Disney will never buy WWE. I could totally see it happening at some point in the future after Vince is gone.

I can see Disney buying WWE because they have conquered pretty much everything else.
Live sports is pretty much the last thing on their bucket list...untill they wanna start colonizing the moon.

I mean, if they want a gigantic PR nightmare from the press digging through WWE's history and finding the skeletons and then them backing out of the deal when all those skeletons are out of the closet for all to see and Disney stock drops rapidly from it, sure, why not?

Can we stop with this bizarre idea that Disney is going to make everything family friendly? There's been some really R-Rated stuff released from Disney subsidiaries.

On the bright side, maybe Disney will FINALLY put the Simpsons out of its misery. Are you kidding? That show will be on until it hits the public domain. Which thanks to Disney's lawyers will be in 400 years.

Will never happen. And Disney already tried the sport thing. They're much more likely to start eyeing Hasbro.

I've said it before, but I have mixed feelings about Disney's acquisition of so many IPs. Then again, Fox was going to sell them, and it's not like Comcast buying it would have been any better.

Yea, Disney is not buying WWE
If it ever happens it is way down on their list of things to acquire
I do agree with Madison that I think Hasbro is potentially next

Disney already has a deal with Lego (at least, Lego makes sets based off of their IPs), they dont want to jeopardize that by trying to acquire a toy company (and lets be honest, outside of Transformers and MLP, does Hasbro really have any succesful franchises at the moment?).

That........is a fair point. Companies don't really care to do business with a company that buys (and essentially becomes) a competitor. So that Lego/Disney deal probably dies pretty quick if Disney grabs Hasbro. And likewise, there's a good chance that other folks/licenses who may deal with Hasbro would end their business if Disney grabbed them. At best, I would think Disney could start granting/dealing Hasbro a lot more licenses for various things that expire at other companies (as was the case with the Disney Princess line a few years back, which Mattel had and IIRC either bungled or let expire) and build them up as a preferred partner that way.

I still get the DVDs to get the uncensored and extended versions. Much better on DVD than what makes TV. Which, funnily enough, also make a lot of money. Again, if Disney hate money and getting money off of rival TV networks, they'll change things. They don't so they won't. Then again, the InVasion would have been money....but WWE had to prove their way is superior.

Then again, the InVasion would have been money....but WWE had to prove their way is superior. Ok, let’s compare how Disney dealt with the acquisition of Lucasfilm to WWE buying WCW. Disney: Right from the get go, they announced a new trilogy of films along with various side projects. They announced a changing of the main canon, they announced Star Wars Rebels, they announced a new Indiana Jones movie, they signed a deal with EA to make the games (which is a different discussion for another day how well that went), they loaned the license of various Lucasarts adventure games to Double Fine to remake said games. Last year they announced Star Wars Clone Wars was coming back. Phineas and Ferb did a crossover. New Star Wars attractions were announced and are opening this year. And even with the stuff that wasn’t so hot, they’re making BANK across the board. WWE: Buried all of the main talent, had Vince bring in and end the nWo, brought in others and made them look like crap and spent a decade making the whole brand out to be the most toxic thing in wrestling history. Then when they DID release DVDs, they didn’t sell well because, again, they spent a decade making the brand out to be crap. WWE got Goldberg right over a DECADE after bringing him in first time. WWE brought an IP, a major IP that still had legs even with no network wanting it, and bungled it from the off. I've said it before, but I have mixed feelings about Disney's acquisition of so many IPs. Then again, Fox was going to sell them, and it's not like Comcast buying it would have been any better. That’s something I’m annoyed isn’t brought up as much. I can really understand the concern with Disney getting a lot of IPs and it is concerning but in this case, FOX wanted to sell and they wanted to sell to someone they worked with rather than Comcast who’ve done the absolute basics with all the NBC Universal stuff they have. This isn’t Marvel where Disney brought them because they couldn’t make a IP for boys besides Phineas and Ferb. Disney already has a deal with Lego (at least, Lego makes sets based off of their IPs), they dont want to jeopardize that by trying to acquire a toy company (and lets be honest, outside of Transformers and MLP, does Hasbro really have any succesful franchises at the moment?). Yeah, Disney basically only buys companies they’ve worked with. Lucasfilm had Disney rides for over a decade before Disney brought them, Pixar’s worked with Disney since their inception and Eisner was ready to get rid before he left and Iger quickly repaired ties and brought them and FOX was working with Disney to make an Avatar park. And if you’re willing to work with FOX on Avatar, then...well, you’ve earned their trust.

Disney will never buy WWE. I could totally see it happening at some point in the future after Vince is gone. At the very least I could see them realistically float an offer. And their primary interest would be the merchandising machine, not the tv wrestling product itself.

Disney don't need WWE.
They've already got Batista.

Just saying... sometimes ego does get in the way of even successful business. Yes, but the only case you’ve put forward for that is of a company that is run by a crazy egomaniac who flinches at the sight of anyone trying to get a piece of his pie and wants everything his way. Disney aren’t a company that settles on their laurels, they go from wanting to make money to wanting to make MORE money. WWE has the money already so they think why even try?

And their primary interest would be the merchandising machine, not the tv wrestling product itself. As good as WWE's merchandising machine is by wrestling standards, it's small dice compared to the other parts of Disney's portfolio. There's not enough money to be made from wrestling for them to bother with. WWE's most profitable year ever was 1999, and they made $68 million. If Disney release a movie and it only makes $68 million profit, it's considered one step shy of a disaster. Their theme parks and toy lines make more than that in a year, and WWE hasn't been close to being that profitable in over a decade in any case.
