Oh, spawn...yer like Venom, Ghost Rider & Batman all rolled into one. Wasn't there even a Spawn/Batman crossover at some point? Yes. Yes there was... ![](http://i44.tinypic.com/205wdv5.jpg)

The face in that pic says everything you need to know about that book. The only thing missing is a barf bag really.

OK, what's up with all the AIDS in comics? I understand it was a hot issue at the time...but someone powered by HIV? Really?
I'll issue a request, while I'm at work tonight, if someone can find me every instance of this (or at least quite a few of them), I'll reward them with something. I have no idea what. But yeah. It just seems...exploitative.

Winnik got the brain fart that seeing how she used to be a hooker he could make her DEEP by making it so she has AIDS. Unfortunately he did the whole thing in a f***tarded manner including making Ollie a total f***ing idiot who doesn't know what AIDS is.

Not 90s, but a character called Northstar from the Marvel Comics superhero team Alpha Flight was going to be HIV positive, and subsequently be outed as a homosexual. To prevent controversy, the ailment was changed to some Asgardian illness and the issue was never brought up again.
Though, they did out him as a homosexual in 1992.

internationalhero.co.uk/c/chaos.htmBecause nothing says EXTREME!!!!! like having an exclamation mark on your company's name. And the fact that the Chaos characters sucked bollocks. God I hate that company. NOTE: The views expressed in this post do not necessarily reflect the other members of the Wrestlecrap.com Forums or ProBoards.

To think the first issue had many different cover versions and sold like people's lives depended on it. I shamefully had two versions of issue one. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) Don't feel bad, dude, everyone did. "It's a Spider-Man #1, and it's being drawn by Todd McFarlane!! I'll be able to buy a house with this some day!!!" It's a shame I, and millions of others did not understand the concept of supply and demand at the time. I also, even as a kid, couldn't look past the point that Mc Farlane made it immediately obvious that he is not, and should never attept to be a writer. (RISE ABOVE IT ALL) One of the things that killed me with early Image comics is that the egotastic dorks that founded it hadn't taken into consideration how time consuming writing, laying out, pencilling, inking, scripting a comic is, AND publishing the book, along with such things as advertising/marketing, and publicity. So they stopped adctually writing and drawing the books and started paying other people to emulate their style. People were actually getting paid to draw like Rob Liefeld. And I don't think Mc Farlane has drawn a comic since the early 90's. And drawing Is the only Thing Mc Farlane does that I enjoy. As mentioned, he's a lousy writer, and every toy I've ever bought from his company has broken within minutes(yes, I actually take them out of the package and place them of a shelf). He doesn't even know how to invest in a historic baseball correctly. And that is one of what may be several rants on 90's comics.

Yeah, X Men was pretty awesome during the 90's. Except for X-Force at certain times. Sucks that most of Generation X is either dead, depowered, or forgotten. Damn right. During the 90's, even X-Mens worst was decent. There where honestly some great comics during that period.

Does anyone remember X-Man? He was cool. Was that the AoA Cable? I never cared for him. (Then again, I've only begun to care about Cable in the past two years.)

That was one of the funniest things about them. I remember one artist Portacio( ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ) was frequently so late that his comics came out once every ice age. Erik Larsen was one of the few that was actually on time I think. I also like how they all fled Marvel and it's "horrible corporate ways" and how they were never allowed to create their own characters, etc. Then what happens? Most of them end up doing clones of the Marvel/DC heroes anyways, and they end up hiring people to work for them...just like the big "mean" companies. McFarlane, who was one of the biggest complainers about evil corporate ways ends up becoming one himself with his own company. Although if you want really late comics? Read the independents. Sometimes you get one issue a year - IF you're lucky.

Quick check on this just because I felt like it, checking on what I'd call the "core" people Jubilee - Depowered, New Warriors Husk- ... has it even been confirmed if her and Warren are splitsies yet? Random background appearances only lately Chamber- Depowered, New Warriors Skin- Dead M- X-Factor Investigations, which makes her awesome Synch- Dead They really aren't doing THAT bad...

Daredevil's on-again/off-again girlfriend Karen Page got AIDS during Kevin Smith's "Guardian Devil" storyline. Although that might've been faked as part of a big villainous plan by Mysterio.

Husk and any Gutherie not named Cannonball have been in Comic Book limbo it seems, and New Warriors was so bad I wish Jubilee *Who seemed to have gotten a breast expansion due to being depowered* and Chamber were dead instead of going through that.

McFarlane, who was one of the biggest complainers about evil corporate ways ends up becoming one himself with his own company. Although if you want really late comics? Read the independents. Sometimes you get one issue a year - IF you're lucky. Of the Image 'originals', McFarlane and Larsen didn't do much more than their own books. It was Lee, Liefeld and Silvestri that went nuts and created their own sub-universes, then went nuts trying to get the books on the shelves. (EDIT: If I remember correctly, there was a 2 year gap between the annoucing of WetWorks and it actually hitting the shelf, and that was because of a death in Portacio's family. The only worse I can think of was Battle Chasers... 7 months between #4 and #5, then 17 months between #6 and #7.) The only time I can really remember Spawn being late was the whole debacle with issues 19 and 20 (I think it was those issues), when they were so late the he just published 21 and tried to move on, releasing the missing issues a few months later. Then, of course, McFarlane went on to do toys, models, directing music videos and buying Mark Maguire's balls. ;D
