“Look, people have to buy tickets to this movie, too. This movie has to make money,” she said. “If this movie doesn’t make money it reinforces a stereotype in Hollywood that men don’t go see women do action movies.”
Charlie's Angels 2000 and 2003 made half a billion between them.
"They’ll go and see a comic book movie with Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel because that’s a male genre,”
So why make another version of Charlie's Angels which was created by two men and produced by Aaron Spelling?
“So even though those are movies about women, they put them in the context of feeding the larger comic book world, so it’s all about, yes, you’re watching a Wonder Woman movie but we’re setting up three other characters or we’re setting up ‘Justice League.’”
Justice League was critically panned and made less money than the far better reviewed Wonder Woman.
"By the way, I’m happy for those characters to have box office success,” Banks adds, “but we need more women’s voices supported with money because that’s the power. The power is in the money.”
Or maybe a better writer and director.
“You’ve had 37 Spider-Man movies and you’re not complaining!” Banks said
Spider-Man is profitable..
“My real plea is for men to have enough empathy to go watch a movie starring women”.
They did. But she dismissed those movies as being in the "male genre" even though Wonder Woman was directed by a woman, and Captain Marvel was co written and directed by women.

Banks got everything wrong with selling this Charlie's Angels movie. The 2000 and 2003 movies got the tone right. They were generally light and colourful but were decent action movies that also took their villains pretty seriously. Plus they had three very likeable and charismatic actresses in the roles, who despite some silliness, were never depicted as anything short of capable women who could outhink and outfight their enemies. In Banks' version, two of the actresses are relatively unknown and Kristen Stewart, who I otherwise do like as an actress, is way out of her comfort zone. She's best as playing sullen, moody characters, not a wisecracking detective who can kick people's asses. The Twilight fanbase has not stuck with her, probably after she alienated many of them by cheating on Edward Cullen for real. I think hunky guys were the draw for the Twilight series, not the boring female lead. Hyping the movie as woke was the death blow. Even if the intentions are good, the final product, as was seen with Ghostbusters, tends to be heavy handed, insulting to many people, and audiences just reject it. You might have a point here. Personally, I don't know the story between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, because I don't really delve too much about the personal lives of celebrities. But of course, some people do and that was what alienated them from her. I don't even know if American Ultra came out after that whole thing. But even that movie wasn't successful. Like I said, I don't know much about their past relationship. You made a good point, however. Regarding her performance, I did like how she did it in the movie. Yes, I actually saw that movie. Also, to the person who mentioned about not having to justify liking things that the majority don't, sometimes it's something that I should do because even though some people will say that it's okay to like something, they'll contradict it by saying something else. For example, as much as I have told people that I liked the 2016 Ghostbusters film, they say it's fine if you like it, but then they'll also turn around and say that I was watching a different film or what drugs are you on when you were watching it. It's clear that they didn't respect my opinion.

Sullen and moody is such a crutch. I mean the best girl was the drummer in that michael cera video game movie The neat thing about that movie is that Michael Cera was the only one to actually know how to play before they started filming (in fact, he apparently had to dumb down his playing as he is apparently pretty good at it). The rest of the cast had to go to boot camp to learn how to play their instruments. Apparently Allison Pill was such a natural that she learned how to be a good drummer in under 2 weeks, which is insane. I will say that they toned down Allison's looks for the film for some reason. I almost did not recognize her on The Newsroom. It took me a couple of episodes thinking to myself, "Why does she look familiar?" before I figured it out.

Okay, I want to know something. What in the hell does "woke" mean? It seems that everywhere I go, whether it's talking about the new Charlie's Angels movie or Terminator: Dark Fate, everyone is using the term "woke." What does it mean? To be woke is to be conscious of and willing to do something about social issues. Since the topic was brought up check this

I love movies that show strong, feisty, independent, empowered women.
Sadly too many movies like that merely TELL me the women are strong, feisty, independent and empowered.
