I dont know what the OP means by "celebrities everywhere". The boom periods of the 80s and 90s were at least partially because of Cyndi Lauper and Mike Tyson respectively. Heck, even before that you could argue Ernie Ladd (who was a famous football player before he became a wrestler). "Vince McMahon's WWE never had celebrities" is either a fantastic troll or the most absurd thing I've ever seen. I can't even try and say anything as a rebuttal because I feel like I'm in the upside down Life hits faster than you can say "Enes Kanter just won the 24/7 Title"

I grew up with Shawn Michaels shaking his ass and taking off his pants and Goldust gyrating all over dudes. Whether you think that’s better or worse than today I’ll leave entirely up to you.

Good f***ing riddance. This was supposed to generate heat. If this upset you, then that was just good old Vince having his finger on the pulse. He's a natural heel, he knows how to get people to boo. This is a great example of the good old days. It's part of a show. He didn't "really" make Trish act like a dog, hell these wrestlers can make in excess of five-figures per taping. Back in the day, Trish probably bought herself a brand new car or put the down payment on her house for such an exquisite performance like this. Look at the look on her face, it's almost as if she is actually crying. I've never been more convinced with her acting skills than I was in this segment. You can't take it too seriously, they're just having fun to entertain the fans! Remember the Edge, Lita live sex celebration? They weren't really have sex, they were having fun! Then the Nature Boy comes out in one of the HIGHEST RATED SEGMENTS in Monday Night Raw history. Society was different back then. This type of stuff isn't as sensitive as it was back then. You can't use a current lens to analyze previous content. If you did that, then we'd never have the Attitude Era or Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Hope that helps, unless you guys just want to assume what I meant without asking for more information. Add Bhad Bunny to the list as well. You guys might like celebrities coming in and stealing the spotlight from the full timers, but I think it discredits the men and women who dedicated their entire lives to the sport to make less than some social media fool like Logan Paul who shows up 5 times a year. I'm more of a wrestling purist myself. I don't mind the one offs like when wrestler fought a Sumo guy or Floyd Mayweather. But we never saw US Champ Floyd and Oki Bono never main evented a PPV like Bhad Bunny did. It's lame. I like watching wrestlers in situations where it's treated like a simulated sport, not a ratings bonanza. They take opportunities and money away from the actual wrestlers who are the life blood of the sport. I bet you wouldn't be happy if you got bumped from the Royal Rumble because Pat McAfee who's already in TV for hundreds of hours a year "needed" another spot that could have gone to somebody who had never been in the rumble. Endeavor will do whatever it takes to pop a rating without any regard for "dis business". If they sell it that ant celebrity can walk in and compete with the wrestlers, it devalues the sacred art of wrestling if anyone can come in and compete with alleged world class athletes. That's my take so if you want to pick it apart, pick that apart. I'm just trying to support the boys in the back, not pad Pat Macafee or Logan Paul's wallet further. They have enough money and exposure already... You love Kofi Kingston? You love Sheamus? These dudes can't get on the card because some idiot celebrity is taking their spot and getting paid 5x the amount. You know, actual wrestlers.

"THE BOYHOOD DREAM HAS COME TRUE!" People in that arena were crying when Shawn Michaels won that belt in his home state of Texas. Goldust was way ahead of his time. A narcissistic androgynous wrestling movie star. Two great Vince creations. Agreed. Thank you for sharing. It's a shame the networks got cold feet and made Vince neuter Goldust, he had Main Event heel written all over him. People HATED Goldust.

Remember when Gronk interfered at WrestleMania to beat up Jinder Mahal? At least I think it was Jinder, that's the most forgettable part of the story so it was probably win. It was funny, the security didn't know he was part of the show and tried to stop him from jumping the rail. 😂

didn’t lita hate having to actually take her clothes off and both of them didn’t wanna do that shit at all? The same way Vince made Roman Reigns be covered in and have dog food poured all over him. 😂 Actual dogfood. Nobody is exempt because Vince believed in keeping things real. Like the time Triple H shoved his face into Big Show's ass. Vince didn't HAVE to do that. He's a billionaire. That's how he got away with it, he never did made anyone do anything he wouldn't have done himself. It's for the fans. The fact Lita had a nip slip made that segment gangbusters, people knew it was real. It's the art of kayfabe, you make it as real as possible without hurting people or suspending disbelief. Kind of like this entire thread.

didn’t lita hate having to actually take her clothes off and both of them didn’t wanna do that shit at all? Yep. Vince was an egomaniacal sexual predator who got his jollies forcing women in his employ to make out with him and be humiliated. It has nothing to do with people bring more sensitive now. It has to do with knowing why these women were bring stripped and humiliated. So a broken old man could get a hate boner. And all these celebrities he whines about taking part timers jobs? Vince. Started with him, and kept going because honestly its good business. I hate it, most fans hate it. But if the casuals want to see Bad Bunny instead of Sheamus thats what the bean counters will call for. Price of being a billion dollar company. Shareholders reign supreme.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=juxINiTtcs8&pp=ygUVUm9tYW4gcmVpZ25zIGRvZyBmb29kThis is high quality entertainment right here. Anyone who says they don't love watching this is lying to themselves. The fact we know it's actual dog food is what makes it so great. If it was something from magic, meh, but actual dog food makes it a legendary moment that will stand the rest of time.

Good response and perspective. Thank you for sharing. Well written without going too long. I was actually asking for more by the time the post ended. Great writing here. Funny enough, I am a bean counter which makes it ironic for me, but others might not get the same jollies. I said jollies to mirror what you said, we're creating art together brother. When I slap you on the back, that means I want you to reverse my hip toss. If I slap you twice, that means turn to the hardcam and taunt because we're getting ready to go home.

When the McMahons sold the WWE, your favorite childhood TV show changed forever. The product you loved like it or not was envisioned, created, and engineered by Vincent Kennedy McMahon. This is like when Star Wars was sold to Disney. The heart of what made WWE is gone. No Shane, no Stephanie. Triple H, sure. I love Triple H more than anybody but it seems like the Rock is heavily in control. The shell of wrestlers are there from the good old days, but as years go on it will be a completely new series. I've been a fan for over 20 years but I can't help but notice a giant Prime logo in the middle of the ring. Celebrities everywhere. The booking isn't what I grew up on. I was loyal to the product but at this point, I may was well watch AEW. This WWE isn't real WWE anymore and my childhood belongs to the old WWE. Does anybody else feel this way? Somebody else bought our childhood dog and changed his name. Food for thought. I stopped watching WWE in May 2021 and do not miss it.

Leeeet's just look at the card and poster for the first wrestlemania to get a good look at what Vince's vision for WWF in ring action and celebrity usage is... Oh. I wasn't even alive when this happened so I can't critique it as something about the product I knew growing up. But as a wrestling historian, WrestleMania wouldn't be WrestleMania without celebrities. Didn't really have a choice if you are trying to make the event a spectacle, you needed the biggest action star on TV. I believe Liberace was there too! But this can't be a commentary of the product I used to love, I don't love Mr. T wrestling as much as I don't like Bhad Bunny, but at least Mr T is a believable badass and not a vanilla midget. At least that's my take on it. God damn, pal, I can't get upset about something that happened before I was even alive. Born in 1991. Probably saw my first action in 1996 - 1998.
