Yeah, this is the sort of thing that happens when one company isn't dominating the industry. More opportunities to work elsewhere and more options for wrestlers is only a good thing versus being at the mercy of WWE's stranglehold.

Sounds similar to Ryder in he tries to get over via social media (twitter rather than youtube) and nobody in the office cares.

One more thing: I'm glad that he didn't use his indie name in the WWE as they might have ended up reviving the "Big Bully" Busick character.

At the same time, WWE isn't releasing anyone and trying to keep a stranglehold on the wrestlers who do in fact want out to the point it's causing some of the worst morale I've seen since the days of lowest point TNA.

One of my favorite utility dudes. With his crazy style he really could stay over without even having to win too many matches. He's an ideal JTTS, and I don't mean that in a bad way whatsoever; even if you beat Oney you take an ass whooping in the process.

it's probably frustrating to be in developmental in your mid 30s

WWE doesnt deserve the talent it has and should go back to signing generic big hosses and untrained models rather then wasting away talent like Oney and others.

They have too many people, full stop.
That means the usual amount of bitching and whining and unhappy people is increased.
Some have a genuine case for feeling hard done by and poorly used, and WWE absolutely should be chastised for that.
On the other hand, some just have a bigger opinion of themselves than the company (or most fans), and so it feels like a much bigger issue than it likely really is.

I mean, they're still absolutely doing that, those people just do the Florida loop. That's really the problem with NXT's structure - it's developmental, but it's also a brand in its own right trying to sell its own shows so they also need to have established star power. And of course due to constantly being used for both those things while also being a feeder for the main roster, it basically leads to a pipeline where new people are constantly coming in only to have nowhere to go and nothing to do.

For him to ask for his release? That seems crazy to me. Company is rotting from the inside. Their business plan seems to be kill wrestling before their rights contracts run out.

It’s pretty clear WWE isn’t releasing people right now, so I don’t really see the value of doing this vs. putting your head down, working through your contract, and testing the waters once it expires.
What does this accomplish beyond maybe making WWE keep him off TV or jobbing him out until his deal is done?

yeah idk if the trend is morale down in wwe but moreso, "there's a lot of options with eyes on them now. Maybe I can play a bigger role somewhere else."

This one was pretty obvious. He purged his hilarious social media account, and recently resurfaced with Biff Busick as his name. Then they ran a vignette on 205 Live last week for Danny Burch as a singles guy.
I don’t know if they’ll grant this release, but they are clearly moving on from Oney.
That being said, THROW IT UP.

Damn. Dude’s been one of my favourite talents in WWE for the last couple of years. And he’s been decently featured too, so I would have never guessed he was unhappy based on that.

Busik is lefit one of the best wrestlers going today. He knows how to tell an amazing story in ring and is an all around amazing crazy personality in the ring, and WWE has barely used him since he's been there, so this doesn't shock me whatsoever. WWE needs to trim the fat, seriously. They already have a handful of guys who want out, they can't be afraid to let people go with the growing alternative scene or it's gonna look worse and worse. I wanna see my boy Star Destroyer get the opportunities he deserves, be it AEW or anywhere else, he will have people wanting him on every roster. Part of me hope that he brings Danny Burch with him and they just go to AEW; give me Biff and Burch vs. The Lucha Bros!

Being completely honest the only Oney match I've actually seen is that preshow borefest with Gulak.

And last I heard, they weren't even getting raises for being on USA.
