*Note: I do not know if this is NEWZ!!! or not but I got it off of another forum*
When talking about why WWE made the switch to PG on MercuryNews.com, Vince McMahon had the following to say: "We just followed our audience and tried to listen to them. It's a more sophisticated product. It's just the right move business-wise, but more specifically the right move in terms of reaching our audience."
Vince was asked about MMA and UFC becoming more popular and said this: "You really can't compete with that. Why not deliver a more sophisticated product and not go to those extremes? If the audience wants those extremes, they know where to go and how to get it."
*Vince McMahon meet nursery home...You have so much in common.*

I didn't realize having a more sophisticated product meant having completely unimaginative PPV names.

Direct quotes with no source? Sounds like newz to me.
Not to say it couldn't be real, I can kind of get what he's saying; but surely being "different" doesn't mean WWE has to be the exact opposite of UFC.

Search for Vince on there site, its a real article, it pissed me off that wrestlingnewz reported it and didnt link back, I clicked the contact us button to bitch but it didnt work.
Heres the thing, they've gone PG and they're still selling out arenas, so Vince isn't wrong. Its just putting us older hardcore fans into a bitch state.

I'm tired of these PG threads.
The rating has no bearing on the product, it's the writing.

I'd rather listen to MacEnroe's squeals of disapproval than watch the WWE product he disapproves of so squealishly. Is that even a damn word? It should be just to prove the point: it sucks to be the content of a WWE show right now.

Do you think that if she loses, WWE will slowly reverse course and go back towards a more mature product? Dear God, I hope so. I'm not a "I WANT MTURE WRASSLIN LOL!" type of person, and I think a 'PG' wrestling product can still be very, very good; it's just that the stuff right now (well, mostly RAW) is almost BLATANTLY kiddie (I say this because everything is so simplified to the point of boringness...I mean, come on, "WWE Elimination Chamber"?) I don't want a 180 degree return to Attitude, but I also don't want a product that's hopelessly diluted, neutered, and declawed for the sake of exclusively appealling to children.

Too bad the majority of their audience are kids It's ALWAYS had kids as the majority of the audience. I really think sometimes our generation of wrestling fans got spoiled.

Too bad the majority of their audience are kids It's ALWAYS had kids as the majority of the audience. I really think sometimes our generation of wrestling fans got spoiled. But then the question is...are we to blame for being spoiled, or is the WWE for spoiling us with great matches, interesting storylines, and an awesome product in the first place? You can't have such great stuff for so long, and then take a nosedive and NOT expect those same fans to let out a collective "WTF?!?" at the sudden drop from the norm. I look at it this way: Pixar is known for making great movies that kids LOVE and parents also enjoy, many times MORESO than the kids really do. What would happen if Pixar all of a sudden just took a nosedive and made nothing but films geared RIGHT at the five to eight year old demographic? Stuff like an hour long animated version of "ABC 123" or "Let's Count to TEN! Starring Mickey, Pluto and the Gang"? My guess is, people would bitch, parents and older kids would damn near quit going, and Pixar would lose an ASSLOAD of business. Then they would straighten up, and go back to doing what made them money in the first place. Of course, Pixar is not run by Vince McMahon.

Sophisticated? My brain hurts. They still do dumb stuff but the Attitude era was hardly more 'sophisticated' was it? Chris Jericho's heel promos last year and Cm Punk's heel promos this year for example are far more serious in nature and to the point than the bad language 'I'm going to kick you're ass' stuff we got 10 years ago from both faces and heels. The excuse of 'edgy' led to segments such as Mae Young giving birth to a hand, HLA and the increasingly uncomfortable and dubious spectacle of people marking for women being beaten up in the ring by the male wrestlers.

The very same office that she is not going to win. Do you think that if she loses, WWE will slowly reverse course and go back towards a more mature product? Or will she keep trying for the seat, thus necessitating an even longer term PG trend? No. They are going to go G.

Yes. Because nothing says sophisticated like a man in a cow suit wrestling a midget dressed as a cowboy. In fact, I think that was the plot of a Wagner opera.

Look, all Grandfather McMahon is doing is giving his grandchildren the type of entertainment they can relate to and watch without the fear of anything inappropriate coming about. That's why Yoshi Tatsu's theme sounds like some sort of Kidz Bop creation.
Now when Aurora Rose turns 18 and starts a career of stripping... then we get the Attitude Era once again!
