So I watched the November 8th 2004 episode of RAW last night and like two things
1. Simon Dean got a full, uninterrupted 10-15 minute segment just bodyshaming random ppl in the crowd. I had no recollection of Simon Dean ever breathing on RAW let alone getting Old Day levels of too much time.
2. GENE SNITSKY HAS SEVERAL STAREDOWNS WITH WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP TRIPLE H AND EVERY TIME THE SHOT IS CLEARLY FRAMED TO IMPLY THAT SNITSKY IS GONNA BE THE MAN IN A FEW YEARS. TRIPLE H LITERALLY SAYS HOW ABUOT THAT SNITSKY HYUH?

Eugene was basically the top face on Raw for a few months in the summer of 2004. He got a rub from The Rock in one of his last appearances before his 2011 return and he was getting bigger pops and more TV time than the world champion Benoit. At least until Summerslam when the Canadian crowd turned on him hard and he never really recovered.

I always forget just how hard TNA tried with Matt Morgan sometimes. Like, he's all over the goddamn place at points.
Granted, they did always book him as if he was like a foot shorter, but his big man offense was just pretty mediocre, anyway.

Alex Riley for like a 2 month stretch after The Miz breakup was being presented as a new star and basically rubbing elbows with the top guys while beating Miz who was coming off his WWE championship run.
He tagged with Cena a few times. One of them where Stone Cold was special guest ref. One of the Cena matches involved a 6man tag with Riley, Cena and Orton. He was involved in MITB and I want to say after that they had him chase a midcard belt

Honestly, It's only now when I go back and watch 93 and 94 WWF that I'm like "Wow, they really were trying to make Lex Luger the next Hulk Hogan."

A bunch of times I remember his "we" Venom gimmick when him and Hernandez was tag champs and was declared the only tag champion carrying around both belts

David Otunga was a god damn tag team champion with John Cena.
I barely remember them mentioning he was Jennifer Hudson’s husband, but I remember the brief Cena reign somehow.

Bob Holly was booked VERY strong against Lesnar for like a 4 week period, then immediately went back to the undercard. I was not watching Smackdown at the time, but when I go back and watch, he's literally all over the show.
In some other weird alternate universe, McMahon picks Holly instead of Eddie to win the WWE title a month later at No Way Out 2004

Adam Rose and Bo Dallas debuted on the main roster at similar times and both went on 10-15 match winning streaks with Swagger, Kofi, R-Truth and Santino being prominent opponents it wasn't tv jobbers. Then when they eventually lost they seldom won again.

Carlito in 2005-06. To be fair he was pretty over briefly and his apple t-shirt would be everywhere.

Blackjack Mulligan in the WWF in late 1986/early 1987. He started by squashing Jimmy Jack Funk a few times on TV, then was bulldozing Nikolai, the Iron Sheik or Sika in under a minute most nights. He also won a ton of "$50,000 bunkhouse battle royals" to close house shows. Closest thing he had to losses were some double-countouts against Bundy. I'm honestly surprised they didn't find a way to squeeze him into WrestleMania 3, considering how tough they were making him look.

Also when Batista was his NXT pro he was like all over one episode of RAW in a full CW leading man fit before Cena clapped him.

Matt Morgan's TNA career is great cause they try so hard with him but they also clearly didn't trust him with anything super major (author's opinion: cause he suuuuucked) so by the end you just remember him as a loser who lost a lot because he choked on like every major match he had.

Then when they eventually lost they seldom won again. Didn't see anything in Adam Rose but I always thought Bo Dallas was a missed opportunity. I don't think he should've been a main eventer or anything but he could've been a real fun midcard heel character for years. Basically a modern day Honky Tonk Man. I thought his condescending phony motivational speaker gimmick was very entertaining and would always give me a good laugh. I thought he should've won the IC Title battle royal at Battle Ground 2014 when it became vacant after Wade Barrett got injured. Instead they went back to The Miz well again. Seemed like from 2011 to 2017 they just carouseled the IC Title endlessly between Miz, Barrett, Kofi Kingston, and Dolph Ziggler with none of them ever doing anything with it or getting elevated by it.

That's honestly so much worse sometimes, when someone is pushed to this prominent position and then the booking just stalls out with them, leaving everyone wondering what the hell the point was.

Val Venis getting a PPV match and feud with Mankind at No Mercy 99 randomly and then going right back to the midcard.
Although it did seem like maybe WWE were trying to push him in mid 2000 when he was IC Champ but that ended quickly as well.

I forgot the Patriot main-evented a PPV against WWF Champion Bret Hart in 1997.
