They should have gone with the face MJF ,it was something unique and special. But what I learned is that TK really likes to play safe. Not even that. If you wanted to keep him a heel, fine. Everyone would get it. But, I think the extending teasing of a face turn that everyone was popping for and then abandoning it to double down on the same stuff — that might do damage. There also just aren’t any good stories in AEW right now.

For reference, this is what they did last December. If the demo recovers to normal levels, it should be in line year over year for the next few weeks at least.
12/01/21 861,000 .31
12/08/21 872,000 .33
12/15/21 948,000 .31
12/22/21 1.020M .37
12/29/21 975,000 .37

I'd chalk it up to the holidays, and a lack of any really gripping stories at the moment.
That and MJF clearly isn't a draw. Maybe strap up Satnam Singh, he's tall

Just from looking at that line graph it peaked right around Brawl Out and the fall out from that and then has dropped off since. Is it related or just a coincidence? Who knows but it will be something to keep an eye on going forward.

It's gonna probably be this way for the Holiday Season, a lot of people are gonna be doing shit that just isn't glued to a TV. RAW lost like half a million viewers from hour one this week too, so it's not just inherently an AEW thing Huh, that's weird. I get a big drop from Hour 2 to Hour 3, but it's not like there was a riveting Monday Night Football game to keep people glued to ESPN like most weeks during the NFL season. It’s because they did a commercial free Hour 1 and extra commercials the rest of the night.

AEW is still in a bit of a funk creatively, IMO. The live crowds are not as hot on TV as they used to be as well, or maybe it's just certain markets. I mean, Connecticut historically would be a dead crowd even if WM 17 was held there so maybe that's not the best barometer. I don't know where they were last night but that was pretty weak as well.
Mox/Hangman and MJF/Danielson both sound like really good potential feuds and they both started off great last night (at least the seeds being planted in the case of MJF/Danielson), so maybe we start to see some improvement creatively into the new year.

This actually kinda sucks for MJF's character right now. I think post-PPV with him finally as champion and The Elite back they were expected to rebound a bit and MJF would absolutely have taken credit and used it on TV to further his bidding war thing. For reference, this is what they did last December. If the demo recovers to normal levels, it should be in line year over year for the next few weeks at least. 12/01/21 861,000 .31 12/08/21 872,000 .33 12/15/21 948,000 .31 12/22/21 1.020M .37 12/29/21 975,000 .37 Last year they were pre-empted on the whole West Coast for the entire 4th quarter so those numbers are even more impressive in hindsight. Like even with that huge obstacle they were still doing better than this year. Tony would probably kill for a 0.37 right now. Like Dynamite only dipped below that 3 times in their first 4 months on TBS but right now it would be considered quite a bit above average.

I think making the Elite-Death Triangle best of 7 be exclusive to Rampage (or at least like 3 matches) would have been a good idea. It'd hopefully make Rampage seem more important. I don't think it's doing anything for Dynamite but I think those names on Rampage would get that show's numbers up a bit.

The MJF segment this week was good, the ending especially with Regal had plenty of people talking I don't think it was the wrong decisions to have MJF be the ultimate villain, especially the one Regal helped make, and paid the price for it. You might think it was good, but plenty of people didn't.

Seems like Iam not the only one that soured on AEW lately There's plenty of parts of AEW that are wonderful. The wrestling is always on point, new faces are being pushed, there seems to be some more effort in putting the women on TV (even though compelling storylines are scarce in the division, actually, that's company wide IMO).

The best of seven has some great wrestling in it for sure, but it feels like such a forgone conclusion that it's gonna go to 7 matches that it feels kinda 'eh' to watch them live.

So now we're chalking it up to it being the week after Thanksgiving and people are going to be busy for a month until after Christmas and New Year's? Do people go shopping every night between Thanksgiving and Christmas? I watch everything but let's face it wrestling whatever company in general just isn't really that popular these days except for diehards like us.

I don’t think that wrestling, as a whole, is anywhere near as popular as it was in, like, 1998. I do think that, relative to the baseline number that AEW has established for itself, it makes sense for number being down this time of year. That’s true for TV as a whole. Not because people are shopping every Wednesday at 8, but because people are traveling, having Holiday parties, and just, generally, not watching as much TV.

Not because people are shopping every Wednesday at 8, but because people are traveling, having Holiday parties, and just, generally, not watching as much TV. It's why I want to see what Showbuzz has it at relative to other shows on last night (As of this moment, I just see the Tuesday ratings still). I forget if the World Cup was on at the same time as Dynamite last night, but even a non-USMNT game would grab a decent amount of live viewers on top of the NBA game. Said NBA game was also Knicks vs Bucks, so that's going to take a good chunk of people. Not only watching Giannis play, but Knicks are always a big draw even when they suck; we Knicks fans are way too loyal for our own good lol. Granted in the New York market, the viewership is likely split between national ESPN coverage and the MSG RSN.
After those, it's a question of how it ranks vs other shows. If it still does top 5-10 after NBA and maybe World Cup coverage despite the lower number, you chalk it up to an unusual night for TV and hope better for next week. If a bunch of other shows are ahead of it, too, then it's a bit more problematic.

I have no such life I don't even do anything on the holiday's themselves but watch TV or play video games.

It's shopping and other things as well which goes on for awhile when it's the holidays Again this effects all programming, including wrestling. RAW's dropoff was huge this week, AEW's ratings year over year in December are right around this mark historically There can be other factors at play here but the holiday season doesn't really ever increase viewership across any company, which is why WWE usually phones it in around Christmas with filler arcs lol
