The problem with Shamrock's KOTR victory was that the PPV was overshadowed by the Hell in the Cell and First Blood Matches. Shamrock's win became an afterthought to the PPV.

I guess the hardest part is because I am in my mid 20s and most of the people I know who grew up watching wrestling have grown out of it by this point.

We love to sit here and analyse and critique the program. We sit here day after day to discuss the details like character depth and storyline development. The inconvenient truth is that all the intricate details that we consider important to a good wrestling angle isn't not relevant to the WWEs target audience. I don't know if you guys have been to any live events recently, but I would say about 80% or more of the crowd is comprised of parents with their young children.
The turning point was when Cena, as JR said it, was the most controversial champion in WWE history. If you remember back in 2003, Cena was a real badass antihero, in the same way Stone Cold was. Though I wasn't a big fan of rap, I enjoyed how Cena would tell off his opponents with rap, then hold up the mic for the crowd to finish the curse word in the rap. He wasn't afraid to get in his opponents face and tell them off.
Then, WWE toned Cena down for the kids. He got booed at first, and the WWE had a chance to do a "Rocky Sucks" like heel turn with him that could have skyrocketed his character. Instead, Cena remained a babyface and Vince systematically forced the smarts away from the product. I think Vince's goal was to get rid of all the smarts to where he had a completely fresh, young audience who has no idea what character development is.
So, does a critical analysis of the character development really matter nowdays considering the product is marketed towards elementary school age children ? We can sit here and decipher if Wade Barrett is getting enough heat at this stage in his career, but the reality is WWE can give the kids juvenile stuff like Hornswoggle's Court under the ring and the kids will buy it up like candy.
And I really don't think elementary school children are "smart" to the wrestling business. Grant it, most of us didn't have the internet when we were in elementary school. We couldn't look up what was going on behind the scenes. I just don't think the majority of young viewers nowdays don't really care what goes on outside of the wrestler's in-ring persona.

Back when it started, guys never crossed shows except for special occasions, like pre Wrestlemania. Seeing guys from the different brands in one ring at a time, like at Royal Rumble, really felt unique. Nowdays, they will pull guys from either show when they need more talent for that show. At this point, another draft can no longer create any interest. For instance, it wouldn't matter if they draft someone like Kofi to Raw because he completes on Raw every other week. The current brand split only matters for the lower card guys because there is only enough room for them to compete on one show. Every week, it seems like they are trying to feature their main event guys on both shows as much as possible. Years ago, the rosters were so dynamic to where they didn't need to ever pull guys from either show.

Do you think it is too soon to see a breakup match between Miz and Riley at WrestleMania just like we saw with Orton and Legacy ?

I am surprised the WWE is actually running with something that was popularized on Youtube. Just listen to the pop she got when they showed her face on the screen.

I am guessing the heater is Tony Garea since they said the heater and Johnny Ace came in to break up the fight and Ace fell down.

Here is how I would set it up.
Orton gets hit from behind so he doesn't see what happened. He is pinned and Barrett is the new champion. Nexus storms the ring and attacks Cena. Orton wakes up, picks up the chair and starts fending off Nexus. Cena & Orton stand together in the middle of the ring. Orton doesn't know what happened because he was knocked out before the pinfall. Suddenly, the reply footage appears on the screen. Orton gives Cena a WTF face. Cena gives Orton his "look man, im sorry" face.
From then, you can either cut the PPV, or they can go back to blows like they did on Raw.
It sets up a really good scenario for the following Raws. Orton and Cena are faces who don't get along, but they have to stick to together because they still are at odds with Nexus. From there, the WWE can slowly build to a Orton/Cena babyface vs. babyface at WrestleMania.

Could we see a SummerSlam '97 ending to Survivor Series ? Cena is calling it down the middle. Eventually, Barrett is fed up after Cena makes too many close pinfall counts against him. Barrett starts agitating Cena, and Cena loses his cool. Cena goes to deck Barrett with a steel chair, but inadvertently hits Orton. Cena is then foced to make the cover. Remember, SS '97 was not what turned Shawn heel. It was his "I am not apologizing speech" the night after. With this scenario, everyone is a winner. - Barrett gets major heat.
- Orton stays strong because technically he never got beat.
- Cena remains a babyface because his actions were accidental.
