As the title states, what movies did you think were going to suck but then once you saw them turned out to be good?
For me, the first one that comes to mind is "The Peanuts Movie." As someone who is a lifelong fan of the franchise, the thought of a CGI-animated movie seemed like an insult. Then I saw it and it became my favorite CGI film not done by Pixar.

The Ringer, the trailers made it look horrible. Then a few friends told me to Netflix it. Was way funnier than I expected.
Johnny Neumonic,or however you spell it. I had read the Gibson short story it was based on and have never really cared for Keanu. But went opening night and got a decent film.

The Equalizer is on par with John Wick and leagues ahead of Taken. Hoping to see Part 2 this week sometime.

I thought Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was just going to be a cheesy fantasy flick like that Hugh Jackman Van Helsing movie. Turns out, it's freaking brilliant. It's more Evil Dead than Van Helsing, and Jeremy Renner is damn hilarious in it.

Recently? Mother. Heard so much bad shit about it I wasn't expecting much but found myself liking it a lot.
Also didn't have high expectations for Cloverfield Lane but liked it a lot.

Good Time was way more intense and engaging than I thought it was gonna be. Pattinson can bring it with the right script.

Recently, it was Solo. I didn't have high expectations for it, but damn, I had fun during it.

The first of the new Planet of the Apes trilogy I thought would be awful. Instead, it's one of the most solid franchises ever.
The first Kings Men and Baby Drive I both thought would be good, but was really surprised by just how much I enjoyed them.

The new Apes trilogy more or less snuck up on me by how good it was. Heck, War For The Planet was one of my favorite films last year.

Step Brothers. I went to see it on a first date, with very little expectations. Holy cow I was dying laughing.

Pacific Rim. I thought it was going to be an hour and a half of expedition and then a half hour of giant robots kicking ass and that's it. That movie gets going quick and hardly lets off the gas. I ended up really enjoying it. Still need to see Uprising.
Mortal Kombat. For being limited to a PG-13 movie in the 90s, Mortal Kombat is not half bad for what they had to work with. Annihilation on the other hand.... eww.

Batman Begins. I didn't even know it existed until my sister bought it on DVD, and I didn't know anything about Christopher Nolan, so after Batman & Robin my hopes were pretty low. It remains one of my three favourite superhero movies.

Hobo With a Shotgun.
I actually didnt like the original fake trailer that inspired the full length movie to later be made.
So when I gave the film a try, I was overwhelmed by how good it was. It is a cinematic masterpiece of exploitation film.

I may have to go with Half-Baked on this one. I remember kind of wanting to watch it when I saw TV spots, but then I read that critics hated it. Then I heard from people around me that it was a funny movie, so a classmate let me borrow it, and I laughed so hard.

Most recently it’s been Solo, a Spanish film called The Bar, and Uzamasa Limelight.

It is a cinematic masterpiece of exploitation film. Well Rutger Hauer is awesome. Tropic Thunder looked bad on paper, but was actually a fun time because of the right people to make the material work.
