It’s a musty old comeback but it’s true. People always say, “HHH was already a main eventer before he dated Steph.”
Yeah, mocking his card placement was dumb. But I’m pretty sure marrying Steph is why he’s in charge now. Edge was a main eventer and doesn’t run the company now.
Anyway, it’s still a lame dig. And this was a bad week to heap on more behind the scenes stuff.
Also, trying to point out Punk hypocrisy like the video above, you’re always gonna be right. But, he’s allowed to do it and everyone else is just petty, apparently.

I thought it was bad timing to put it right after the Bucks segment since it killed momentum of the show. That said, Will seems like someone who takes his work ethic real seriously, so I can't say I blame him for wanting to defend himself against Triple H's slander.

Totally cool with him taking a shot back but agree on what someone else said that he went for the most tired diss. He should've gone with something about HHH's booking or stroking his own ego by kicking off Mania, etc.
Plus, I mean, why is "sleeping to the top" a diss? If I can get a promotion after marrying my hot wife, I'm gonna do it.
Also, he should've been honest. If getting paid the same to work fewer dates is "running from the grind" then sign me up, baby. Hyping the grind is big loser energy. Take that easy schedule and wear it like a badge of honor.

I thought it was a great promo and good on Will for clapping back. Don’t let the substance get lost in the sauce because you think he made a “dated” reference. Trips (who I’ve always been a fan of dating all the way back to him being HBK’s second) is not some untouchable God King who can pop off at the mouth and not catch a receipt (like Uncle Dave seems to think) and Will - who’s really been in a groove with his promo segments lately - had every goddamn right to fire back, especially if he felt his integrity/commitment to the business had been questioned. Agreed. Ima bet all those folks calling this dated had no problem with the Rock spewing his attitude era bullshit in the WM build. Also, it wasn't a joke about H banging Steph it was a dig at his abilities to run a company. Will said the only reason you got the job was because you married the bosses daughter. Which ties into HHHs current ability to handle shit because the implication is not about sex but that he is not capable of handling the role he is in since he did not get it based upon talent but rather was clearly given via nepotism. Goddamn the bad faith takes and people being "concerned" are turning this into R/SC. I left both reddit and the discord because it was unbearable the hate for a product supposedly in channels and topics established to communicate with other fans of said product. I just want a place to enjoy my AEW shows without pedantic bad faith discourse. I thought this place might be it so after lurking I finally made an account. Now I am unsure about my decision. Edit- the HHH joke may not feel as dated to me because I did not watch wrestling from 2001 until 2022. So that certainly colors.my perception.

I said in the rate dynamite thread they could have had Callis trying to protect his investment by attempting to convince Ospreay to wrestle less often, then Will pushes back and says much the same about the grind.
Those in the know can get what he really saying but it would fit into the show and further an actual storyline. Create some tension, might start Takeshita questioning if Don's management benefits him too.
It's particularly stupid when many like HHH for making wwe better so might side with him, especially with the tired old in-law jokes directed at a man with teenage daughters. All compounded by Will being a face in a heel stable about to face one of the most beloved wrestlers around.
Then others would have just been confused wtf he was in about.

What's the saying? "It's always morally correct to talk shit on HHH?" Yeah, I'll go with that. Also, Will's grind before signing with AEW was INSANE. People's like himself, Mone', and Okada have grinded like a MF in their career. HHH should have just shut up and stuck to talking about "the GREATEST WRESTLEMNIA OF ALL TIME" instead of trying to bitch about the fish that got away.

Having been here for, god help me, 11 years (this account is a re-reg), FAN is generally pretty good. It's pretty easy to weed out and block the trolls and bad faith posters; my block list grew by like 20 after the Punk/Perry fight footage thread. And for as much as general topics can get bogged down in discourse about whatever, the live threads are a lot of fun.

Ospreay had every right to clap back, but I have no idea why that was on TV. Doesn't AEW have a podcast he could've spouted off on?
And the Steph/Paul jokes are pretty disgusting. Yup, he's been playing a 20 year long game using Stephanie and his 2 daughters as pawns in some elaborate 4D chess game in hopes of someday controlling WWE. Like, how would Will feel if someone said his wife was only with him so he'd pay for her sons college tuition? It's an ignorant thing to say or imply. Made him come across as an asshole, although as always his delivery was fantastic I just hated the content of the first half.
And I'm not saying Paul is a saint here either, dude has a bad habit of sticking his foot in his mouth from time to time, but this was not the way to respond.

It took 2 pages for calling a “Triple H nails the boss’ daughter!” joke lame to be labeled a BAD FAITH TAKE. Good luck everyone.

“Pretty sick burn”- The year 2005. By then it was getting stale. They've been married for 20 years, and have 3 daughters. It's long passed time to talk shit on their relationship. It also ignores that Hunter was already established as a main eventer before hooking up with Stephanie. But you also ignore Triple H was doing all he can to be and stay on top prior. His WCW direction prior to leaving was to be William Regal's tag partner. He learns immediately he wants control. He goes to the WWF and the first thing he asked was whose best to make friends with and immediately he's with Shawn, Razor and Diesel. No coincidence there. If WWE video game lore is to be believed, Hunter may have also played a role in the screwjob. Hell Bret's wife confronts Hunter with "What goes around, comes around" and this was before Stephanie even knew him. As soon as she joins the company in 1998, he was looking and by all accounts was with her in 1999 while still being with Chyna. To not say that didn't have anything to do would raise eyebrows. Triple H from Day 1 was power hungry and did all he could to get there from befriending the Kliq to marrying the bosses daughter. To ignore it is ignorance. That said...that comment by Osprey was on par with Punk's dig at Hulk Hogan on his debut. Yes its true and yes some of us agree, but like that comment, its such a dated statement that was edgy during its time, but now just feels passe and you may pop some smart fans who have an obsession with that sort of stuff but most of us don't really care to hear that, especially when theres no payoff. Punk wasn't gonna face Hulk Hogan at Double or Nothing and Osprey isn't facing Triple H on Dynasty, just like The Young Bucks won't ever see CM Punk for at least a few years and even thats unlikely unless things change on both sides business wise. As for passing on Osprey, Triple H likely used Vince's philosophy here. If he isn't happy, let him go because the other side won't know what to do with him. Let him get his money but also let him make the mistake of signing and down the line WWE can probably get him for that figure if not a little more.

I’m not gonna quote the whole post but above someone implied Meltzer said you can’t diss HHH. I just watched a video where he says “Will absolutely is allowed to fire back because if you don’t you’re a punching bag. Just probably should’ve read the room this week.”

I really do like Ospreay as the potential new face of the company. In general, his promo style and the way he carries himself gives off this vibe of a guy who acknowledges that he's had to grow a lot and may still have some growing to do, but he wants to do it. So in that sense, yeah, I would have given him a fresher, better line, but it also kind of fits who he is right now, too, a fiery guy with with some rough edges, personality wise, learning how to be the #1 guy on a company.
Mainly though, think it would have worked better as punctuation right before or right after an Ospreay match, as a "THIS is what you missed out on, Paul" beat. Ospreay/Claudio 100% should have been on this week's show instead of next, because it ties into the build to the Danielson match, it's pretty much guaranteed to kick ass, it gets any curious watchers to remember how great they almost let Cesaro be, and sets up the "where the best wrestle" catch phrase spot.

If he's not qualified for the job, why hasn't TKO gotten rid of him and installed their own guy? Why is TKO currently trying to establish him as WWE's Dana White?

The only thing I can criticize Will for is that there were probably even funnier things he could have said about Triple H.
