Beyond was a fun movie, at least. Into Darkness was the worst of the Kelvin universe movies, but I'd take it over TMP, Final Frontier, or the TNG movies that weren't First Contact. Aside from the OTT action beats, Beyond was closest in tone to TOS. Into Darkness really suffered from mirroring Wrath of Khan's major beats, but I wouldn't have said it was an outright bad movie.

I wouldn't personally. Things like literally making the Federation rotten from the top down, the magic tribble blood that makes death literally impossible now in Star Trek, doing beats from one of the most loved Star Trek movies badly, all bundled up in 9/11 trutherism. Make it near unwatchable to me. edit: Granted most of my problems aren't really on the cast... but my original post was meant to be a joke I've said before, When Nemesis is the better "Wrath Of Kahn" knock off, Then you f***ed up And if this Tarantino movie is set in the Kelvin universe then I'm out.

Confirming that it will be awful Having recently rewatched TOS relatively objectively, while I can honestly say I prefer almost all the original cast (I can't choose either Kelley or Urban over each other), I just can't hold anything in TOS above the Kelvin movies. Granted, a lot of it has to do with the way television writing and acting has evolved since the '60s, but I get the same feeling I get when I go back and rewatch old Thundercats and Transformers episodes and realise none of it aged as well as I remembered. Urban's just about the only one who doesn't come off as doing a bad impression of the original, which makes him the only one who's actually believeable as the younger version. I'd possibly throw Zoe Saldana in as equal or better, but that's mainly because they actually give her stuff to do, unlike Nichelle.

His portrayal of McCoy is less stubborn and outspoken than Kelley's, so you can believe that as his McCoy aged and grew closer to Kirk and Spock he became the "give no f***s" old Southern doc who would openly give his captain and first officer shit if he didn't agree with them. Saldana has more to do, but I don't find her Uhura even half as likeable as Nicholls'.

And here I was hoping that the update to this would be announcing the idea is cancelled.

this sounds like a terrible idea all over.
Unless the go for like SS Tarantino and not the Enterprise... then maybe it would work but I can't help but feel his version of Kirk and Co. would be awful.

Not a fan. QT is one of my favorite directors but not needed for a ST film. Regardless though, I really hope we can push past TOS-Next Gen era. I know the new CBS shows are doing so now but I'm just saying, the future of the universe will be 100% more interesting to me no matter the medium.

Also unless CBS and Viacom resolve their respective rights to the franchise, the QT movie will either be in the Kelvin timeline or otherwise not connected to the Prime timeline at all.

I'd rather see a batshit crazy R-rated James Bond set in the 60s that Quentin said he wanted to do.

If nothing else, I think DiCaprio would make a great foul-mouthed Kirk.

so how many times are they going to call Uhura the n-word? "When you pulled up to my house, did you see a sign outside that said, "Dead Klingon Storage?" No, you didn't. And do you know why you didn't see it? Because it's not f***ing there. Because storing dead Klingons ain't my f***ing business!"

I'm trying to imagine this project turning out good in any way, and I'm just coming up with nothing. And I generally like Tarantino movies.
