Listening to the Lapsed Fan’s TNH journey has reminded me of how awful TNA 2010 was. I remember living through this wrestling war and some of the tribalism out there being kind of funny. However, there were still things mostly agreed on as terrible when it aired. Case in point, I don’t remember people defending RAW guest host Criss Angel or the Knockouts Lock Box challenge.
I do remember the TNA Deception storyline and the 10-14-10 episode of Impact having some fans contort themselves into pretzels to defend the abysmal quality and lack of actual wrestling. There was even an 8 minute video attempting to explain the Deception/They/Immortal story and pointing out roughly 16 plot holes.
What are some other examples of presently agreed upon awful storylines some fans defended at the time? I’m curious if the Papa Shango stuff was lauded in the infancy of the internet, heh.

Small correction, the Impact episode was on 10/14/10...BFG was on 10/10/10. But yes, that episode sucked.

I remember some people (mostly not here, granted) trying their damnedest to convince themselves Voodoo Kin Mafia was any good.
Also, Aces and Eights.

The handful of TNA fans that defended the 10-14-10 Impact or Bully Ray putting an unprepared, untrained Dixie Carter through a table still baffles me to this day. Like most of even the diehards rightfully shat on both things. But I guess there's always a few that put their blinders on.

It's weird that despite Lita being so beloved many fans will still defend Snitsky at any opportunity.

Weren't people bringing it up again with the Anna Jay powrbomb table spot and using it as some weird defence for both or something? (is that right? Don't watch a lot of AEW)

It's weird that despite Lita being so beloved many fans will still defend Snitsky at any opportunity. It was Kane's fault

Judging by Facebook and YouTube, it seems like a surprising (meaning non-zero) amount of fans took “Stand Up for WWE” very seriously, which just might objectively be the worst thing any promotion has ever done.

Curtis Axel, defended by me.
These days I'm a little older, a little wiser, and 100% still defending Curtis Axel.

There was a time when I was excessively careful with what I said about TNA on social media because people were THAT fixated on defending it, and I didn't want to get caught in the middle of a wrestling fandom maelstrom lol.

I feel like they do too many big spots all the time for nothing matches on AEW. Maybe I am just to old for it, but everyone is trying to break their neck in a nothing match what you actually going to do in the BIG Match? Leave some toothpaste in the tube. I don't understand how people stay engaged.

Dixie's spot happened as planned and she got seriously injured because it was a stupid idea in the first place.

He has occasionally been in great matches. However, I don't think I've ever seen a match that was great because he was in it.
