I'd love to see a Tarantino sci fi film, but Star Trek doesn't seem like remotely the right IP for him to work with. Hell, Star Wars would be better with its seedy underbelly of bounty hunters An original sci fi property would probably be best It could work. Star Trek has always tended to focus on the Federation being a utopia threatened by races from outside its borders or by political corruption, while only rarely delving into the more seedy side of things - the episode of TNG where Picard goes undercover on a smuggling ship or almost any Quark-heavy DS9 episode, for example. There's potential there, but I think the real problem would be the fanbase. The JJ films and Discovery has shown that a good portion of the fanbase only want the philosophical utopia presented for the previous 40+ years. I dunno. I'm kinda with the majority on that one. Every other sci-fi franchise is trying to be this "grey, grimey gut punch" thing, like....why CAN'T we have some optimism in sci-fi again?

I agree there needs to be more optimistic sci-fi, but I think Star Trek's well ran dry a long time ago. After 700+ hours of TV shows and movies you can only tell so many stories before you start recycling.

Star Trek: Now with white people saying racial slurs way more enthusiastically than they should be comfortable with!

I have to admit, a '60s throwback Star Trek would actually be a cool route to take.

Could be great. Tarantino gets the legacy and has written entertaining scripts. He can reign it in when it matters, would love to see the ST universe have that credibility.

Well sence I really don't care for Star Trek much, and love a good chunck of Tarantino's work, screw it, let him do this. I wanna see the batshit insanity a Tarantino Star Trek film will look like! Next, let's have Micheal Bay direct a Star Wars movie Totally NSFW

Even if he were, the Friday the 13th film rights are in limbo due to a lawsuit brought by Victor Miller who wrote the script for the original film.

I know he's kept his distance so that Chris Pine can really get the spotlight as Jim Kirk, but damnit Shatner needs to show up in one of these movies sometime. Him, Nichelle, Walter, and George are all that's left of the original cast.

Confirming that it will be awful Having recently rewatched TOS relatively objectively, while I can honestly say I prefer almost all the original cast (I can't choose either Kelley or Urban over each other), I just can't hold anything in TOS above the Kelvin movies. Granted, a lot of it has to do with the way television writing and acting has evolved since the '60s, but I get the same feeling I get when I go back and rewatch old Thundercats and Transformers episodes and realise none of it aged as well as I remembered.

Personally, I'd put like any Star Trek above Into Darkness... and I have seen a few episodes of The Original Series recently...as well as Voyager and Enterprise...

Beyond was a fun movie, at least.
Into Darkness was the worst of the Kelvin universe movies, but I'd take it over TMP, Final Frontier, or the TNG movies that weren't First Contact.

I wouldn't personally. Things like literally making the Federation rotten from the top down, the magic tribble blood that makes death literally impossible now in Star Trek, doing beats from one of the most loved Star Trek movies badly, all bundled up in 9/11 trutherism. Make it near unwatchable to me. edit: Granted most of my problems aren't really on the cast... but my original post was meant to be a joke
