the UFC having done so in Dan Severn's reign (Which began in 1995, 3 years after the NWA lost relevancy according to you) - In 1997 the NWA invades WWF giving the brand national exposure once more (This is 5 years after it was relevant according to you) - The likes of Sabu, Steve Corino and Shinya Hashimoto win the title between the WWF invasion and joining up with TNA. Admittedly 1997-2002 was a bit of a downfall. - NWA links up with TNA where for 4 years they once again have national notoriety. During that time period AJ Styles, Christian Cage, Jeff Jarrett, Ken Shamrock, Raven, Rhino and Sting all gain NWA World Heavyweight Title reigns. Of course the belt main events many major PPV's and is on national television. I won't even post the calibre of challengers the belt had during this time period. - NWA leaves TNA or vice versa and we get the brilliance of Adam Pearce who becomes a more traditional champion and travels the territories. He defends the belt in Ring Of Honor (Meaning the NWA World Title has been defended in WWE, WCW, TNA, ROH and every other major wrestling company) - Pearce era finishes up and the belt is featured in New Japan Pro Wrestling and tons of other quality independent companies. Yeah mate, you're right. Nothing worth following for 25 years. I don't think Pearce's reign was as great as others, but admittedly with NWA Hollywood doing well at the time and his feud with Cabana, it did make the title mean something again and brought a lot of positive press back to the belt (I actually don't think the belt really did anything in ROH, and Pearce's reigns meant very little till he left ROH, but that's my opinion) what hurt was the choices made AFTER the Shiek fiasco including booking a lot of good talent for the NWA title tourney and deciding to make Kahagas the world champ because he got free travel due to his job Kahagas is the absolute worst NWA World Heavyweight Champion of all time. The only reason he won the belt is because an NWA fan forum with about 15 people who regularly post found out that Damien Wayne was going to win the belt and Bruce Tharpe wanted to "swerve" them. He held the belt for 3-4 months and then lost it when the NJPW deal happened. I like to think that NJPW took one look at Kahagas, laughed and said "Put the belt on someone else" which of course ended up being Rob Conway...

Its a really sad day when Tommy Dreamer is more important than the nwa.

You would at least think they would have Storm defend against a CZW guy if they were going to do an NWA title match at CZW.
Instead of going for the Cena vs. RVD approach, they got the Batista vs. Big Show experience.

Well, he can't be a worse NWA champ than he was a TNA champion, and he's someone that anyone's ever heard of, so it's a start.

Wait, people consider Pearce booking himself to win the belt a ton of times to be "brilliance". Like....I get that the NWA belt wasn't worth squat at the time and there weren't any better options, but....

They are very wrestling oriented and rarely have "garbage" matches anymore. Pretty well rounded company right now. They are making a pretty big effort to get rid of that reputation.
