No idea. I saw it mentioned in a few places and tried starting a thread on here once asking about it, but the thread got no sold. I’d be curious to know more about the situation. Do the names Johnny Falco/Joe Panzarino nor Gino Moore ring any bells? Those were the promoters there. I heard about the fire marshal calls from one company, what is now WrestlePro. But then again I heard other motivations for them to go after NWS too, more on a personal level. (it led to WP -- then PWS -- "stars" shoot invading an NWS show and commandeering the house mic and airing dirty laundry, which I think amazingly WASN'T about the phone calls!) Anyhow...to add to our list... something something Paul Heyman's checks. The Tammy Sytch expose on TNN. Getting people to chant "F--- Sabu" when he took a higher-paying NJPW stint? (thus birthing the "you sold out" movement)? Rob Black also threatened live animal abuse on his website, only backing down when cops were called and saying he was just kidding. The Eric Bischoff/Ric Flair situation from 1998. I'd count the "Be a fan" moment in ROH from Bully Ray. I’m not really familiar with the names Falco or Panzarino as a lot of the smaller promoter stories tend to blend together in my mind. Interesting info though as I was always curious about the specifics of that situation. For that Sabu thing in a Kayfabe Commentaries interview he did like a decade plus after the event he talked about that situation. You can tell it really bothered him as he was on the verge of tears even then discussing it. He said he was planning to do both shows but a flight delay caused him to be late so he completely missed the ECW show. He said he expected it to blow over and he’d be back in ECW by like the next show. However before that happened WCW gave him an offer. Of course he didn’t really fit in there and was back in ECW after just slightly longer anyway. I was actually active in the IWC back when Rob Black was pulling all his crap. The most notorious thing was him claiming he would feed a puppy to his snack and stream the whole thing. Everyone online was rightfully condemning it. Perhaps there were people excited for it somewhere but I didn’t see any. Also, many people called bullshit and expected he thankfully wouldn’t do it. Most people thought the police coming was all a work. I think it was too.

I considered bringing that up, but I wasn't sure if that was ever confirmed or not. It wasn't ever confirmed, and I personally don't buy it at all. It's too salacious; the truth is probably just it was an ambitious creative idea that he never had a good handle on and that was completely separated from what fans actually like and want. For specific sleaze, the Condron pettiness is what comes to my mind first. Generally, Quack just has that old wrestling mindset where, if you want to succeed as a wrestler, you do a bunch of free, dangerous labor without complaining. I'm sure it's common, but he's strangely unapologetic about it. I remember hearing that one DJ Hyde (who hates Quack) was the source of the "Quack slept with Saturyne/Hania" rumor, which makes it pretty dubious from the getgo. The Condron pettiness comes to mind for me, too. Especially trying to trademark Jervis Cottonbelly out from under him. He's also been using the threat of killing off characters as a way to keep people in line, which is just awful. Re: Ian Rotten, I once knew someone who wrestled for him for a time. Said Ian tried to pay people in sandwiches that had gone bad. Yeesh.

Pretty sure there isn't a promoter out there that hasn't scrimped the workers of pay - whether it's 30 bucks for an indy show, or 6 figure sums for a PPV appearance.

Bill Watts is... Bill Watts. I'm not sure much more has to be said there. Honestly, outside of Don Owen, are any of them all that clean? Most people who worked for Vince McMahon Sr. praise him. In 1962 Bruno Sammartino was becoming something of a pain in the butt to Vince McMahon Sr. for refusing to job. To teach Bruno a lesson Vince Sr. masterminded a scheme with a bunch of other promoters to get Bruno blackballed by claiming he missed a bunch of bookings that Bruno was never even told about. With no US territory willing to touch him because of this, Bruno was exiled to Toronto for about a year and change. He was only brought back in 1963 because Antonino Rocca was on the outs with Vince Sr. and Buddy Rogers was having health issues, so the newly created WWWF needed a new top guy. Not the worst thing a promoters ever done, but Vince Sr. hands are certainly not clean.

A little personal story, back in 2007 I did a favor for a promoter I was wrestling for and he in return volunteered to let me use the fed's training facility for free (wrestlers had to pay for that). After maybe six months he asked me to start paying again because the fed was struggling financially. I did, and after a while one of the boys who was in the main event "clique" asked me why am I still paying for the facility, because him and his pals use it for free. So I confronted the promoter about the situation. First he denied ever promising me free access to the training facility, and when I showed him the text message he sent me promising exactly that, he said "Well yeah, I didn't really mean it". Long story short, I got blackballed for about a year as a result.

Think the tactic may have been more Moore's thing, cause now I am remembering hearing that, before I knew of NWS. That he was calling fire in other companies. BTW, Moore (RIP) was referenced on ECW TV when they named the "Big Ass Extreme Bash." (If it really happened that way. Like I said, I don't trust the other party too)

I wonder if Spider-Man's writers were wise to the scummy nature of promoters by having the catalyst for Uncle Ben's death being a promoter who short-changed Peter on a technicality.

Another scumbag DJ Hyde story, he forbade CZW wrestlers from doing any shows with GCW. He would threaten their pushes and would sabotage their careers. I also heard he tried recruiting green wrestlers training at Tremonts facility without hus consent and being creepy

Yeah, like, for a more recent example, Pinkie Sanchez showed up for a show late, had his match, then got told by Quack afterwards that he wouldn't be getting paid for the match because he was late. Bryce Remsburg then went on Twitter to defend that, saying that was always how Chikara had done things.

I don't think it was exactly a state secret. Besides, willing to bet promoters of music and other entertainment weren't much cleaner, and often worse.

Fritz Von Eric: Covered up his sons' reckless behavior and drug use, ultimately resulting in their deaths. Beat his kids into adulthood. Most likely bought his still teenaged sons prostitutes. Put Kerry on steroids when he was 15. Forced Mike into wrestling. Immediately put him and the rest of his family in front of a camera after Mike almost died from toxic shock to promote a show, Mike barely able to function. Still kept him wrestling even after he was obviously brain damaged from the toxic shock. Barely mentioned his death on TV, most likely because he thought his suicide would hurt the family's born again image. Added cousin Lance, a fake Von Erich, to replace Mike while he was recovering from toxic shock. Covered up the fact that Kerry was high when he crashed his motorcycle into a police cruiser and severely f***ed up his foot. Potentially caused Kerry to end up losing his foot because he was forced back into the ring to early. Hid the fact that he wrestled with a prostatic because he thought it would make Kerry look week. Pointed a gun at Kevin and told him if he was a man he would have killed himself like Mike, Kerry, and Chris. Attempted to blame Kevin for Kerry's suicide in his book. Holy f***ing shit. That's all disgusting. Those were his children. I actually teared up reading that. Those poor kids never had a chance.
