I find it funny that people are making such a big deal out of the stairs when honestly you could probably cut that part from the movie entirely and miss nothing. While we're on that subject... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Seriously what is up with that part where he no-sells being hit by a car? What was the point of that? {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}The car was slowing down as it hit him. Strong enough to send him flying, but not strong enough to shatter his bones. That's not how physics or bones work.

You mean to tell me those stairs aren't in Gotham at all?

Eh to be fair he was most likely running on adrenaline too. {Spoiler}Kind of leads credence to the theory that perhaps the entire show was in his head. No human being could realistically pop up like that after being mowed down by a speeding car. But this is a comic book film and we need to suspend our disbelief when it comes to logic.

Something I’ve been meaning to ask since I saw this but it keeps falling out of my head: did anyone noticed Joaquin Phoenixs one shoulder being all bent out of shape? is that natural or was he just bending in ways whenever he wasn’t wearing a shirt to make it seem so?
[EDIT] I guess that was from a scene when he got hit by a car? I don’t even remember that part.

and just came back from seeing it ..... {Spoiler}this is NOT the happy go lucky movie i was lead to believe it was!!! it'a NOT perfect but that's because of all the background stuff, suddenly turning up at wayne manor and even the wayne murders were slightly uninspiring but those were NOT the point. it was the absolute destruction of this guys life from his mothers betrayal to his workfellows stupidity in giving him that gun, and even up to Arthur's wobbly descent to darkness ..... it didn't feel like it had as much gravitas as the events should have, but that could be down to the characters tenuous grip on reality! but i was gripped by it throughout knowing full well what the consequences would be. but this is all Joaquin Phoenix, absolutely mesmorising, all sinuous and derangement that's none of his fault ..... he's just trying to deal with it the best he can ..... to the mirroring of The King Of Comedy right down to me saying how much DeNero looked like Jerry Lee Lewis in one scene! but as dark and desperate this was, the biggest laugh i got was when he finally went on the show ..... you know which part but i was almost in TEARS when he found out the truth about himself! i see this as almost an unnoficial PREQUEL to The Dark Knight, and it's little touches to previous Batman movies. the violence isn't that bad, sure it's shocking and sudden and it's kept to an almost minimum (compare the first incident in the subway to the studio and see Arthur's chance in style, from completely emptying the weapon into that idiot as he tries to escape to when he shot Murry Franklin and doesn't even know if to shoot him again for a third time) Phoenix isn't let loose in this, he is still performing in a quite compressed way, not letting completely go even at the end but that depth of intensity of a downtrodden unbalanced person is incredible! a oscar nomination is the LEAST that he deserves from this amazing performance! not a complicated movie by any means, but it's cinematography sound and editing are exemplary, the soundtrack really does empasise Arthur's soul mood to a tee! NINE OUT OF TEN very close to a ten

as for delusions .....
the only time he had such "daydreams" was the first time we got to see him and penny watching the talk show, Arthur is imagining himself on it nothing else made me think it was all in his mind

as for delusions ..... the only time he had such "daydreams" was the first time we got to see him and penny watching the talk show, Arthur is imagining himself on it nothing else made me think it was all in his mind {Spoiler}There are certain times where the aspect of it being in his mind is plausible. For example, after watching it three times, the ending where he's handcuffed in the backseat with the ambulance ramming the police unit that he's in. It's quite possible that he died right there since the whiplash effect, along with him being cuffed and not secured with a seatbelt would've killed him. Thus resulting in the whole possibility that the entire end is him experiencing his dying moments to a cheering mob. {Spoiler}No way he would've been able to kill his mom without a nurse rushing in once her heart monitor started to go off. That could've potentially been in his head too. Todd Phillips did say the film is completely open to interpretation and I can see what he's talking about. You could literally watch this film and form your own conclusion given how it was presented.

Yeah that makes sense. Pretty low budget and not a ton spent on advertising or merchandise. (None on the merchandise really)

Some on Twitter were crowing about it doing so without a ton of CGI and it's like "well yeah, it's Taxi Driver only Bickle wears clown makeup, no real need for much FX there."

Yeah, like, of course it isn't overflowing with CGI. Lemme know when you're capable of making a good-looking Green Lantern movie without it.

Lol.. This joker film, amidst all the controversy and amidst all the success has been a pretty appropriate ride for the source character.

It's still weird to me that such a mediocre movie has been so polarizing either way. Perfect storm I guess.

All in all it’s a decent “what-if” fanfiction-style Batman film with a good lead performance. I didn’t think it was god-tier or a grand masterpiece but I don’t consider it to be this culturally destructive thing either.

Really I kind of have the exact same opinion of Joker I expected to have - it's pretty good, has virtually nothing to do with Batman, has some major logical and scripting faults but the acting and directing are good enough I can kind of overlook it, feel like if I saw it again I'd be a lot harsher on it.

Its pretty impressive that it’s creeping up on a billion with no China input whatsoever.
My favorite thing people are saying now is that it ‘doesn’t count’ as a comic book movie because this that and the other. Enooooough.
