If no one has caught at least three episodes of Steven Seagal - Lawman, please do. It is about the worst 'reality' TV this side of the Kardashians.

Seagal is so lazy, I've never seen anything like it. Tom Cruise will climb a mile high building and hang off a jet taking off, but we can't even get ol' Steve to fight standing up. He's not even 1/2 assed, he more like 1/10 assed. When it comes to getting a movie made, Tom Cruise might have a death wish to make sure it gets made. Seagal has a wish to never do a f***ing thing.

Yes, it easy to write off everything he has ever done as shit since the guy is both a walking punchline and a massive piece of shit in real life.
But Above the Law, Marked for Death, Out for Justice and Under Siege are all legit good movies that are well worth watching.

His outright lack of discipline is what gets me. He's a guy who prides himself on being this Buddhist martial arts expert but he couldn't stick to any of the exercise and diet advice given by expert trainers to keep him in the shape he was in the early 90s. They hired the best people but he just wouldn't listen and lopped years off his potential peak as a star, and made sure no career resurgence happened, guy was so pigheaded he wouldn't even do the peak Expendables movies because of feuds that were entirely one way.

Seagal is considered one of the worst SNL hosts in the long history of the show and was so much of an unfunny headache they considered dropping him and just running a hostless show. They removed it from reruns after broadcast, he was that bad. Just throwing it out there, some lovable scamp uploaded the original broadcast of this episode to archive dot org. It's one of the few episodes where you can hear the audience audibly confused on when/where to clap when the sketch was over. I may be misremembering, but I think while it was pulled from ever re-running on NBC, this was the episode where the Comedy Central rerun was heavily cut and they added an additional taped rehearsal performance from the musical guest to fill up the time. (I may be wrong on this, I'm about 65% sure this was the episode it happened on) The only episode that was aired once and never rebroadcast in whole or in part in any form was when Milton Berle hosted, who did not get the concept of the show at all and it's among the worst trainwrecks in live television history. It never saw the light of day until Saturday Night Live began releasing DVD sets. Milton didn't get the sketch concept and delivered all of his lines right into the camera - and that's the best thing you can say about it. The abrupt cut-off of his monologue and subsequent on-air tantrum have to be seen to be believed. From how it sounded in the book I read about it, virtually everyone involved in the Berle episode was miserable, especially the women. The only person who had his support was John Belushi, who seemingly had blinders on due to idolizing Berle and kept defending him as a "legend" to deflect criticism on the path to broadcast. Still, wouldn't be shocked if even he knew it was a shitshow by the end.

It's easy to say Stallone and Arnold were better than him, as they definitely were, but between fatigue and some really dubious projects, people were also getting burned out on them in a way that let guys like Seagal slip in for a brief time, along with people like Bruce Willis. They were a change of pace at a time where there was frankly people who were getting sick of Arnold and Stallone's shtick, even if it definitely aged better for the most part. There's a reason both men also dipped their toes in comedy with mixed results, they knew it had happened, too.

As a person? Yes, see the "Allegations and Lawsuits" section of his Wikipedia page, longer than the "Martial Arts" and Career" sections combined.
As a fighter? Also yes, ask Gene LeBell, who choked his ass out, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, whose fade he ducked in his "prime".
As an actor? Somehow, also yes, and he's only gotten worse with age, like the opposite of wine, or at least wine that has spoiled and turned into vinegar.

He made an album where he managed to culturally appropriate around the world. Here's his thrilling Reegae rendition with him doing a Jamaican accent.

It's a running joke with MMA Youtuber Napoleon Blownapart Of course that joke is even funnier to me since I already knew what Punani meant even before hearing that song. (I googled it after hearing the word in a Gabriel Iglasias special.)

Oh man, those poor 25-year old actresses who have to pretend to fall instantly in love with the hot and sexy Steven Seagal in every movie. Might be easier considering Seagal is like never actually on set.

Only watched all of 1 and half of 2 so far.

Nicholas Cage: Man, you must think I'm the biggest asshole ever!
Lorne Michaels: No, that would be Steven Segal.

I keep misreading the thread title as "Speilberg" I mean, Speilberg has directed some classics and all, but when you get right down to the meat of it... yeah, dude was shit. (he does need to stop "updating" his own work though fr)

Because of this thread I went back and watched Hard to Kill last night. He's a bloviating joke now but yeah, I get why his early movies were popular (though if I'm honest, probably anybody could play his character and nothing would've changed).
