Even Bret doubted Tom Magee

She confirmed that this is the 1986 match as Jimmy Hart managed Bret, and Bret loses. In the 1989 match, Hart actually manages Magee. The match has commentary from Bobby and Gorilla.

..........holy f***. Much like when lost Doctor Who is found, I didn’t believe it for a second. But this is really looking like the 1986 match has been found. Wow

Looks like 86 Bret to me. Plus that venue has been confirmed on Twitter to definitely be the one where the 86 match took place. Gang, this is it.

Hopefully, WWE releases the match soon. Similar dark match footage from Superstars/Challenge tapings in the same time period has been popping up on WWE Home Video releases in the past 2 years or so. Since the match has commentary, it was intended to air on TV, likely on International Wrestling Challenge.

Yeah the attire from Bret does indicate this was from 86 as he was wearing mostly pink by 89.
hopefully the match makes it's way online soon, I'm curious to see what the big deal was, Magee looked okay in other matches, but nothing to set the world on fire,IMO.

Heard for years that a copy of the match was out in a few peoples' hands. With Meltzer being supposedly one that has a copy.
Just like it was rumored for years,I first heard the rumor in 98,that someone had The Battle of Atlanta.

Anyone else kinda hoping we never get to see this? I just love the mythology this match has built.

And yeah, didn't some WWE Archives schmuck just find it on a tape labelled "Atlanta TV tapings" or something like that?

WWE had it since 2001 and didn't know until 2016. It was part of the Georgia Championship Wrestling footage they got from Turner in the WCW sale.

Hopefully it does get put out and gets some good publicity for Tom, maybe asked to do the autograph circuit. He needs some goodness in his life since his brutal beating last year.

I don't understand a few things, how does WWE not already have this? If she digitized these all for Bret, why did she need a VCR to watch it? Shouldn't she have already had one to do the digitizing, or wouldn't she have had this on a DVD-R already? If she digitized before then shouldn't she have seen it already? I recognize that brand/packaging of VHS tape and it's from the late 90s/early 2000s so it had to have been copied from another master somewhere.
Someone else said WWE got the tape from Turner... wasn't this a WWF house show or TV taping? Why would Turner have that?

Someone else said WWE got the tape from Turner... wasn't this a WWF house show or TV taping? Why would Turner have that? Turner never owned this. The match was from a TV taping. It was not aired because they wanted to put Magee on the c-town live events to gain more experience before he worked in the big cities and TV tapings which would have more exposure. She has proven she has the real tape. She says she digitized them for Bret's assistant (whom I believe she said is her sister). The reason she didn't realize she had it was because she didn't know it was a special match. She must not have retained the digital files or DVD-Rs that she made, but kept the tapes. WWE may have the master of this match, but no one who works there has been able to get a copy of it, and they have the ability to request a copy of any match. Colt Cabana and Rob Naylor have said they requested the match, but couldn't get it.
