What if Luke becomes one with the Force or something like that? Hamill's already confirmed for Episode IX, so yeah, Luke became one with the Force and will be back as a ghost. And you know what? I want a scene where Luke and Anakin confront Kylo.

.... I just want to say that about 4 times my brain said "Luke looks like Chuck Norris in these flashback segments and final fight" I kept thinking he looked like Zach Galifianakis.

Someone remind me of Snoke's ship was completely wiped out or if only half of it was actually destroyed. Sure, it wasn't going to fly anywhere after that collision, but was there a rush to get off? IIRC maybe at most 1/5-1/4 of the dorito was sliced off by the lightspeed jump, and it was never conclusively shown exploding, so I'm inclined to believe it wasn't completely destroyed. The scale of his flagship is supposedly such that it's basically the width of Rhode Island so I wouldn't put it past that it could survive that. If they wanted us to interpret it as being completely toast, the slice wouldn't have been off to the side as much as it was. May have been mentioned earlier in the thread, but hearing Ackbar was killed off due to his voice actor passing away. Feel like Nien Numb was probably killed off also, don't remember seeing him through to the end like the others.

{Spoiler}5. BB-8. Ok, I hear this fallacy-ridden argument that Rey is a Mary Sue all the time. So completely false. But, if we’re going to make that statement incorrectly defined and stapled to Rey... not completely false and/or incorrectly stapled to Rey. it is a perfectly justifiable and aptly applied criticism of her character in The Force Awakens, especially in light of The Last Jedi. the argument for her being overly powerful/a "Mary Sue": - she has an unbelievable mastery of the Force despite no apparent training as demonstrated by her ability to the mind trick to James Bond - she is the best fighter as demonstrated by her beating Kylo Ren (after hearing the phrase "the Force") - she is the best pilot as demonstrated by her flying the Millennium Falcon through a down Star Destroyer while being attacked by Tie Fighters, and having to tell Han how to fly his own damn ship - she is the best mechanic as demonstrated by her telling Han how to fix his own damn ship - she is a master of languages as demonstrated by her being able to speak droid, Wookie, and ever other language uttered in the galaxy the counter argument for her being overly powerful: - we don't know her backstory. she might have had training or Luke might be her father. just wait and see! well, we waited, and we saw. her mysterious backstory? she had no Jedi training, a couple of drunks from Jakku sold her and took off. so she's on par with Kylo Ren when it comes to fighting and the Force just cause. she can speak droid, Wookie, etc. just cause. she can pilot the Millennium Falcon through a downed Star Destroyer just cause (the argument she can do it because she pilots the giant popsicle makes about as much sense as saying if you can drive a motorcycle you can fly a jet). she is overly powerful and poorly developed in The Force Awakens (but they greatly improved on it this one)

I'll concede that I was one of the 'maybe backstory' people; but eh, her being good at all that shit never bothered me in the first place.
If anything, I like that it shows that anyone can be Force sensitive, even random street rats.

Some guy on Squared Circle posted a thread yesterday with the title "Breaking News: Elias suspended 30 days for wellness violation" and when you clicked on it and gave away all the major surprises from this movie. So it kind of ruined any shock I had seeing it tonight.

I really hope at least a few months passes between the Last Jedi and episode IX, because it’s seriously been less than ten days since the beginning of the Force Awakens hasn’t it?

The more I think about it, a lot of things were straight up teases.
Just so many things were happening that never got full resolution or were outright failures, whether that means characters didn't get done what they set out to do or the writing was a bait and switch.
I want to explain the bait and switches first;
So Laura Dern's character is shown to be somewhat incompetent at least in terms of getting just about everyone killed. Poe calls her out numerous times. I just assumed she was the culprit behind the tracer on the ship and was a secret agent for the First Order. That would make sense why she wanted to stay behind. Instead, she *is* a good guy who still gets almost everyone killed and Poe was misguided in his anger. So if that's the case, why not just go through with what happened anyways by ramming the major ship into the Star Destroyers? Would've saved lots of lives. Again, I know direct logic in movies isn't always the case, but Dern's character made very little sense.
Rey experiencing the temptation of the dark side seemed silly too. If anything, I would have had her be the sacrifice to save the rebellion by surrendering to Ren aligning together. I don't know,seems like such a waste to go down that path only to say 'nah' like she did before since it isn't happening in the next movie. I guess the only thing left is Ren's redemption, but it would've been nice to see it happen to both. But whatever.
So yeah...plenty of things set up that never get accomplished;
Getting the guy with the red lapel pin...good thing he just happened to be in the casino at that very time wearing that very thing.
Oh don't worry we'll get this other guy, despite the orange thing saying you specifically needed the other guy. I actually thought that would've been a clever set up to meet Benito by chance in that situation and find out it was actually his lapel pin that got stolen. BTW, I absolutely f***ing hated that entire casino scene...that may be my least favorite Star Wars moment ever.
Shutting down the tracking beam, didn't happen.
Poe being wrong as I pointed out before.
Rey only completing one lesson from what I remember. I guess she is following Luke's footsteps.
Finn almost becoming a martyr almost out of nowhere. Okay, this literally was a WTF if I ever saw one. And had he done so, I'm guessing he would've wiped out all the top names in the First Order in one fell swoop. But Rose(?) decided to save him for love or something. Meanwhile many more people are going to die.
Also, not really a thing but Kylo seemed to know where Luke was since he was apparently on the same plant as the temple. Why not track him down there?
Not that I had high expectations but man what a miserable experience. No real growth overall. I really only saw this movie since my friend did and it was the experience of watching with him, but it's good to know they have moved away from anything you are going to be nostalgic about. Really, the only thing that brought me back was the chance to see the characters I grew up caring about. But evil is always there, so remember... even if you win, you will eventually lose and by lose...you lose your life.
Maybe they can bring Lando back for the 'ultimate sacrifice' in the next movie. Come on, Disney...come kill off some more.

