Though I really think the bigger threat to Spider-Verse is them going so insane with sequel hooks and spinoff bait that the property just becomes toxic, pretty much like happened with the Amazing movies. Here's what Sony currently have confirmed to be in the pipeline: - Spider-Man 3 - Into the Spider-Verse 2 - "All female" Spider-Verse spin-off - Spider-Ham spin-off - Venom 2 - Morbius - Kraven - Black Cat - Silver Sable - Nightwatch - Jackpot - Silk Throw in the talk of them trying to revive the Sinister Six movie they wanted to do before striking the deal with Disney, do we really expect things to be any different this time around? Sony have proven themselves to put the cart before the horse several times already, one of which led directly to Disney's involvement in the first place.

With Spidey all theirs, they really could revamp that whole game plan and do something cool, but yeah, I feel the skepticism.

In the right hands, every single one of those could be a great movie. In the right hands.

You think somebody can make a great movie out of that half-assed Spawn ripoff? How did Sony even get the rights to Nightwatch anyways? As near as I can tell his only connection with Spider-Man was that he was in "Maximum Carnage", but so was Captain America and Sony sure as hell isn't making any claims on his movie rights.

In the right hands, every single one of those could be a great movie. In the right hands. Without a doubt, and Sony are capable of putting out quality, as Spider-Verse proved. However, their extremely spotty success rate in the last decade and a half makes the "right hands" part the real sticking point there. Coupled with the fact that no matter how much they may try to put a positive spin on Spidey being king of his own universe now, it's evident that a big part of the allure of the Holland movies so far has been being part of a wider universe. It's a big, big gamble, especially if they're seemingly so intent on making the same mistakes that sunk the Amazing-Verse before it left port.

For what it's worth, Spike Lee is apparently involved with the Nightwatch movie. As for the rights, the character originated in a Spider-Man comic, so falls under the Spider-Man movie rights.

Nightwatch debuted in Spider-Man books, mostly only appeared in them and his his short-lived solo series, which was under the Spider-banner of titles back then. His backstory (even before the stupid retcons in She-Hulk years later) has potential and despite the visual resemblance to Spawn, there's little else in connection between them. For what it's worth, Spike Lee is apparently involved with the Nightwatch movie. He's denied that.

The one that most baffles me is Jackpot. The character basically only exists to troll fans in light of One More Day. Unless you use the later drug version I guess but even then it's not exactly a very inspired character.

Huh, I just checked, you're right. For some reason I always thought he debuted in New Warriors. I think I confused some of his details with Night Thrasher.

What? No Aunt May spinoff? See, if Spider was still in the MCU, we could have had Golden Oldie Comics.org does not allow hotlinking images. - Madison

Given that was four weeks ago and both Sony and Marvel have since said that no further negotiations are taking place, it's probably safe to call bullshit on that story.

While that's true, you have to believe that Sony had quite a few shareholders not too thrilled that they purposefully pulled Spider-Man away from a multi-billion dollar franchise like the MCU. I'm sure there's been an absolute ton of internal pressure to fix this.

Agreed, but ultimately the decision rests with Sony and not the shareholders, and Sony are obviously convinced that they can make just as much money without the MCU, if not more. If the next Spider-Man movie only makes $700 million, then we may well see them change their minds, and they'll likely find the Mouse a less accommodating negotiator by then.

That site is nothing but clickbait. I’ve never seen a single thing “reported” by them come to pass.
