But she really doesn't?
If this was back during her baddest run on the planet and she was talking about retiring from MMA to do the WWE... then yeah you might have a point...
but there's a reason like all of her movie prospects got cancelled like as soon as she lost the second time.
people who are only MMA fans aren't going to tune in for Ronda as they're is going to see the same thing of Ronda got humiliated in real fighting and went into fake fighting...
and the casual audience for Ronda moved on like... 6 years ago.
I think you misunderstand me. I didn't say Rousey was some huge A-list mainstream star. Rather, she is known outside of wrestling as a name, but she needs to be built as a wrestling star to be effective on the show. Simply acting like she's a big name & have her face Charlotte Flair because she's another big name isn't enough. She needs to be treated as a character with storylines & progression in order for people to get invested.
Rousey is also more of a star than all of their other female talent (save possibly Becky), but you can blame WWE for that one. Nobody is allowed to outshine the brand, & the WWE brand is ice cold. Record low ratings, poor ticket sales, terrible PR, you name it. WWE may be making more money, but bigger TV deals is not the same as public interest. Ronda Rousey has, ironically, benefitted from being off the show because she's been away from WWE's bad booking. Plus any other female talent wouldn't have gotten the same press if they'd have won the Rumble, would they?
Point is, very few people on WWE TV are actually stars right now. Ronda Rousey is at least, because she's been away from the WWE's shoddy creative, she's been booked strong when she's there, & she has a name which people outside of wrestling are familiar with. I think they're telling the wrong story in the wrong way, but I can't blame Ronda for that, nor can I blame them for at least trying to make SOMEBODY a star in this company not named Reigns, Lesnar or Flair.
