The problem i have is why is it called emo? Because it's emotional? Then does that make The Smiths emo? Or R.E.M? Or U2? Or Joy Division? Killers? Oasis had that 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' song, does that mean they are emo? If anything the only emotion Fall Out Boy make you feel with their music is upbeat. Unless you dislike them obviously. Emo was an offshoot of hardcore in the 80's and was associated with bands like Husker SDu, Fugazi, Mineral, Embrace, heroin, and all other sorts of slightly more melodic and more advanced (musically) hardcore bands, unfortunately it's gone on to become associated with a certain style of clothing and a completely different style of music, mostly either crap like Fall Out Boy/Panic At The Disco/Thursday, or dodgy dual vocaled screamo bands trying to pass themselves off as gore grind or something, because they all managed to find some vintage Napalm Death shirts on ebay in a Youth Medium size. Fall Out Boy get it in the neck mostly because that Pete Wentz idiot is your typical cookie cutter looking 'emo' guy.

Again, listen to Husker Du, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Promise Ring and the like.. that's where emo comes from, and that's where you get a true understanding of the genre. How can I say this clearer? EMO.... MEANS.... NOTHING.... TODAY!!!! The ONLY ACTUAL emo bands that exist do so in the underground. I GUARANTEE there are ZERO actual emo bands in the mainstream.. but since asshat motherf***ers thing they know everything about music, but still ask, "What's their hit song?" when they hear somebody talk about a band they've never heard of, since to them, the underground doesn't exist.... they go off and label anything that has a whiny vocal as "emo".... these are the people giving us the definitions and they can't even spell the word. I'm not a fan of the genre by any means.... I can't stand it, be it mainstream radio crap... or the true emo from back in the day. It bores me.. I'd rather listen to something that makes me feel confident, not cry into my pillow. But, I'm educated enough about the genre in itself to know that every band that's labeled emo these days is not true emo. It's not even close, in most cases. This has to be frustrating for the true emo fans out there.... Fortunately, a piece of paper and a knife are never too far away.

Thursday may have started out as a screamo band, but they've moved into a more political category, in terms of subject matter. And they're a great band.

But, back in 2002 or so, they got lumped into the Screamo category. Then again, I'm pretty sure screamo is sort of a crossbreed of "that which is currently defined as emo"* and post-hardcore. *"that which is currently defined as emo" is a phrase I'm using to appease the "LISTEN TO FUGAZI" people. And I have listened to Fugazi. I found them to be meh.

But if you want actual emo that is truly amazing, listen to Circle Takes the Square. They're SO good.

Thursday and FOB rule to me. P!ATD is decent but can get annoying. I love Panic! But I'd probably like them less if I saw them live (what with all the 13 year olds in attendance), or if I actually paid attention to the radio or tv.

I love Panic! quite a bit. They're one of my favourites. I can't wait until what they release this year.
Plus, they're friends with the Dresden Dolls, who are one of the most amazing bands EVER.
