I understand that they have it on hand for legal purposes, but I would like to see it destroyed. This and Droz's incident as well. In a weird way, I'm actually happy that it took place at a time where not everyone had a cell phone with a camera on it connected directly to the Internet due to the sheer amount of people who would have put it on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and other social media sites for clicks and likes. Something as horrible as that they would capitalize on it. Now, I understand that not everyone on social media are heartless, greedy clout chasers, but I have lost a lot of faith in humanity in my years. I hope that tape never sees the light of day. I feel so sorry for the Hart family's loss, especially Martha Hart. If I were Martha, I would have petitioned the court to have that tape destroyed. It was a very unfortunate incident and, I may be in the minority here, but I place the blame squarely on the WWF. They should have practiced, practiced, practiced a dangerous stunt like that. I also hear the rig wasn't the safest. I'm also in the minority that thinks they should have stopped the Over the Edge show right after that happened and given everyone their money back. The fans would have revolted, but if you see the match right after Owen's match was supposed to take place (Jeff Jarrett & Debra vs. Val Venis and Nicole Bass), you can tell their hearts weren't in it. Realistically, what was the biggest event that happened at that PPV? Austin getting screwed out of the WWF Heavyweight Championship because Shane shoved Vince into Austin, who fell into The Undertaker, who did a School Boy pin on him to win? They could have saved that for RAW the next night. Poor Owen. You're definitely not in the minority. I think most people share that sentiment, myself included. I do kinda wonder what the response would've been like from the fans in attendance if it were announced the show was ending early. There's this idea everyone would've completely understood right then and there, but it's impossible to gauge how differently people would've reacted to realizing they just witnessed someone fall to their death.

I think that one of the main reasons that people want to see videos such as this is because humans have a natural curiosity of death because it’s the absolute one thing that unites all of humanity; the knowledge that we are going to die one day and by extension we’re curious as to what it’s like in real life.
That said, I don’t ever need to see this video and locked away in the WWE vault is a good place for it.

I try to be patient. Try to rationalize some people's decisions. I can understand that no one was thinking straight that night, along with the other things we named. Would have been a good idea, though, I agree about that. (Ironically, when Vince DID cancel a show when one of his stars passed away, it ended up being the Benoit Tribute, a big backfire.)

I didn't go through this whole thread, so I may have missed something but it seems like a few people on here are assuming that there is this supposed tape with whatever it is labeled on it. Didn't Bruce Prichard go on record on his podcast and outright deny that this is even a thing? I'm not saying that he might not be lying about it or whatever but I feel like unless there is solid proof of this tape, it's kind of useless to just assume WWE has the video of the incident.

I can't see how the audience, as raunchy as they were at the time, WOULD NOT understand. I don't know wheather or not it was the right thing to do to not cancel the show, since Vince and co had very little to go by during that time, but if they had to cancel the show, I think what the sensible thing to do would be to do is instead of giving the fans in attendance a full on refund, just have the next event that comes to the Kemper arena(which was the first ever Smackdown when it became a regular show) to be credited provided they keep their ticket stub. As far as the fans who bought the PPV goes, have the next month's one be on them. I think that's reasonable.

I've seen the Dwyer one. It was all because of morbid curiosity. It was bad. I definitely don't want to see Owen's fall. Same. I have a morbid curiosity on shit like that and I’ve absolutely watched it. It’s very difficult to watch

Why would anyone (other than maybe Martha) destroy the footage? All events, good or bad, should be documented and benefits of that information existing far outweigh the negatives. There's horrible footage from many historical events, but we need it to exist to help educate and remind us about what took place. I'm not saying Owen's fall needs to be shown to the world, but its footage shouldn't be wiped away from existence.

Was Owen's death announced to the live crowd? I know JR and King announced it for the home audience but I've never heard about the live audience. On one hand, if you don't announce it, the crowd is left wondering but if you do, my goodness who has/had that horrible task of making an announcement to the people in attendance.

Additionally, Foley was unaware they hadn't told the crowd, so he probably wasn't the only one disturbed by the audience still jeering some of the wrestlers. He did also say that he wasn't sure if continuing the show was the right move or not, but that had it been him who had died, he'd have wanted the show to stop.
