Really the only thing it does continuity wise that can't just be done by a throwaway line or two is humanise Tony again after he spent the whole of Civil War being an asshat. I thought Tony got better towards the end of the movie, but overall I felt like he was a complete dickwad during the whole movie. "What??? There's this kid who can benchpress a bus over his head, anticipate danger before it happens, and fast enough to dodge gunfire at point black range? Pft, whatever, let my doofus idiot know nothing driver/body guard/whatever the hell Happy is in this continuity handle it. I've got so many better things to do, like...and...um...yeah, I'm just going to be over there." I get it, he's a billionaire genius super hero, but at least get another super hero to mentor Spidey, or a SHIELD agent or something! Not friggin' Happy! I figure it was sort of a "movie within a movie" happening. Tony was trying to get Happy back in the game after he nearly got killed by the Mandarin, but clearly he's not up to the task anymore. Brushing off Spidey, nearly getting the plane swiped by the Vulture...Happy is totally off his game but Tony still wants to give him a chance...probably even moreso after the events of Civil War destroyed the Avengers.

It worked out in the cartoon fairly well. Also helped that Clark Gregg voiced Coulson in the cartoon instead of a soundalike. Incidentally, the cartoon Coulson disappeared from the show once Agents of SHIELD started up.

I've seen pretty much every MCU film in full so far (The Dark World being the exception), I can understand both sides of the discussion. Where my enjoyment has mainly come from these films is the ones featuring characters I've known very little of going in like Guardians, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and Black Panther. I have my own catagorical structure where to fit the films into based on how I viewed them after watching
Awesome - Avengers, Guardians 1, Iron Man, Black Panther, all 3 CapAM films, Doctor Strange
Good, not great - Thor, Ragnarok, Ant-Man, Age of Ultron, Guardians 2
OK - Iron Man 2, Spider-Man Homecoming, Incredible Hulk
Pass - The Dark World
Coversely I'm not much of a fan of the Marvel TV output, I enjoyed both seasons of Agent Carter and Daredevil, finally gave up on Agents 3 episodes into the current season having watched every episode up to then, didn't finish season 1 of Jessica Jones and don't plan on watching season 2, never started Iron Fist, Luke Cage or Punisher but enjoyed Defenders and absolutely detested Inhumans
On the flip side, the DC version has disappointed me, hated Man of Steel, thought Justice League was good, not great, Dawn of Justice was ok but loved Wonder Woman while TV wise I love The Flash, Arrow and Legends but didn't get past episode 2 of Supergirl (only watched two eps since during the crossover weeks) and not started Black Lightning as yet
And while we are on the subject of polarising franchises, I'm loving the current Star Wars movie revival under Disney though Solo may be the film that could turn things until Episode 9 comes out next year

I did have a thought about where issues come in with the "cinematic universe" structure before, and it kind of got hammered home a bit more with Black Panther.
Said it the Panther thread that, to me, it's one of the better Marvel films; I appreciate the ones that feel a bit more ambitious, and this one definitely had that feeling. It had flaws (choppy editing, limited resources keeping where they could film a bit narrow), but it set out to do some big things and did them solidly, especially in terms of aesthetics and working with the knowledge of the cultural impact it could bring.
On the flip side, it kind of felt like two movies put together into one: the first being a sort of globetrotting James Bond-esque action story in which T'Challa and his crew try to bring down an arms dealer and simultaneously preserve the secrecy of Wakanda, while the second film was the story of Killmonger's attempt to take the throne and the internal divisions within Wakandan society leading to an internal war, but results in the nation coming around to revealing its resources and tech to the world. This leads to a film where one villain gets cut off pretty early, and then there's a huge dramatic battle at the end that could have had a lot more emotional impact if we had spent a full movie being introduced to the characters and the societal structure that are then torn apart in the internal struggle.
Both stories had good villains and distinct tones, and it feels like it would've been nice for them to be spaced out into two flicks; however, kind of like with Guardians 2 the pressure of getting to Infinity War meant that one of the overriding considerations the writers had to make was "Ok, we have to get to the point where Earth has access to more vibranium to fight Thanos with, so if we want to tell both of these stories we need them in one movie." That kind of sucks; they did a really good job given those circumstances, but I wish that didn't have to be such a key consideration.
It's a small complaint in the grand scheme of things, but the larger structure sometimes takes films in this series that I think could be legitimately great and forces them to compromise on certain things and bump themselves down to the level of "good". The fact Marvel can keep pulling off "good" when no other studio can even handle "passable" with a better than 50% success rate with these cinematic universes remains impressive, but yeah, it does shape my opinion to a degree.

So going into Infinity War, these are my personal favorite character rankings
1) Steve Rogers: A good example of how to make a compelling "boy scout" hero. 2) T'Challa: He's gentle and compassionate, but he's not a pushover either. 3) Rocket: Funny, adorable, and angst ridden without it feeling overwhelming. 4) Tony Stark: He tries, ok? He screws up a lot, sure, but he has my sympathy more often than not. 5) Hulk: He was probably my favorite part of Ragnarok. 6) Shuri: She's going to be big money for Marvel going forward, if they're smart. 7) Peter Parker: Tom Holland is probably my favorite Spider-Man to date. 8) Star Lord: His arc in Guardians 2 was heartbreaking. 9) The Russo Brothers' Black Widow: She's badass. And I don't like Joss Whedon's Widow. 10) Drax: Batista is hilarious in this role.
Villains: 1) Erik Killmonger 2) Loki 3) Alexander Pierce 4) Hela 5) Adrian Toomes
So far as Netflix:
1) Luke Cage 2) Jessica Jones 3) Misty Knight 4) Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes 5) Matt Murdock

All I want from the MCU is another Blade movie.
But then again they'll probably make that as bland as most of the MCU as well
Blade 1 & 2 are easily 2 of the better Marvel movies (Trinity was poor though)

Just watched Ragnarok and the attempts at comedy just ruined this movie for me. The parts were the movie was more serious were great and if that tone had been kept for the rest of the movie, this would have been up near the top of the MCU movies. Completely hated Valkyrie and hope she never appears again.
