One of my all time favourite matches was Angle/Benoit at the RR. And I actually sat down and tried to watch it again, I could forget about what happened, until the end when Angle leaves and you're left with Benoit getting a standing ovation, and he looks so touched by it.
Can anyone else watch his matches and forget, or is it so stuck in your mind it's difficult to concentrate on the wrestling?

I was avoiding his matches for a while (heck, someone made a homemade doc on the nWo that had a brief clip of benoit/rick steiner and i cringed during it) but i recently watched summerslam 02 and i found i could watch rvd/benoit, though i seemed to feel myself more or less cheering on rvd.

I don't watch Benoit matches anymore simply because i have a hard time just thinking of him as this guy who was a great wrestler which he was but what he did just put a huge black cloud.
Maybe i'll be able to watch him again but for now, i don't.

I have a hard time doing it, I usually just skip over his matches on the DVD's. I'm able to to watch the old rumble matches he was in now though, and just fast forwarding past his entrance (with the exception of '04 when he won), because there were so many people in the match that I can sorta ignore him.

Yeah I can watch, however now whenever I watch "The Others" with Nicole Kidman, instead of sighing with boredom during the end, I burst into laughter.
Does that make me a bad person?

No. No amount of ring finesse substitutes for the fact this man choked the life out of his poor wife (which hurts me more than Daniel's killing, actually), and deprived his son of a chance at life. To top it off, his own suicide - crude, but well planned, just cannot be fathomed.
After watching clips of his matches, where he does a diving headbutt off a ladder, for example - at the time I used to be like everyone else, and marvel at his ability - now I think, "What a stupid risk he took there. No wonder he was brain-damaged"
But then again - I sort of deprive myself of a lot of wrestling matches involving the dead. I have never watched an Owen Hart match since May 1999, ditto Curt Hennig, Bulldog, Bossman....the whole lot. There's no point. These people have ceased to exist. Their emotions captured on camera are meaningless, because they are no longer here to have anymore.

I couldn't for a couple of months, but I got better. The first match I watched with him in it was this year's Rumble, and after that I had no problem again.

I watched his DVD a few weeks ago. Matches and all. And good times were had by all.

Can I watch the matches? Yes.
Do I choose to watch the matches? No.
Only time I watch is when I'm viewing it for the other competitor(s) in the match.

Yeah, easily. I guess I just have problems making myself hate someone that I've never even met. Just because he was a murderer doesn't change the fact that he was a great wrestler, he just wasn't a great person.

So by your reckoning the only work that is relevant is by people who are still alive? As soon as they snuff it any emotion they had on camera is "meaningless?" So Bruce Lee, Laurel and Hardy, John Wayne, Orson Welles, Stanley Kubrick, River Phoenix, Marilyn Monroe, Alec Guiness - all these actors and directors movies are no longer worth watching because they're no longer on the planet? If that's the case, better bin any Sex Pistols, Nirvana, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Doors, Queen and Ramones albums too. They're all worthless drink coasters now. This comment annoyed me, not only for the sheer ignorance of its content, but for its poe-faced, matter-of-fact delivery too.

Yes I can, hell I watched his DVD about a month ago. Im still able to respect what he was, which was an amazing wrestler, and I can still watch any match he had and enjoy and appreciate it. He's still one of my 4 favorite wrestlers of all time, and thats never gonna change.

Sid Vicious murdered his girlfriend and then killed himself, but does it put me off listening to "Never Mind The Bollocks?" Nope - never will do either.
Roman Polanski drugged and anally raped a 13 year old girl, but do I still watch and enjoy his movies? Hell yes.
Ditto for Benoit.

Their emotions captured on camera are meaningless, because they are no longer here to have anymore. I totally don't understand where you're coming from here. Exactly why can't you watch a match with Mr. Perfect again? Just because he's passed on you're claiming that his stuff is meaningless? That, my friend.... is total BS. And actually, I take offense to that statement. If anything, the fact that these men and women have passed on, makes watching their matches seem a little extra special. You can tell that guys like Perfect, or The Big Boss Man (one of my personal favorites) loved what they did. And I'm sure the fact that we're still talking about them (in a positive way) after all these years..... well they've got to be smiling someplace right now. These guys lived to entertain us, and to say that because they've passed on their material is now "meaningless" is just stupid, offensive, and wrong. End rant. As for Chris Benoit. I can still watch, and enjoy his matches. To me its like watching an old movie (or football game) that had OJ Simpson in it. We all know what he turned out to be, but at the same time.... who you're watching on TV isn't the same person he became. So yes, I can watch a Chris Benoit match. ~Kyle
