You're not supposed to be into anything, but really, once you're like "My retirement fund didn't receive a good return this", it's time to hang up the Superman cape and join the real world. I know, Superman is awesome cause he punches away all the bullies, but still, it's time. It's time. It is possible to engage in fiction and enjoy cosplay while still being firmly rooted in the real world. For some cosplay is about the artistry (it takes hours to make costumes, sewing skills, crafting skills, hell sometimes woodworking skills). For some it's because they love a character and want to dress up like them for fun for a day or two while surrounded by other people who enjoy doing the same. Hell it's like halloween.
The thing is, while every fandom has its members who are immature or not 'grown up' there are plenty who enjoy something that is not traditionally considered adult for a variety of reasons. I love stories of good overcoming evil regardless of the format, whether tv, movie, book, comic. Not everything i absorb follows that format though and I fully recognize that the world is a complicated place. However, comics, even superhero comics at their best are far more than 'Superman punches away the bullies'. The best comics tell a great story that moves the reader. It's not all awesome like that. Wrestling is similar. Some of wrestling is incredibly juvenile and immature, but when it's great, it's great.
It's easy to say join the real world, grow up. However, this thread shows that we can't even really agree on what that constitutes. I regularly game, videogame, table top game, board game and I have met a wealth of mature, well adjusted people who are friendly and welcoming. I also work with plenty of people that I honestly feel like I'm babysitting and many of them engage in what is traditionally considered grown up stuff.
My world has space for worrying about my mortgage, retirement and other adult things while also having space for the nerdy shit I love.

I enjoy the song but Spotify absolutely insists that any time I listen to anything from the 90s, this is added to the playlist.

It kills me when I see the shit that passes for maternity/paternity leave in the u.s. some of those companies being touted as great examples in that article, barely measure up to the standard in Canada and I'm sure there are plenty of places better off than us. I think it’s at least a year in Canada. And some women I know timed it right, so they basically got 3 years. Come back, get pregnant and gone again another year, repeat. They did work in between but not very long. A few months. Yeah, you get a year, though I think you can do 18 months but it's the same amount of money. Also the father can use some of that. For example each parent could do 9 months.

Fair enough, admittedly, since mania I haven't been paying much attention but it didn't really seem like there had been any fallout. Good to see something is happening. Ah, weird you were so quick to criticize something you’re not watching. Look at that rating! Draft night 1 a home run! I've been follow threads and checking clips and results every so often, but yeah since WM my interest has been quite low. Nothing I'd seen had indicated that much had really come of the Uso's losing. They always seemed to stand tall still and it felt like their loss had been no sold. Granted if I had been following closer I might have picked up on more, I'm willing to acknowledge that. I'm not sure what the rating had to do with anything I said though.

I'm in the same boat. I'd probably love it but I've only ever watched part of an episode of it. It's free on Tubi right now. Season 1 is good, but it hits it's stride by mid Season 2. Thanks, I'll have to see if it's on Tubi in Canada. Though admittedly, I'm not sure I want to go back to watching stuff with commercials. If it's the only option then I may check it out there. I'm in the same boat. I'd probably love it but I've only ever watched part of an episode of it. There's a couple of good podcasts with people going through it for the first time if that's your thing. Grey 17 is missing is newbies and veterans, any spoilers are in a section at the end after the first timers are gone. Babylon 5 for the 1st time is 2 first timers so the blind leading the blind. Great listens as they discuss things, theories without knowing anything beyond what they've seen. That sounds interesting, if I get watching the show I may check it out, though these days I don't have much time for podcasts.

You mean like they did instantly after Mania and what has been driving their story with Roman ever since. Yeah they were more overt with it last night but that’s been the thread they’ve been sewing since Mania. Fair enough, admittedly, since mania I haven't been paying much attention but it didn't really seem like there had been any fallout. Good to see something is happening.

Oh, they finally acknowledged that the usos lost the titles? That's something I guess.

I joked earlier that Roman was going to win this belt too. Now that I think of it though, have we ever had a triple champion?
I still hope things work out for Cody or someone and they do the right thing with Roman's story. I just have zero faith that they will do the right thing at any point.
Making a new world title makes me feel like Dewey, I have no expectations and I'm still disappointed.

This thread actually reminded me of when Crash Bandicoot was new and they had the commercials where he would hang outside Nintendo quarters with a megaphone. Dx 'invasion' style. I think it was meant to establish him as the new hotness since sonic was already past his peak but Mario was still in good shape.

