I know we all already knew it, but especially now that they're creating a new championship and putting Cody and Roman on separate brands, Cody winning would have been the correct call.

Or atleast remove the wwe championship from Roman, then you have the raw guys compete for the prestegous wwe title, the UV title can stay on Roman till mania 40 and a new Smackdown star can be made with that

Sami in Montreal is how it actually should have ended. Cody at Mania would have been fine as the crowd was waiting for it, but Sami was the logical storyline.
WWE going to keep blueballing us until we can’t keep it up anymore though and it will end with a weak and unsatisfying climax.

It's certainly the bleakest this reign has ever felt and that's saying something after Clash at the Castle. Sami in Montreal is how it actually should have ended. WWE going to keep blueballing us until we can’t keep it up anymore though and it will end with a weak and unsatisfying climax. Yeah, they're kind of back at square one in terms of heating someone up enough for it to seem like a natural ending to things. That's before we get into the timing of it all.

I think narratively/creatively speaking, it can still work for Cody to win MITB, challenge Reigns ahead of time for Summerslam inside Ford Field and do the switch there. If Cody is going to win this newly created title and it doesn’t have the WWE Championship lineage then I agree they’ve kind of lost the point of his original “finish the story” narrative.
As far as business wise goes, that’s still to be determined. Cody’s remained red hot as a draw post-Mania, with ratings and ticket sales still well ahead year over year. And his live crowd reaction seems unaffected.

lol... the WWE doesn't care anymore. They've made their money. They could put the title on a nearly 60 year old Undertaker tomorrow and have him beat the roster in a conga line of chokeslams since he can't do the tombstone anymore, and they'd STILL be profitable.
The best way to deal with the WWE is to just not.

Maybe but I wouldn’t really consider 3 years a particularly noteworthy milestone as opposed to 1000 days. They might, though. Putting Cody and Roman on separate shows and more strictly reinforcing the brand split does lead to the conclusion that they might be going away from Cody-Roman as a story this year. But I can still see a world where Cody and Brock fight to a no contest or Brock cheats to win at Backlash, Cody wins the blowoff at NOC (after an early elimination in the tourney due to Brock). Cody wins MITB, and cashes in at Summerslam. Doing a Summerslam stadium show, I wonder who else they would consider headlining against Roman though. They’ve already done Cena and Lesnar at past Summerslams. Not sure who would be a big enough name to headline the stadium show, outside of Cody or Rock. Unless they pivot back to the Sami or Jey stories.

Pretty sure Lashley and AJ are on Smackdown now to keep Roman busy through Summerslam, would be genuinely and pleasantly surprised if Cody does MitB a match but not especially hopeful at the minute.

Yeah I do think they see Roman and Cody as the two anchors of the company and so they may be hesitant to have them on the same show. In which case we might just see Cody as the Raw champ, Reigns as the Smackdown champ, with them eventually meeting again down the road.

I doubt this reign ends before Mania 40. It’s a landmark mania so I’m guessing they do the biggest title change in decades there. If anything, Cody wins the rumble and challenges Roman there

I just hope Cody comes out tonight and says he would like to win the WHC one day, but right now it’s not apart of his story. I’m hoping he wins MITB and announces ahead of time he’s cashing in on Roman at Summerslam.

Still think that Sami should have beaten Reigns for the Universal Title on Night 1, and then Cody beats Reigns for the WWE Title on Night 2.

In an industry where hindsight is this eternal lesson in "Okay yeah we should've pulled the trigger at this obvious moment and waiting cost us in the long run even if it wasn't immediate", I think it's stunning that we keep ending up here. The longest tenured booker in the history of the industry, still not 'getting it'. Especially with the threat of a new title being made and Cody not even getting his hands on the one he feels his father was robbed of when that's the thesis statement of his run. I get that business business flow charts business and all, but there's something to be said for just like, actually telling a good story to engage in the craft of storytelling that it feels WWE is just eternally too short-sighted to understand.

The longer Roman holds the title, the more inevitable that the stink that permeated his babyface run returns.

So what reason Cody have to going " oh well shucks no Dream win for me" and going for the 2nd place prize?

All this because maybe Dwayne might be available in the next 5-10 years.

Which also leads to why it's so weird when people make ratings and business metrics their bottom line in terms of considering something a good decision or not. Storyteling is an art. Good storytelling is a much more profitable business than smashing that reset button and coasting. But more importantly, good storytelling is better entertainment. WWE is weekly televised live theater. Andy Bernard should have never been regional manager, Dexter should have ended at season 5, True Detective Season 2 should never have happened and Roman should have dropped the title to Cody at Wrestlemania 39 - all regardless what the immediate ratings showed.

It's one of those things where yeah this probably could have gone into the Bitchalla thread but at the same time it kinda shows just how bad the decisions was, and continues to be
This wasn't just a bad booking decision, this was a historic f*** up, no matter how this ends for Cody, not giving him the belt in front of their biggest crowd of the year when the Bloodline storyline was at the peak and everyone was ready... just for him to lose, and then get completely humiliated immediately after on RAW, was so unbelievably braindead that I think scientists in the future will develop entire case studies into how absolutely terrible it was lmfao
I don't think Cody's winning the MITB, I don't think he's beating Roman for the belt, I frankly just think, and the third world consolation prize only strengthens the point, that they just don't want Roman to lose the belt, so everyone else is either gonna continue to suffer for it, or be shuffled off to RAW and fight over the toy that Roman's booking hasn't hoarded
It's never not gonna be upsetting and never not gonna be completely f***ing baffling and stupid. This is one of the worst booking blunders they've made not just in recent memory but probably in general, and we'll be discussing it for a long time lol
