That mystical all seeing all knowing Joker who's the ultimate agent of random chaos that needs perfect timing in all his intricately laid plans was just too much for one thing, just took me right out of the flick. Agreed. This was pretty much the deal-breaker for me. It took quite a bit of willpower not to stand up and scream "BULLS***!" when the Cell Phone Bomb blew up in the guy's chest. It just felt like the entire movie was Joker fanservice.

I can't say I hated "The Dark Knight," I absolutely loved it. All the hype surrounding the film actually made the release more exciting rather than ruining the expectations I had for it.

While there's no way I can respond to everyone, I do want to thank everyone for at least keeping it mostly civil.
Sorry I forget who said what, but..
1 - To the "Spider-Man 2 ripped off Superman 2", sorry if I missed that but I HATE Superman and I have never seen any of his movies.
2 - "What does Star Trek II have to do with anything?" Nothing. I just said something that reminded me of that movie so that was a little joke to lighten the hatred I have for TDK.
3 - "There is no Eddie Guerrero Effect" Yes there is, BUT, I will agree with the poster that said something along the lines of "People were excited for Heath's portrayal long before he died".
4 - Madison, thanks for clearing up the Joker origin thing. I thought it was 100% true and accepted that Batman + Red Hood + Acid = Joker. I thought the only "revisionist" thing Tim Burton did was Joker = Killed Batman's parents.

Ahhhhhhh....no. It's an amazing movie. A great escape from reality. Heath Ledger's performance is iconic and is gonna be remembered for eleventy billion years. If you can't enjoy TDK you just take life too seriously. Well,I can't agree with that. I'm glad you enjoyed it but like I said earlier,I didn't and I don't take life seriously at all. I enjoy life and if you ask anyone who knows me and they'll tell you that I probably don't take it seriously enough. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) . I take it seriously only when I need to.

I never even saw that comment, but....anyone who thinks I take life seriously knows nothing about me seeing as how my favorite movies are Godzilla movies and Army of Darkness. Serious? Me? Never. Still, I don't like a 3 hour long turd....

Gotham - It really didn't feel like Gotham, it could have been any city in America. A million times this! Although it didn't look like "any city in America" it looked like Chicago, because it was. There were Chicago landmarks all over the place. A friggin Harris Bank is in the background of one shot. Add to that the car chase with the batmobile/cycle on Lower Wacker Drive had me thinking about the Blues Brothers. The overwhelming presence of Chicago really took me out of the movie.

It was overrated and depressing. The only good parts belonged to Heath Ledger.

I loved all the pieces of Chicago present as Gotham. I thought it grounded it in reality the way some other movies did not.

I liked the movie, but I doubt that in the year 1,000,002,009 they'll be looking back on this movie as a landmark in the film industry. Sorry, I just can't stand hyperboles and exagerations.

Bale's forced and hokey "Batman voice" With you on that one. I thought TDK was a very good film, but perhaps not worthy of all the hype and attention it has received. Overall I was more impressed with Batman Begins in comparison. Still, some great performances and well done re-working and updating of characters. Some interesting symbolism too, and murky, atmospheric feel. Reflects current uncertainty and gloom of our current times well. Like it or not, it was unquestionably thought-provoking.

First off, I'm not here to discuss my opinion on the movie, for opinions are opinions and it's all good whether you liked it or not.
But about the "Eddie Guerrero Effect"
First off I believe this is Kurt Cobain Syndrome. And it's not a proper way of saying something is overrated, it isn't a proper way of saying something sucks. It is only saying that people enjoy it more because the person is deceased.

I didn't hate it, but I was really disappointed with it. The hype killed it for me and it could never live up to what my expectations were which is a shame really because it's not a bad movie...just really disappointing.
I liked Iron Man better actually.

I didn't mind the movie, but my main beef was it didn't feel like a batman move. It kinda seems like they wrote a generic action movie and then just grafted the batman genre on it. Joker never once seemed like Joker. He seemed more like the generic psycho you see in every action move, they just stuck clown make up on this one.