Babylon 5 has always sounded like something right up my alley but I've never gotten around to watching it. Someday.... I'm in the same boat. I'd probably love it but I've only ever watched part of an episode of it.

A lot of Sega's core issues come down to that they spent a lot in the early to mid 90s to get market share (leaving them without much of a safety net like Nintendo's had), did not anticipate Sony's 3D technology (leading to strained efforts to alter the existing Saturn engine to match it), and loads of internal fighting at the top of SoJ (which effectively hindered efforts to right the ship in the era of the Dreamcast). While the writing may have been on the wall as early as 96, with Sony and Nintendo's domination of the home and portable markets respectively giving Sega no real inroads with consoles, certain key decisions at critical points might have eased the decline a bit. I also think that the "add ons' to the Genesis didn't do it any favors in the public's eyes either. The Sega CD and 32x were basically put out and then left to die... there were like 40 CD games available in america... and only like 55 total... and 40 total for the 32x... and 6 of them required BOTH. They sorely misread the market with the 32x. They thought people would prefer minor upgrades to their existing console over the next gen. Then they panicked and released the Saturn something like 6 months to a year early with almost no warning. The combined fumbles of the 32x and Saturn's screwed up launch/early death was pretty much the one-two punch for Sega as a console maker. The Dreamcast didn't stand a chance after that. It's amazing that it did as well as it did. It's a shame too because they really seemed to right the ship with the dreamcast but by then, most people were just done with Sega. Plus, it's not exactly endearing when you kill a console mid cycle and then release another.

As a kid it was partly tied up wealth level as well I think. The wealthier kids might have more than one game system in any generation. Meanwhile, most kids were lucky if they got one system a generation. You were with that system for the next 5-8 years. The last thing you wanted was to think you had the 'wrong' one. Also, kids are jerks with no sense of what matters.
As I got older, I started to recognize that different systems had different strengths and it wasn't about who was better. As a teenager I loved my playstation (the first one) for the single player games. However, I knew my buddies N64 was the superior party machine. In university I couldn't afford another game system and ended up moving to PC gaming as my computer was my entertainment centre for years. As I matured my tribalism lessened and lessened until I saw no use for it.
In reference to cocacola and mcdonalds, I thimk part of it is that you can get food and drink from so many sources whereas videogames are a much tighter ecosystem. At any given time there's only a few contenders in the market so it becomes much easier to pick one and go, this one, this is the one I identify with because reasons.

I'm finding this season has a lot of references to stuff that I completely don't remember. I'm starting to wonder if I somehow missed a bunch of episodes along the way. Given that the streaming situation for the arroverse shows in Canada gets a bit messy at times, this is possible. Really though, there have been multiple references to things this season that I have no recollection of, including the reference to his age this episode. I feel like I've gone from genuinely enjoying the show to watching out of habit. They reference his age multiple times through the series. 11 when his parents die 24 when he gets struck by lightning but 25 after coming out his coma 26 in season 2 Now he is 33 but biologically as of 8X16 he is 29 Thanks. I looked the episode up and I remember parts of it but had totally forgotten the main plot and the result.

Tim Burton's "Alice" in Wonderland left me so done with the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp show. I get that they like working together and they have made some fantastic films (and some duds). However, they took Alice in Wonderland and relegated Alice to a side character while focusing on Depp's Mad Hatter of all people. There is so much they could have done but instead it was just a Depp love fest. I didn't even bother to watch the second one.

So what was the last Star Wars film anyone would classify as 'great'? Empire? Are people obsessed with a franchise that hasn't been great since 1980 or so? I walked out of Rogue One genuinely excited for more Star Wars. I wanted to see what was next right then and there. I don' think I can say that for any of the 9 main movies (though I saw the original trilogy as an adolescent and already knew a fair amount of it).

Elf is the only thing I can stand Will in. I was thinking how much could Adam and Will be BBFs... oh they did seven movies together in a row... got it. That makes more sense. I remember for the longest time it felt like Will Ferrell was playing the exact same character in each of his movies. If he had the same writer each time, that's probably why.

More people are coming around to it but damn the Speed Racer movie is too damn fun. I loved it from the start and didn't get why so many seemed to be down on it. It's a great fun movie to get lost in. The race sequences are fantastic. I never even really saw the show and I had a blast.
