411mania.com/wrestling/wwe-evolution-ticket-sale-update/– Dave Meltzer reported on ticket sales for WWE’s upcoming all-women event, Evolution, in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. According to Meltzer, ticket sales haven’t flopped for the event, but they are said to be going weaker than expected. “They’ve sold 7,000. About 2,400 of them went to scalpers. I wouldn’t call it bad. The building will probably end up full when all is said and done, but it’s not nearly as hot a ticket as I expected it to be and the secondary market is not strong at all. It’s much lower than most pay-per-views. I thought it would be because of a heavy push. I thought it would be bigger and in fact, that’s not the case. It’s not a hot ticket at all. It’s not a flop, but it’s definitely weaker than probably any WWE pay-per-view in a long time.”

Meltzer needs to stop talking about women.

7000 isn't even bad, the arena is set up for 11,000 right? If they get past 9000 they'll be happy and even at the current level you won't even notice on TV.

f*** off Meltz. Tell me the sales and the gate when the show is over. Don't add fuel to the 'women can't draw' fire that already exists.

If we are speculating on reasons why this show might be underperforming, can we talk about how many big shows they are running in the NYC metro area this year alone? Off memory, I can count Raw 25 and Summerslam weekend at Barclays (plus a few hundred who paid way too much to watch the former on a screen in Manhattan), Backlash in Newark, and now Evolution in Long Island.
That market is huge for wrestling, but they may be overdoing it just a bit, especially when a couple of those shows were absolutely rotten.

I'd assume it's just because the current card (counting rumored matches) for this show is terrible.

And for bonus points, "Remember Mickie and Lita's completely bog-standard matches from 13 years ago? No? Well let's do it again anyway!"

Card looks rubbish and to be honest the standard of WWE PPV's this year has been really poor I think.
I wouldn't be rushing out to buy tickets to any WWE PPV right now. Incredibly long exhausting shows filled with average matches having shitty finishes.

What’s the real appeal of this show besides a show of “our girls can do it too,” and a generic message of gender equality? We’ve got two marquee matches featuring women who retired over 10 years ago. It’s the same shit as the Rock and Lesnar part timing. But this is probably slightly worse in that it totally marginalizes the women who are already struggling for a notable spot.
Its a bit of mixed messaging.

The choices for matches do seem really strange. I mean Mickie vs Trish or even Trish vs Lita was right there. Boom nostalgia bump for feuds that are actually fondly remembered (sadly far more rare for the women). If you must involve the Bellas, throw them in a tag match with someone. This is not rocket science. They've struck gold with Becky and Charlotte as long as they don't screw it up more but what else do they have going on?

I have no idea why they're doing Mickie vs Lita. Surely the theme should be never before seen past vs present matches like Alexa vs Trish. Lita vs Ruby Riot. Molly vs Bayley. Stuff like that.

Meltzer needs to stop talking about women. Just think of all the time he'll have left over to stretch single-sentence thoughts into nine-sentence ramblings.

Personally, I'd rather have them build up matches between present talents with the returning vets working more together. The idea of dream matches is great but I feel like this is a major opportunity for the current roster to get some great storylines going, especially with how much time is left. All too often the regular PPVs only have space for one or two women's matches/stories, so this would be a great chance for some of the women to shine that normally don't get the chance.

That's true but the fact they don't spend time building up more that 2 women's matches per normal PPV anyway means they wouldn't have time to do it for this unless they added way more women's segments to the TV shows which they probably aren't going to do, so the nostalgia/dream elements are an easy way to do it like the Alexa/Trish thing. They have a hard time getting interesting storylines going as is!

Maybe the explanation is simply that WWE fans don't care that much about a WWE Women only event.
We are not talking about prime AJW here anyway.
