Jonah Rock is dope. I had no idea he was on WWE’s radar.

There have actually been some movements I did not expect to close out the year.
Here's what I'm gonna do: before the end of the year, in the next few weeks, I'm gonna redo the first post with the newer information about roster size, new signees, new hirings and maybe a post with some thoughts. Which, spoiler alert, I've changed my view of WWE's seemingly greedy hiring policies.

I did it! I updated the main post for, most likely, the last time in 2018. Has this year seemed really long to anyone else?
Anyway... I did my best to include and reflect the emergence of the NXT UK brand. If I made a mistake with the numbers, or if anyone has some comments, do let me know.
Here are the final numbers though. - 30 hires in 2018. (46, if you include the NXT UK roster.) - 17 releases in 2018 - There are 116 wrestlers on the main roster. 112 as part of NXT/the Performance Center. That adds up to 228 wrestlers currently signed to WWE.
Here's what I didn't expect to be typing after a year of maintaining this thread: I don't think WWE is hiring too many people. I think you could conceivably argue that they could have actually made more hires. Think about it. We get a few callups after Wrestlemania and then, sometimes, we got another batch later in the year. We don't often get NXT's best (Lars and EC3 and Lacey Evans as opposed to fan favorites) and we have several developmental brands now. You could get hired to appear on NXT UK, then NXT, then 205, then you might move up to one of the two brands. It's a slow process.
It's made slower by the fact of how WWE doesn't utilize its roster. They'll keep the likes of Slater, Ryder, Tamina, Primo and Epico around without any sort of plan for how to use them. On the other hand, newer callups like No Way Jose and Mojo Rawley and Tye Dillinger already feel as aimless as the veterans who have been around for a decade or close to it. The feeling that WWE signs too many people, that's backed up by the numbers, but it's amplified because WWE doesn't do anything with so many of the talents they already have. Even a hot prospect like Almas is floundering and reportedly unhappy.
As I've complained time and time again, the real problem is that this is a company that books the same 40 people in the same ways and it's actually kind of demoralizing as a viewer if you take the time to think about it.

So I would like to keep this thread going in the new year. I'll update the OP, for a new year, hopefully before next week.

Trevor Lee and WALTER became official since I last checked in.
Shane Strickland tweeted today that he’s officially a free agent, and I would think he ends up in WWE over AEW, ROH or New Japan.
Haven’t heard anything new on ACH or Jonah Rock signings.

3.0 have finally signed after doing a ton of squashes over the past few years. If anyone knows 3.0 from their CHIKARA Days you know how good these guys are. Both extremely charismatic, both extremely fun, and two tag team specialists. They should have absolutely no trouble getting over, especially Matthews if they let him do the Boston Crab spots.

Along with Draganov, KLR, Primate and others mentioned in another thread. Nice. Even though she only had one match, she was the one who stood out the most in the first MYC. Might have to start watching NXTUK a bit more now.

Hey, guys. Thanks for keeping this thread updated.
I finally had a chance to update the main post today. So far this year, there have been 19 reported signings and 3 releases to the roster of superstars. There are a total of at least 247 superstars signed to WWE. Much of that is developmental and NXT.
I'll hopefully do the MOTY thread in a few more days.
