Reading the thread, the guy is legit but the date is completely wrong. So, unsure.

Oh f***, I hope this is legit. The person who has it worked for Bret doing his personal archives, Bret’s condition at the time of doing the match was no one would see the tape, if he still feels that way, it’s unlikely to be released.

I can safely say that whenever this match sees the light of day(and it will eventually) it’s going to be really underwhelming. I feel like people have it built up like Bret performs some miracle and it’s actually just going to look like a fairly standard match from the era.

Meltzer told Cabana that he saw the match and Magee looked like the future of the business in his opinion. Vince yelled backstage that he found his new Hogan.
The next match with a different opponent? Tom didn’t know what he was doing.
I need to watch that match.

I am just picturing a lesser version of Summerslam with Bret versus super high Bulldog, only the latter at least had talent so Bret could walk him through it. Then again, Magee was, presumably, not on crack. Maybe it evens out.

For some reason, the whole backstory and this photo reminds me of Southpaw. I really hope they do a reenactment with AJ Styles dressed up as Bret, and Bret completely deadpan as Vince ("I'm Vince McMahon. I'm a real sleazeball and I don't do right by people who work their keister off for me, but boy was that a great match. Tom, you're gonna be a way bigger star than that Bret Hart. He's only been around wrestling all his life yaknow?") And maybe Tony Nese as Tom Magee.

I've seen Tom Magee wrestle Tony Atlas, and that was godawful, so honestly my standards are low and it only needs to be better than that.

I noticed it's marked something /89 for the date. The match everyone talks about is from 1986 when Bret apparently carried McGee to a great match with Vince then proclaiming McGee as his next champion. If the tape is legit then it must be another dark match when they were trying McGee out again as a heel.

WWF @ Rochester, NY - War Memorial - October 7, 1986 (8,200) Wrestling Challenge taping: Tom Magee pinned Bret Hart; the bout was to have been Magee's TV debut but was not televised as the WWF wanted to wait for the right moment; Magee's later matches proved less than impressive and his TV debut was scrapped altogether
WWF @ LaCrosse, WI - LaCrosse Center - May 16, 1989 Wrestling Challenge taping: Bret Hart vs. Megaman Tom Magee (w/ Jimmy Hart)

I asked him about a second match he had with Tom Magee that isn’t talked about as much. He confirmed to me it was in Lacrosse, WI in May of 1989. (Timeline shows May 16th as the date). He said it was one of his worst matches ever and Magee was unsafe in the ring. Also, that Magee was the heel for the match. He didn’t remember the finish to the match at all and couldn’t confirm if Jimmy Hart managed Magee that night, but said 100% the match did happen."

TJ Wilson says he believes her. She has a big box of tapes of Bret Hart matches. Supposedly she got these from someone Bret asked to digitize his tape collection. Supposedly the date on the tape was the planned air date (of the 89 match), though it could just be mislabled.

Its the '86 one that's the "infamous" match though, so if its the one from '89 its not the correct one.

Bret could’ve probably made Brakkus look like a million bucks.
