Sammy Guevara is from Houston and despite Jericho calling him a Spanish God, is neither Spanish nor a God. Unless he's the God of No Selling.

Hiroshi Hase and Fuminiro Niikura (both Japanese) were the Viet Cong Express in Stampede Do I remember right that Stampede were also the ones that booked Kawada as Korean? According to wiki he was “Korean” during his entire North American excursion for some reason. lol

My understanding of British wrestling from the 60s to the 2000s is that it was an endless war between raceswapped guys and fat guys that was so bloody that the leader of the fat guys went to America to become a sea monster. I also feel like the British heels managed to somehow be even lazier with names and backgrounds and such for said raceswapped dudes. Like, I still can't get over Kendo Nagasaki just as an actual name. Still surprised he didn't end up with a tag team partner named Katana Hiroshima or something.

Can't believe we've come this far without mentioning the Ugandan Giant, Kamala... a literate, civil man from Mississippi.

Closest might be Nikolai Volkoff, who was from Yugoslavia. Abdullah the Butcher, the Madman from the Sudan... Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Fritz Von Erich, German Nazi... Texan. Baron Von Raschke, German master of the Claw... Omaha, Nebraska. Colonel DeBeers, South African racist... from Missouri. I forget if they ever claimed Vladmimir Kozlov was Russian. He is Ukrainian, which, uhh, deeply unfortunate in hindsight implications involved in WWE conflating the two, if so. he was billed from Moscow. Being born in the Soviet Union makes him does probably make him the the closest mad Russian well him or Ilja Drugonuv who was born in Russia.

Isn’t that Zima Ion dude Filipino even though he’s in a Mexican group? He grew up one county over from me, based on that profile some TV show did on him. (Forgive me for forgetting where I saw it - I'm getting old, maybe MTV several years ago; was around the beginning of his TNA run.) His mother lived in the Duneland area of Chesterton/Valparaiso Indiana and you saw Mom and son discussing and creating his outfits.

Hiroshi Hase and Fuminiro Niikura (both Japanese) were the Viet Cong Express in Stampede Do I remember right that Stampede were also the ones that booked Kawada as Korean? Yeah, that's what it says on his Wiki page, he was billed as from Seoul. Let's see... who else... Ted "Rocco Rock" Petty once wrestled as Colonel DeKlerk from South Africa, in the "Pat O'Connor International Tag Team Tournament" at Starcade '90... Jack Victory also wrestled then as a New Zealander, even thought he's from Atlantic City. Although his parents were Lebanese immigrants, "The Sheik" Ed Farhat was born in Michigan. "The Cobra" George Takano was billed as from Uganda, really born in Tokyo (his father was an African-American soldier).

I was reading dude's Wiki page and learned the absolutely unbelievable fact that he made people call him YOGENSHA until 2018.

I forget if they ever claimed Vladmimir Kozlov was Russian. He is Ukrainian, which, uhh, deeply unfortunate in hindsight implications involved in WWE conflating the two, if so. I don't remember if they said so outright, but they sure implied the hell out of it between his tron graphics and ring gear. Go on YouTube and search up "Vladimir Kozlov entrance" to get the graphics he used through his ECW run, and it's literally the hammer and sickle plus a Russian military parade, so yeah. Also pretty sure he was called the "Moscow Mauler" at some point. I definitely remember "The Moscow Mauler" being in his name. Also funny that they used the Hamsic in his tron well after the fall of the USSR?

I'm Jewish living in Israel, was born in Ukraine, then part of the USSR, and was billed from Moscow, Russia for the most of my career.

Also pretty sure he was called the "Moscow Mauler" at some point. I think he's the first and last guy in WWE with an evil Soviet gimmick to actually have a listed birthplace as Soviet Union. Ilja Dragunov gets the gimmick as a heel, but he was born in Russia after the breakup, and Marina Shafir (born in then Soviet Republic of Moldova) has never used her nationality as part of her character.

I do love the guy, but I admit to always being kind of puzzled with his sorta-Mongolian, sorta jiang-shi Chinese vampire presentation, especially since they don't really hide he's definitely a Japanese guy.
