Byron Saxton is terrible, truly terrible. And when you're working with JR and you're still terrible, that is saying something. He brought nothing to the table and seemed lost most of the time, all he did was make generic comments about how hard that looked etc.
Who is Briley Pierce? He looks familiar, have we seen him before?
In terms of the matches:
Seth Rollins has something. I said it last week, I shall say it here. He makes me want to watch him, and that's only a good thing. Like his finisher. The rocker/headbanger thing should get over. Jiro didnt get in enough offence to give an impression.
Jinder Mahal is just playing a stereotype. That never gets over and it's frankly embarrassing to watch. The crowd reacted to him in a typically embarrassing way. I didnt care about this match, I dislike Jinder's character and the other guy doesn't have one. Jinder isn't a bad power worker mind, his moves looked slick but really, the Camel Clutch? Come on WWE, come on.
Leo Kruger amused me. His in ring promo that was shown in his video package.....odd intonation, it amused me. Loved his entrance music, but the crowd clearly didn't care. His gimmick and music is very 80s. Ringwork is a little green, and the sleeper is never a good finisher, but I really liked him. Want to see more for sure. The crowd was reacting by the end of the match.
Legacy wrestler shows up next. I really liked the little VT, it got him over for who is he, as well as who his father was. This is what Mike McGillicutty should have been, but never was.
Time for a commentary change, good to hear Regal back, while the other guy is a decent improvement on Byron, even though I didnt catch his name.
Love the Usos entrance, that dance is cool and the crowd popped for it. The Ascension continue to be cool. WWE shows that it can have a fun tag team roster if it wanted, with these two teams, plus the few we have on the main roster. They just need to give it time and some story. I liked the commentary during this, they gave some character to themselves and to the people in the ring, without running them down. Regal's twins sound great. This was a really fast paced but exciting match. I really liked both teams. More of them please.
After the vt from earlier, here is Richie Steamboat, the vt music was better entrance music than what he was given. Rick Victor is clearly enhancement talent, and does a good job at it. Richie is a bit slower than I thought he would be, lots of rest holds/locks for quite a short match, but a good showing and it's obvious Ritchie will go somewhere. Odd finisher though, but I liked the name, Sling Blade.
Antonio Cesaro is great, but that finisher is dumb, and it's clear that the bigger the guys get, the harder a time he's having hitting it. Aksana had a mic at one point, but it looks like they cut whatever she said. Decent, but nothing special.
Husky Harris continues to interest me with his weird Deliverance-Preacher gimmick. It's working in these promos, but I shall be interested to see how he works in ring after a year off tv.
Johnny Curtis, can't say I see anything special, but that might be because he was going against Bateman, whose one of the best things to ever come through NXT. The guy is brilliant. I dont even know why I like him, I just do. His DDT finisher was very nasty looking.
Over all, decent show, but too many matches. Got a feel for some of the guys, but not really enough of one. Byron Saxton is awful. Tag teams can be cool. Legacy characters can be done well. Stereotypes stopped being cool in the 80s, but then this show has an 80s feel to it, so maybe it does work?
