Mabel prior to his match with Diesel he looked like the next coming of Earthquake and Yokozuna. He was surprisingly agile, too bad he injured people and was wreckless.

I'm curious how the Nasty Boys were Hogan guys in 1991. I know they were later on in their careers up to even now moreso with Knobs. But in January 1991 they had just come to WWF. I guess I'm curious when they found the time to befriend Hogan given his WWF schedule over the years and them being in different promotions. Also, I'm of the mindset Power & Glory never should have done as well as they had. It was like Barry Horowitz and Hakushi teaming. Paul was about one step above Barry on the card and as mentioned was losing for years. Roma being destroyed by LOD in SD Jones like time at Wrestlemania was all he was good for. www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0FK755BBf0

I think it's insane that, after the most infamous debut of all time, WCW pressed on with the construction worker Shockmaster as an extremely prominent upper midcarder/borderline main eventer all the way to the end of 1993. He got the fall in the War Games match. He got the win for his team at Halloween Havoc. He got the win for his team (over a team featuring Regal and friggin' Steamboat) at Battlebowl. He got a (very random) singles victory at Starrcade. And, then, he was just kind of gone. It is insane, in retrospect, when you rewatch WCW '93 and see how prominently the Shockmaster remained on the roster for about a 4 month period until the very end of 1994. I think he's kind of thought of as a failed debut who fell off of the face of the Earth right afterwards. Not only that, but Fred would go as a masked spin-off character named "Super Shockmaster" that was teasing a feud with the original.

Rewatching 1987 WWF, Billy Jack Haynes was pushed pretty strong. They teamed him with top tier stars like Hogan, he was made to look strong in his matches, at one point he even got the full-nelson on King Kong Bundy of all people (Heenan ran in and got Bundy DQed, but he still got the move on him). Of course, this is still from the WM3 buildup, we'll see what happens once I get to the post-WM period.

Thanks for the link. I guess that explains it. I also am thinking the initial push in 91 also came because it was Vince's new toys.

Adam Rose and Bo Dallas debuted on the main roster at similar times and both went on 10-15 match winning streaks with Swagger, Kofi, R-Truth and Santino being prominent opponents it wasn't tv jobbers. Then when they eventually lost they seldom won again. I remember that being the case with Tensai too. It was like they flipped a switch from "pushed as a serious threat" to "jobber who can't beat anyone" with nothing in between.

And even then, it was HIS MOM that got over, not him. He dosen't even make an effective heel either given his high flying moveset. Any time he tried to say something smart-allicky it just came off as unnatural, maybe due to his piss poor mic skills(he always came off as marble mouth). Considering his kayfabe accolades and the talent he was mixing it up with, he should've been way more over with what he was given. I also remember after his "Mom" left (she was an actress they hired via casting call who quit after two months probably due to not wanting to deal with the travel that comes with it) he started randomly wearing sunglasses and Hawaiian shirts. It seemed like such forced and yet lazy attempt to give him some character. Like see this guy has personality he wears sunglasses and Hawiian shirts. Look at how cool he is! When his “mom” debuted, I immediately recognized her, she had her own sitcom years back, Thea Vidale is her name.

Guys pushed harder than you remembered...
I keep hearing stories about how much Tom Magee was pushed, and yet I can only say I'd seen maybe two matches... and maybe one from Stampede Wrestling?

Magee might best be described as someone who was going to get a big push... but plans for that disappeared once it became clear that he didn't improve as a worker and never really developed anything resembling psychology. Once Warrior arrived and had the look with actual charisma to match, it was over for Magee.

I’m convinced that the WWF was using Dino Bravo and his mob connections to get Canadian bookings or something. There’s no reason for Dino to have been doing anything. Dude was not good. Why do most of the WWF Coliseum "fan favorite" matches involve Dino Bravo? (It's an inside joke, I know not 'all' of them involve Bravo; just seems like he's the heel and 'fans' write in and DEMAND he face Koko B Ware or some shot...)

No joke one time there was a Fan Favorite match with Koko and the Brooklyn Brawler. At that point I'm sure it became obvious that it was a farce. I remember another one being Dusty against Greg Valentine. Which is another one I have a tough time seeing a fan send in a request asking to see. Unless it was some early 80's NWA mark.

Does anyone remember Dan Rodimer? He was never pushed on TV but I'm pretty sure WWE wanted him to be their next big thing until he quit the company. He challenged Cena for the title on a house show, was supposed to be the muscle for Rated RKO, and was also prominently featured in the hallway with the other superstars during the Vince limo angle.

I remember hearing that apparently Stephanie fancied him and that's why they were planning on giving him a big push with him being part of Rated RKO. However apparently he was so bad in the ring that they couldn't go forward with it.
