When I started going to live shows in the very early '90s, it was extremely common for the crowd to chant the gay slur F-word at heels, and more often than not, the babyface would really keep egging it on, with the heels playing it up by hugging their tag partner or manager. I saw it done at indy shows as late as 2010, and I wouldn't be surprised if it still goes on. Yeah... you can see t his with stuff like Ring of Honor's first show started with the Christopher Street Connection basically getting heel heat for being gay... and then getting their asses kicked by Da Hit Squad.

Man that 2006 ONS crowd was so cringe in retrospect. Literally every other chant basically boiled down to "lol ur ghey!" Another reason to be glad ECW is dead Doesn't mean those fans died with it...they're likely still fans probably either watching WWE or attending other events. Seriously this is what people clutch their pearls over? come on now...

On the subject of One night stand 2. That was the show where I converted into a Cena fan. I remember the moment too.
That black dude wiping his ass with Cena’s shirt and flipping the double bird while screaming f*** you.
I had this moment where I was like “Yo this grown ass man is that mad about this shit? Couldn’t be me.”

ECW ONS 06 is up there. If you where a "WWE" person, you getting roasted by that crowd. The stuff with Cena, Orton, and Lita. Lita I think got the worst of it in the chants being they where either drug or STD related.

After that it felt like he was far more crowd savvy and professional than someone should have on his experience level then.

There are some territories that were completely unhinged. Puerto Rico is infamous for things like when someone poured a solo cup full of piss all over Mankind on his way to the ring, but I could swear it was also a thing that fans would sometimes lob batteries at performers.
Another sometimes insane territory was Texas. I think it was Gary Hart, in addition to giving Teddy Long a razor to protect himself with, also would have people sometimes try to throw fish hooks at him attached to fishing line to try to grab him. It, along with injuries, are why Gary Hart would not bump or beg off from faces nearly as much as most heel managers, to the puzzlement of some who didn't understand that where he came from, Hart had to actually worry about keeping his own heat in part so people wouldn't try to jump them, themselves.
Cornette apparently did legitimately put a weight in his tennis racket cover to try to protect himself from fans getting too wild and rushing past security, but it's also why they gave him Big Bubba Rogers. He wasn't just to get heat, or to get over to feud with Dusty, he also was legitimately there to protect Cornette.

John Cena was so unrattled by that crowd that he actively went into the stands as part of the match during a brawl outside the ring with Rob Van Dam. He didn't break a sweat even thinking about the fans at the Ballroom that night, he played them exactly how he wanted to. He was a muscle-bound Geppetto and they were 2,500 Pinocchios.

Cena was getting plenty of heat from older fans and smarks from regular ol' WWE crowds going into ONS 2006. Cena knew he was going to be THE heel in that match (especially against Original ECW golden boy RVD) and he was so damn good at playing them. One of the most masterful heel performances I've ever seen.
Shame guys like Orton and Batista were so unnerved by it.

Honestly, as hostile as the One Night Stand 2 crowd was, I think the antipathy was still mixed with a bit of a party/reunion atmosphere along with real positivity for the likes of RVD.
New Year's Revolution 2006 on the other hand was filled with such utter loathing for Cena (tempered by only slight cheering for his opponents) that I might actually classify it as more negative than the ECW fans.

I just Re-watched the segment from 02 where Vince McMahon is interviewing potential assistants before hiring Stacey Kiebler and Good Lord is EVERYBODY involved a heel, but especially the crowd
From booing the first "Unattractive" but highly qualified lady, to chanting asshole at the one guy who auditioned and basically telling the lady who came out before Stacey to show her T**s the crowd was pretty damned savage
Now I'd be lying if I didn't laugh at how WTF EVERYTHING about this was, but they were wrong as 2 left shoes
The best/worst part is them plugging an album called "Forcible Entry" on a segment based on workplace sexual harassment

I remember a story that Jim Corbett’s told that during the storyline where JYD was in the crowd sitting at ringside at the Superdome still blinded by some heels (can’t remember who), a fan with a gun saw the heels trying to beat up JYD. He told JYD that he has got them. The heels and JYD were now legitimately scared and didn’t know what to do until security came and apprehended the fan. This was an angle in Mid-South with JYD and the Freebirds. The fan pulled a gun on Michael Hayes when he was mocking the "blind" JYD, and, in a situation that shows you how much the business has changed in 40 years, they were conflicted on whether or not to break kayfabe and stop the guy. Thankfully, someone else quickly intervened, apprehended the guy, and no one got hurt.

There was a What Culture Pro Wrestling crowd so sexist it put my partner off attending live wrestling for life. Dare I ask? The card has Viper vs Lana Austin, then Bea Priestly vs Tessa Blanchard back to back. Tonnes of chants along the lines of show us your tits, women can't wrestle and one guy loudly shouting comments about how they should fight to give him a bj. Pissed her off so much she had a one person 'show us your dick' chant in the next match. It was definitely a vocal minority, but what pissed her off the most was no one else did or said anything to them.

Also shoutouts to 90s FMW crowds fighting eachother and shit cause Onita loved it. Imagine trying to watch wrestling and somebody starts kicking your ass. Also yakuza were frequently in attendance in FMW events (both during Onita's time and after), so some of those fights might have something to do with that. This is wrong for a couple of reasons. #1 his name was Yokozuna and #2 he wasn't even really Japanese.
