Shane never struck me as a guy that was super invested in the business. I mean, not to the point where he would leave WWE because he was mad about the current direction or anything.
If he wanted more power or to forge the direction of the company he would have been working towards that from the beginning instead of laying back and allowing Steph to take most of the control and be groomed as a Vince successor. Why would he suddenly want that now, after years of not showing any such interest?
Shane is an intelligent and laid back guy. He probably has been planning on doing this eventually. The guy will never have to worry about money or work another day of his life if he didn't want to. More than likely he just wants to pursue his own interests, work less and in a less stressful environment, and spend more time with his family. I dont believe in any conspiracy theories regarding this.
Now if Steph suddenly resigned I WOULD be very suspicious.

The "unexpected turn" might be his mother's Senate run -- if he is going to stump or raise money for her, he is better off distancing himself from WWE right now (neither he nor Linda can completely escape their connection with wrestling, but I have to think it's part of her strategy, otherwise she's Governor Ventura II -- if she emerges as a serious player, it wouldn't surprise me if we see less of Vince on TV).
Having Steph/HHH at the top of the company seems inevitable but dangerous -- neither command the same respect in the industry as Vince. TNA actually might have a shot.

Oh you know, raise those petty 400 million dollars or so it would take to really compete with the WWE

This story feels odd because I'm getting the impression, from two or three places particularly, that this is the biggest bombshell of the decade but I'm really not feeling it. It's a surprise it's come along, but I was always kinda thinking at some point in the future it would anyway. Now, like said, if someone like Steph or Hunter upped sticks and quit the WWE that would definitely shock me. A lot more than Shane-o-Mac.

Shane is the only McMahon I ever liked, besides his theme music and subsequent dancing.

Paul Heyman was on f4w and talked about Shane. Two interesting things were:
-Shane wanted WWE to buy ECW in 2000 and run it himself, but Vince ixnayed the idea. - Shane originally played a huge role in ECW's return in 2006, and was basically running the whole thing. Then Vince decided to take over the whole thing and change the direction, which greatly annoyed Shane.

Until I actually hear from Shane McMahon, EVERYTHING is speculation.
But because I like speculating, here's some more phony-baloney rumors I concocted....
- Shane didn't like that his office in Stamford was on the sixth floor seeing as that he has a fear of elevators AND stairwells.
- Vince encouraged Shane to take steroids even though Shane was simply asking his dad about what to do with MVP.
- Shane wants to build a balloon shaped like a UFO and travel around the world in it.
- Shane is being cast on next season's "Dancing With The Stars" and needs ALL the time in the world to learn some new dance moves.
- Shane is running for a senate seat in New Hampshire, even though he's only driven through their once and referred to the state as 'Canada's dangling testicle'.

We are all reading it wrong. Shane Re-Signed, and his new contract comes into effect on Jan 1. Backstage rumors are saying he got a 5% raise, control of Micheal Cole's Leash and an Asteroids Cabinet in his office.

Small Update
Prowrestling.NET
-There's nothing new to report on Shane McMahon's resignation from WWE. I've spoken with a number of people and no one knows why he resigned or what's next for Shane. Multiple sources have stated their opinion that Shane was never going to get the keys to the castle and are speculating that this could have played a part in his decision, but nothing is official. There are still some sources who believe it's related to his mother's campaign, but even that is just speculation.
-The Hartford Courant covered Shane's departure from World Wrestling Entertainment over the weekend. You can read their story at Courant.com

Damn that is sweet, but he should have held out for the combined Galaga/Mrs. Pac-Man cabinet.

Shane is the Greg Gagne of the McMahon family. I like Shane but lets call a spade a spade. The guy lacks every quality a promoter needs to have to be a success in the wrestling biz. In a sense I'm glad he's not taking the reigns. I have much more faith in Hunter and Steph at keeping the family business alive.

People saying that Shane didnt want to be head of WWE, but that makes no sense given his prior ambition for buying UFC, and him taking charge and running ECW at first when it was an online only venture. Why the hell would he not want to be chairman of WWE? Shane will not be Linda's campaign manager. No serious United State Senate candidate will hire a campaign manager with no political experience.
