Yeah, he has said some really horrible stuff over the years. Like the time he was talking about a Japanese wrestler who was the victim of domestic violence and described it as "just one of those things" because the accuser was a male wrestler he rated highly. Or the things he would call Nicole Bass or any women with breast implants. That's why I wasn't surprised when the Peyton Royce thing happened. He's always been like that. And not regarding just women, but not long ago he said that calling wrestling fans marks was just like calling black people the n word. Like, come on man.He did what? I need proof of that I feel like the crux of it was that he didn't mean to say *that*, but I remember when it happened and being absolutely baffled trying to figure out what he was even trying to get across.
And I read it now and it's still like a zen riddle to me where all outcomes are bad

Is there a screenshot with the date and time of the tweet? It’s ridiculously easy to fake tweets. It was definitely real. I remember he was replying to tweets from fans for days afterwards defending the comment. I want to say it was around 2016/2017.

Welp like clockwork this seems like it is gonna just keep escalating I was going to talk about his lack of reading comprehension because I thought he was talking about Naomi (and she was incredibly civil about their opinions) but, to be fair to him, it turns out it was actually a reference to Carmella: To be fair to Carmella, she was absolutely never suggesting that you can't criticize someone without being a wrestler; she's saying that from a wrestler's perspective, it's clearly stupid for people who aren't wrestlers to be suggesting alternatives to in-ring stuff. It's the difference between saying "Holy shit, the whole thing with NASA's new mission is a shitshow," and "See, what the engineers at NASA should have done is doowitz the whatzoos." Also christ CHRIST the "oh ho ho how amusing this ironic situation is!" tone Meltzer has in that tweet is absolutely insufferable. Anyway, regarding that Alvarez clip, I had it explained to me when I was literally fourteen years old that angry, sniping negativity was not the same thing as a comedic persona, and I wish more people had known the folks I knew when I was fourteen.

I also remember that "mark is the wrestling n-word" like "no Dave. no it isn't. stop."

For a man that is supposed to be a professional journalist he is absolutely horrible in making sense of his own words Like these are words out your brain and you typed. How do you not see the difference when you do this shit for a living. Trying to put the N word as a factor in the first place was his mistake

Well, I'm shocked that she didn't know about Bryan's epic Tex-Arkana title defenses.

God it feels like everyone but Lariato and Naomi were wrong in this whole charade.
Bryan with them skinny braids has nothing to stand on calling anything ridiculous. And Mark needs to be more professional.
Ali and Carmella gotta stop the whole "you can't criticize a wrestler" crap. Alvarez, despite his ridiculous "Robin from HIMYM came back from Argentina" braids, is a trained wrestler with a ton of experience. And if he wasn't, he can call the spot dumb. His friends definitely gotta tone it down though.
And the Women's RR was great.

She's taking casual words like "mother f***er" and "idocity" way too seriously here. As for the spot, they are completely right in my book. Honestly, words shouldn't be casually thrown about when discussing women anyway They can be right about the spot and wrong in the way they worded it Or anybody, honestly.

I didn’t see the spot in question, but yeah, Naomi is playing social media for sympathy here. They were clearly talking about her character (not her) and the spot being stupid (again, not her).

Was that "Mark and n word" tweet actually equating the terms, or saying how wrestlers were using them at a certain time, as in what the feeling/intent was behind it in that era?
Still doesn't at all feel like a true statement, but it doesn't immediately read to me as "they're just as bad", unless there were other texts involved that add that context, which there may well be.
Anyway, as for this topic, yeah, this feels like a huge nothingburger. I'll listen now and then to Alvarez's show, the annoyance is pretty much perpetually directed at the booking/writing, not the wrestlers.

Wait, they said this year was the worst women’s Rumble yet? I think this year was the best women’s Rumble yet. The immediate fan reactions/popular opinions were completely at odds to all of the reviewers this year. Every major reviewer has been praising the men's rumble as fantastic even though it was mostly bad with a good end, and trashing the women's, even though it was mostly great with a bad winner.

Also the directive to bite back at anything associated to the observer when possible is tiresome already. Here we got three wrestlers who can't get any TV time (I think Carmella was the most recently featured after several months in the phantom zone?) ready to jump down the throat of someone they apparently have never heard of, but suddenly are EXTREMELY offended by (yeah....sure). Whatever.
