O the move that Cody has done for 10 + years and a trademark ™️ n terms of his move set. I guess I just thought it was one of the “cool Indy moves” Cody now randomly uses. I’m waiting for the “nightmare destroyer” to become just a regular move in his move set. Before he does it though, all the lights have to go out, the pyro goes off and kids has to blade before he hits it Jesus dude I was joking. I think you've taken this all a bit too seriously. I think he's joking. Well I hope he's joking because the first post was the pretty cringey in its own right. And I'm saying that as a proud hater of Cody

If only you could muster up the same kind of outrage for actual bad people like Sunny.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but does the OP know there is an entire other wrestling show on another channel at the same time they can flip over & watch if they don’t like a particular wrestler or segment?

These threads are cringe. If you don’t like Cody, don’t watch Cody. For what it’s worth, I think he’s subtly trying to be increasingly insufferable each week for the incoming heel turn. I thought it was glaringly obvious that’s what’s going on.

I mean, I'm sort of over Cody, too... but AEW either pays something off well, or they drop it like a hot potato.
If I had to guess, Cody is on his way to a heel turn, which is going to leave Hangman as the only face member of The Elite.

I kind of liken it more to Jarrett in TNA in 2004-2006. It's a promotion that wouldn't be there without him, but it's hard to say that he would be featured as heavily if he weren't in that position. I thought it was crazy when he lost the stipulation title match, but he's kinda circumvented that by featuring the TNT title heavily and seemingly booking those feuds to be more important than the AEW title. They're given a lot of time and a lot of care in the writing, which is actually a good thing. A secondary title that is made to be a big deal. But the world title feuds, outside of Cage which I enjoyed, seem to just be like batting practice. Fast set-up, quick pop, and immediately onto the next one.
And I think Cody is a great talent who has again become relevant after getting really stale after the live show shutdown. But when I look at how he's presented versus wrestlers who I feel are comparable talent, he's VERY, VERY protected by the booking and writing and announcers. Which was cool because that got Brodie over like gangbusters for killing him. But that seems to just be a bump in the road for Cody instead of a real rub. He does need to be careful in not falling into the trap that a lot of guys with big power in booking have fallen into of in over-featuring himself. Put that much effort behind some other guys and get them over as singles stars as well.

The irony in hating someone for being overbearing by stating one's opinion in overbearing fashion. Mr. Cringe indeed.

I kinda get it but at the same time Cody is a good fit for the spot he's in. He's going to have at least a decent match with almost everyone and his character over enough to where people will care about who he's wrestling no matter who it is. Especially during a time like COVID where injecting new blood into the promotion is going to be difficult you can't waste a guy like that

I'm kind of in the boat in not really liking super face Cody, but even I wouldn't word it like that.

Here's how I see the whole Cody thing.
He and the company are clearly trying to make him a legit STAR, a special attraction, a marquee name. When you're a challenger company, it's hard to get those.
How many times have we complained that there are no stars in wrestling any more? Or that Vince doesn't know how to get anybody over? Does anybody feel 'special' apart from Lesnar and maybe Roman?
They're overblowing Cody on purpose, but it's less an ego-driven decision and more a business-driven one. Why not shoot for the f***ing moon and try to make him a modern-day Hogan or Austin, what's the worst that can happen if they fail?
Plus, y'know, it's a super-easy conceit to turn heel if they need to, if, say, Hangman Page is getting bigger reactions when crowds can come back en masse.

My level of fondness for Cody comes and goes. There are times he's the best thing on the show, there are times I have zero interest in him. Right now is the latter but I know at some point he'll have me interested again.

I get that people don't like Cody, but he is hardly triple H times 5. Who on the roster can you honestly say has had their career come out worse because of wrestling Cody?

The problem with Cody is when is Arn going to betray him? C'mon, Enforcer. Do what is right.

I actually think his baby face speech is leading to a heel turn. A lot of heels don't see themselves as heels. Cody isn't dumb he knows what people are thinking about him winning the tnt title back. Not losing to Brody or OC and having this grand entrance. Delusional face Cody that everyone hates is great imo.

I'm not a fan, but I understand Cody's value to AEW. I can also see the heel turn in the works, and look forward to him leaning into the traits that are making him increasingly insufferable to people like the OP.
That being said, if Full Gear ends with ANYTHING but Darby Allin standing tall as the new TNT Champion, it will be a missed opportunity.

I’m assuming him losing the title to Brodie Lee wasn't the original plan and they are going back to the slow burn heel turn judging by the booking last night.
I’m honestly not his biggest fan but if the storyline is leading to a heel turn then fine. If not then whatever it’s not the end of the world and isn’t going to make me stop carrying about AEW.
