ECW imo was awesome. For me it wasn't necessarily better than WCW or WWF/E but was just as important to all of wrestling for its own reasons. For its time, it was SUPER edgy. It was pretty much "R-rated" wrestling compared to "PG". It was so edgy that most areas and cable/satellite providers refused to air it. If it wasn't for ECW, we wouldn't have the Attitude Era. Period. From the fans and atmosphere, to the "hardcore" garbage, to the lucha libre to the RVD, Lynn, Eddie, Benoit type wrestlers, ECW had a bit of everything, turned up 100 degrees. As a previous poster had mentioned, this was also during a time when other companies had clowns, dungeon of doom, race car driver, adam bomb, etc. etc. ECW had fans chanting awful things at women, wrestlers drinking beer, smoking, droping F bombs, insane moves, fans handing wrestlers weapons to use etc. If you weren't around to live it, you can't really appreciate how revolutionary it was for its time. Basically the whole argument is about "One man's food being another man's poison".

Raven/Dreamer. Best built fued ever. this alone made it great. But I agree that therewas a lot of crap too. How many people heard of Raven and Dreamer and their so called epic feud when they were in ECW?

Sign Guy Dudley becomes Paul Heyman, I mean Paul E Dangerously wannabe. A perfect formula for wrestlecrap. I think you should induct him as the first ECW gimmick which is wrestlecrap worthy. Discuss. www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5D5NhUikxA

I never liked violent wrestling and thats the reason I have hardly followed ECW, as I am a WWE fan. My smarky friends keep on telling me that ECW was awesome and it made WWE and WCW wrestlers look like a bunch of crybabies. I saw some old ECW videos on Youtube and didnot find them great. My question is whether ECW was really a great company with great wrestlling and storylines or was it the Heyman cool aid which made people believe it was?

I am sure it was legitimate shootfighting. If WWF(E) had cared not to bring in Butterbean then Bart Gunn would've been pushed big time.

I thought it was a cool concept, it was unpredictable because it was a shoot contest and was innovative from a creative standpoint. Too bad it didnt last long because of the injuries suffered by the contestants and also because WWF[E] made a stupid mistake by bringing in Butterbean to face Bart Gunn who was the winner of Brawl For All which made pro wrestlers look silly. Discuss!

I mean has any wrestler kicked New Jack's butt.I know Vic Grimes and the Danbury fall incident but that was not deliberate. I wanna know whether any pro wrestler has beat New Jack in a legitimate fight(and I dont mean MMA here)

I have noticed something unusual, most of the times the third number gets all the love....in our life as well as in the wrestling world. The third child gets all the love and attention from parents, while the second child is always criticised and the first one is thought to be responsible enough. Same with the wrestling scene.....10 years before, ECW got all the love and affection from smarks while WCW got criticised for its bad booking and WWF got love and hate at the same time. Today RoH gets all the love and affection from smarks much like ECW did. TNA gets most of the crap, and is often thought of as a federation with great talent being used poorly much like WCW in its dying days. Just imagine if TNA was an upstart promotion like RoH and RoH was at number 2. Would TNA get the Ro[H]yal treatment? I mean would all the smarks love the whacky TNA stuff and criticize RoH by calling it "only wrestling no entertainment" or sumthin?

I was playing Street Fighter EX2 using an emulator, my favorite character is Zangief and the reason is I always thought ECW's Taz was a miniature version of Zangief without the spinning piledriver. Anybody else thinks the same?

What age did u realise that ur a smark and joined the revolution, the IWC. I realised when I was 15 years, my sister still thinks that I am a mark and finds wrestling fans very kiddish. I am 24 now and believe me, wrestling was much more fun when I was a mark....being a smark took a lot of appeal away from wrestling. ;D When did you realize that you're a failure at spelling? Wait, that hasn't happened yet? Well then, carry on. Thanks....are you an expert at spelling? Teach me.

I used to view myself as a smark, but I realized that that term is an oxymoron, and actually doesn't exist. You can't be a mark for something, and then smart to it at the same time, it's not possible. I prefer internet mark, or mark on the internet. Smart is the last thing I want to call myself or others, when there's a good chance we could be easily manipulated by many things that come up, making us not really smart at all. But then again, I also refer to Wrestling Journalists as Marks with Contacts. The only wrestling journalists to me are Bill Apter, Keith Elliot Greenberg, and so forth. That was a smart answer. No pun intended.

RoH is an indy like ECW was during the monday night wars. They have great wrestling and most of the RoH homegrown stars are either picked by WWE or TNA.
