Forgot one. Watching the Lucha Bros who I am a huge fan of have to sell a f'n fire ball just to pop the video game crowd was somewhat infuriating. If that happened in WWE fans would have had a aneurysm. So let's be fair here. It's not treated as throwing a fireball it's a double palm strike. It's one of omega's signature moves as being a video game dork is part of his gimmick. If like Baron Corbin did it, yeah people would complain. If New Day did? I doubt people would complain about it either.

Context matters Plus a double palm strike can be painful

My biggest issue with AEW thus far is from reading stuff from the wrestlers contracted to them on Twitter, and from fans, both on Twitter and here is I just don’t feel welcome.
I mean, it’s clear they had a specific demographic in mind. One that feels betrayed and left behind by WWE’s creative direction, but that’s not me, and from interactions I’ve witnessed, it’s really putting me off the product.

Once the TV show starts, they should chill on bringing BTE gags and random storylines on to the shows, especially with minimal explanation.
Like, if I was a new viewer checking out Double or Nothing, I'd have no idea what the hell the Librarian thing was supposed to be.
And not to go all Jim Cornette on you guys, but I really can't stand the comedy stuff. And I tried warming up to the guy, but I am not a fan of Omega. Just looks too goofy, and I think the whole trying to be a video game character thing is lame.
Not a fan of one of their main commentators having a mask because he's a PWG indy guy. Looks tacky. It'd be different if he was like a Mil Mascaras or Mysterio level legend, but literally nobody cares who Excalibur is, sorry 🤷♂️
I know this post sounds super negative, but trust me the positives strongly outweigh the bad stuff. I'm as excited for AEW as anyone else and could spend all days listing the stuff I do like. I just wanted to end this post with that so people don't think I'm like an AEW hater or something haha(I mean, my avatar is literally one of their top dudes, so..)

That's the stuff that makes them look like "play wrestlers" and looks fake as hell.

Pretty much agree with everything you’ve said here so don’t see it as being super negative at all. I’m also happy I’m not the only one turned off by the video game stuff. Kenny Omega is supposed to be one of the biggest wrestling stars in the world but this stuff makes him look bush League imo. I’m very anti Meltzer as well so I’m a little bit worried this company could be going in a direction I don’t like but we’ll see.

It kind of sucks when you know you're not the intended demographic of the "hot new thing" anymore, when you probably would have been 10-15 years ago.

As a librarian... the shhhh gimmick is a bit cringe worthy I worked at a library. You don't shush. You never, ever, EVER shush! You tell the person or people to keep it down or they have to leave in as matter of factly a tone as possible. I have no idea why it's still a convention in fiction today. This killed the gimmick dead for me from the start. Sorry, but since they play it straight on air instead of leaning into the joke like in BTE, I can't help but not like it.

I dont mind if they do BTE style gag in the show as long its not dependent of BTE itself to work.

MJF constantly kisses up to Cody and tries to come across as a good guy in his eyes. That was even shown within that segment, where he was shoving other people away from Cody so he could be the main one attending to him. I get that, I don't like it but I get it, but to a new viewer who I'm assuming is who they'd want to appeal to on their 1st free show isn't that confusing? The guy that was running down the crowd an hour before is now saving a good guy. So if I'm a first time viewer do I boo or cheer him next time? Since he appears to be a douche, but he's kind of a nice guy too. Going back to a WWE comparison if Corbin shits on the crowd during his segment then comes out to save Roman later in the show, do I boo or cheer Corbin next show? Roman's just another wrestler while Cody is one of the AEW executives. It'd be more equivalent to Corbin coming out to save Triple H because he wants to get in good with the boss. You'd boo MJF and Corbin for being shameless brown-nosers.

MJF also tried to give Pharaoh chocolate which makes him the heeliest heel ever in my eyes.

Yeah, Cody is the most obvious heel, he was doing push-ups while Darby was recovering from a bump on the outside, and was the clear heel in his match with Dustin.
If anything the Shawn Spears spot was meant to solidify his face status going forward (for the tag match with Dustin that the Young Bucks are indicating they will play heel on BTE) that went a little overboard after the chair failed/spot was dumb.

Blindsiding someone with a chair "so that they don't have enough time to get their hands up" is not a face move.

I think its pretty safe to say Cody is a tweener or an asshole/heelish face. he also worked DoN as a heel and ended the post-match as a face.

My fears were sliiiiiightly alleviated by the most recent show, but I'm still concerned they won't be able to (or choose to) do the frantic indie-spot style without losing all narrative flow in the match.
