I think Santana is being foolish, since yeah, they didn't get the belts but were featured constantly in angles and big matches. Still, I get not wanting to be complacent. Shame it got ugly. They were featured, yes, but there wasn’t really a story to sink their teeth into. They were in contention but never really pushed as favorites to win the tag titles, they had small feuds but never felt elevated afterwards. I don’t think Santana is foolish to treat his luck elsewhere given that the grass may not have been greener for him. I think it's reasonable to consider leaving, but he probably should have waited until his contract was up before just instead cooling himself by disappearing from TV for ages, and he certainly shouldn't come to blows with his friends. That's what I am calling foolish, the execution, rather than wanting more.

It seemed like they were looking to push Santana to another level at one point, between his match with Mox and the promos leading up to it, and his promos against Jericho right before the Inner Circle broke up Santana got a LOT of shine
I still think Santana might end up being a big solo act, but this injury came at a pretty devastating time

Santana's downfall was that Black Magic Woman: Julia Hart put a spell on him before Blood & Guts for sure!

Both PnP and Best Friends are victims of the decision to give Kenny and Hangman the titles for eight months for no real reason. It was a good run - honestly might be the only AEW tag title reign I'd without hesitations call good - but it really didn't narratively accomplish much beyond giving Kenny something to do before giving the AEW title to him, it didn't need to go nearly as long as it did, and multiple teams hit their hot periods during their run and then got cooled off by the one-two punch of that reign followed by completely pointlessly involving the belts in the FTR / Bucks feud.

One thing that was weird was they were the tag specialists in the Inner Circle, yet often big tag matches would go to another pairing in the Inner Circle. I'm thinking vs Mox and Darby and that time they had a three way match to decide who would get the title match between Jericho & MJF, Sammy & Hager and PnP, and PnP lost.
If you look at early AEW, the premier tag teams were the Bucks, Lucha Bros, Uno & Stu, Best Friends and Proud and Powerful, and the fact that only the Bucks and Lucha Bros have held the gold, and out of the other three, Uno & Stu and PnP probably won't... thats criminal.

A face SCU were the first champions, and looking back putting the tag titles on a team that works far better as a heel team wasn't the best decision. Kaz and Daniels together can be great, but not as faces. Lucha Brothers or Proud and Powerful should have been the first champs - I understand why the Bucks weren't the first champions and in the early days of AEW The Dark Order were awful - it took a while for that team to grow.

Now to be fair some of us were burying the choice of SCU as first champions from moment one

I mean more from the point of view that they were the name teams. I'd actually include SCU in those teams, but I agree they weren't used to their full potential. Super Smash Bros were probably the no 2 indie team after the Bucks. They again weren't used to their full potential. The other thing is, the tag titles don't need super long reigns, and are better off as a more competitive division. You don't need a dominant no. 1 team. You especially don't need 8 month reigns by two singles stars.

Last time most fans saw them they were still Player Uno and Stupefied and coming in as Evil Uno and Stu Grayson they looked a lot different. I remember Bryan Zane saying in his Double or Nothing review he had no idea who they were and when someone said they were the Smash Bros he didn't believe them
