I'm not a Republican nor a Democrat. I consider myself independent and vote for who I feel is the best candidate. But, I have spent a lot of time watching the tributes to Bush and they brought tears to my eyes. He seemed like such a good and decent man. I saw an article yesterday about how after his presidency, he had taken to wearing unique, colorful socks, and I just thought it was s cut and cool to see his quirky side. I have nothing but respect for him as a man and admire the love that he had for Barbara and his family. He was really a charming man.

Whenever the state trots out its pomp and circumstance to mythologize former leaders, truth is the best antidote.
Limiting discussion about a politicians death to only the positive things they did, and how much respect they deserve, is itself political. One cannot measure the man without weighing his political record. They are inseparable.
I'll leave it at that.

Well, here are some words I never ever thought I’d say.
I’m proud of George W. Bush.
18 years ago, in our darkest moment and, admittedly, I was not particularly thrilled with him, he stood at the pulpit of Washington Cathedral and spoke to try and salve the wounds of a nation. He returned to his pew and the first thing he felt on his hand was the grip of his father’s hand and the unconditional love and support from his father.
Today, he spoke again at the same church at the same pulpit and said goodbye to his father. Watching him break for a moment was painful as, for me, the past was in the past, I could only see a son who will never feel his father’s hand again and my heart ached for him. And does still. He was able to finish and do his father proud.
It’s impossible to ask a moment to let pass all, but for today, the moment is enough and worthy of our support, our tears, and respect. Tomorrow will be no easier as he takes his father to his final rest and all the days he faces ahead. But for this day and forward, he is in my prayers that he knows only peace until he feels his father’s hand on his again.

That was Jimmy Carter who was a Mr. Wrestling II Mark, yes. Ah, damn. I swear, Bush had SOME kind of wrestling connection during his Presidency, didn't he? He did send a telegram to the Paul Boesch retirement show

Good. Not great. 😊 So many Simpsons references. Did he ever address that episode or somebody ever ask him about it? He kinda started it. He said in one of his latter State of the Unions that families need to become “More like the Waltons and less like the Simpsons”, which led to a last second coach gag in that week’s Simpsons episode, which is still one of my favorite lines in the show’s history (“We’re a lot like the Waltons. We’re praying for the end of the Depression, too”). At one point the writers actually wrote Barbara a letter signed and in character by Marge Simpson. Barbara sent a positive response back about how maybe the show isn’t as bad as it looked on the surface. HW himself never said anything about the show following his intial speech

Oh, I knew he fired the first shot with that speech.
Barbara always seemed cool, even telling Jeb not to run for president because, in her words, "People are probably sick of us." Haha.

What I found endearing is that W has a thing with Michelle Obama and slipped her candies during the service. Michelle says they are partners in crime with sweet treats.