I enjoyed it. I can see why some may not and why this may be the jumping off point for some. And, you know what? That's perfectly OK. It's clear this is Disney's franchise now and they're going with what they feel is right.
In hindsight, this film very much hurts my opinion of Episode 7 quite a bit. JJ was so obsessed with the "mystery box" aspects of his movie, that I think he forgot to actually tell Rian Johnson about it. Because RJ just said "f*** the mystery box!" and went in a completely different direction. Including disposing of said boxes one-by-one over the course of the movie's runtime. I'm also much more concerned that JJ will get scared and play it safe again instead of doing what he should do, and going full speed ahead with whatever new vision there is. I'm praying that he'll throw the "mystery box" hogwash off a cliff after this. He won't. He can't tell any other story outside of that but, a man can dream, no? You can check out "Film Critic Hulk" to pretty much get my views on JJ. Abrams, but, needless to say, I'm not a huge fan. It's also clear now that this is not even remotely as planned out as the people at Lucasfilm would have us believe. I don't buy that even for a millisecond. Especially now. You can't tell me it was the intent to build Snoke up as this mysterious "Wizard of Oz" shadowy figure, only for him to be cut right down the middle like Frieza after his disk attack backfired. You just can't. I'm not an idiot.
Kylo killing Snoke with Anakin's lightsaber. After all that speculation, Steele Saunders of Steele Wars ended up being absolutely correct: "Your Snoke Theory Sucks!" I genuinely yelled out "HOLY SHIT!" at the top of my lungs when that happened. I never yell in a theater for anything at all. That's one I'm still trying to process though, I'd much prefer Kylo being the main villain because he's infinitely more compelling than Snoke. A guy whom, even though I did enjoy him in this movie, was a pantomime villain. There's only so far that can go in this day and age. A brutal way to go out, though. The fight with his guards however, might easily be one of my favorites in the saga. Beautifully shot and choreographed. I loved the "Madam Butterfly" look to the throne room.
Rey being the daughter of two asshole junkers. While that does raise some serious questions about her abilities, I'm happy with it. Anyone who's talked to me about Star Wars knows I was BEGGING for her not to be a Skywalker. Not everyone has to be related to someone or from some special background. That part of the "Monomyth" must die it's long overdue death in storytelling in 2017. It was great at first but, now, it just starts to feel like some weird fictional eugenics. "But Human, it's the Skywalker saga!" they'd say. Yeah, and we have said Skywalker. It's the unstable big-nosed c*** in all black over there. Who, I must say, was beyond brilliant yet again. Adam Driver might be too good for Star Wars but, I'm thankful for him anyway.
Luke Skywalker dying. Well, did he? I might just be in denial but, we saw that Yoda could summon lightning and hit Luke with his cane so, is he dead? Perhaps there's more to being "more powerful than you can possibly imagine" than we initially thought. That's probably the only thing that worries me coming out of this. I hope there are rules to what exactly "force ghosts" can do. Otherwise, we'll have multiple thousand "Gandalf the Whites" running around. That'll drive me nuts. We're in the post-"A Song of Ice and Fire" world, Hollywood, death means death. Any resurrections must result in a radically different character and rulebook.
It's going to take another viewing to get a better idea of my thoughts on the other stories but, they were pretty inoffensive in the grand scheme of things. It's clear the emat of the story was between the force wielders. Oscar Issac is another guy who might be a little too good for the franchise as well.
Just some stream of consciousness thoughts after just getting out of the theater.

The last of the Resistance are about to fall and suddenly Luke, Anakin, Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon appear to wipe the floor with the First Order. A total jump the shark moment.
