WWE for the past 20 years has been basically the real life equivalent of Rocky Balboa at the beginning of Rocky III. They've become too comfortable, too civilized and the wrestling world is more weary of that. I'm not saying AEW is gonna be Clubber Lang but I hope someone someday kicks WWE in the dick and their teeth down their throat so they get that eye of the tiger back. While the product and fan morale has been on a consistent decline for decades now, their business moves since WCW and ECW closed has insolated them so well that they legitimately believe they're untouchable and I can't really blame them. But still, I hope they get humbled like how WCW did to them 25 years ago.

According to Vince Russo, there was no TNA marketing department because all the money went on hiring big names. There are famous stories from AJ Styles, Kaz, and Daniel's on this. AJ talked about how they had a taping of Impact one night and the arena was right by the hotel. He was recognized by someone working at the hotel and they asked what he was doing there and he said Impact was at the arena and the hotel staff didn't know. Kaz and Daniel's were at a gym one day before Impact working out and were recognized and were asked why they were there when Impact was that night. They told the people Impact was in town neither of the people in the gym knew. Basically there was no promotion no nothing. Wrestlers were not asked to go on local radios or do promotional opportunities because Dixie thought word of mouth was enough but it was important to have the one billboard in Stamford... that really showed the WWE! I mean... they weren't ever touring near Stamford but... still!

Of course the execs don't like Jungle Boy, they're corporate yes men who know Vince has driven away many wrestlers by telling them to cut their damn sideburns.

I will say this: I never buy WWE stuff. Punk's shirt after the pipe bomb promo was the only thing I ever bought. He lands in AEW and crashes PWTees systems. I just bought my first AEW figures a couple days ago.
I appreciate a company that doesn't treat their fans like idiots.

I mean at least they could have used Marko Stunt as an example.

Calling a 5'10 wrestler 'a child' is exactly the sort of amazingly regressive and out of touch bullshit that has gotten WWE to this point and keeps them from realizing how much f***ing talent they have on their hands. The only thing keeping this company's hubris from making it go down like the Hindenberg is nostalgia and habit. I can't wait for the day when Jungle Boy reaches that next level. It'll be hilarious to see how badly that comment aged. And then he shall be called... Jungle MAN. Or Jungle Dude, as someone had mentioned when I said the Jungle MAN joke some time ago. In fact, they should make a stable of Jungle Xs. Jungle Girl, Jungle Dad, Jungle adopted Boy, Jungle Dog who's actually a really pissed off leopard, Jungle Chef, Jungle Tree... is it just me or is the world Jungle when typed out looks weird...? ...culminating in the debut of Grandpa Jungle, who is a caveman that got released after being preserved in ice.

What I wanna know is how he got these executive texts. I'm not doubting that it was said but the fact he's seen texts like this is weird. Exactly what executive is letting this dude of all people see screenshots? I don't know. Andrew Zarian is a business guy; I don't exactly know why or how but his 'thing' (which has been borne out by the accuracy of a lot of his news) is having contacts with network execs etc. I buy it.

It's gonna be so much fun in a couple of months when Punk and Bryan have led to enough of a steady climb in ratings and WWE has fallen off even further because they're shit that suddenly Dynamite and Raw are head to head. People are gonna lose their minds.

I legitimately wouldn't be surprised if they actually were thinking of Marko, but thought *he* was Jungle Boy and JB himself was "Jungle" Jack Perry the son of the Hollywood guy.

They seem to have a ridiculously track record with exclusives lately (for context, they were the people to break the news of the Las Vegas Saturday SummerSlam).

I mean at least they could have used Marko Stunt as an example. If they were talking about Marko, they would have said sawed off no talent who wrestles matches involving rubber dongs. Once again. PFP checks out.

Zarian also makes it known when he breaks news he is a business guy so his contacts are on the business end and that's how things are explained to him. It's why he's the least doom and gloom about changes to NXT

I bet the executives who said this aren't even fans of wrestling. TNA is just a concept to them, and the concept is "Any competitor will eventually fail against us because they're not run as well as we are."
The best thing about AEW is that theyre not competing against WWE, theyre competing against the mistakes and business pitfalls that kill off disruptors in particular industries. They also have very different business goals from WWE, being a company that has to please its fans to be successful, while WWE is focused on shareholders and corporate partners. TNA did a fairly good job of being a disruptor, but Dixie based her business model on WWE, and they were just in a different universe.

This doesn't surprise me. Alvarez would routinely say that he's heard from a lot of people in WWE who don't understand the appeal of AEW and think it's the drizzling shits. It is what it is. This is how they react to their competition. Even when WCW was beating them, they convinced themselves that it was solely because they "stole" their stars as opposed to an incredible storyline and a more modern show. ANd similarly, when WCW went under, Vince took it as unilateral proof that his product was better and he was better. Same way that he presented a history that glossed over the infighting and self-destruction of his competition in the '80s that left them vulnerable to a sale. Vince's victories always came because he had a better product and better business sense and is just better overall as a guy, and he always beat everyone on his own merits, but nobody who could ever take the fight to him was ever better, not even once. And that's been the perception and culture in the company forever.
