No yeah you are right. American Football is the exciting version of football and "soccer" is boring which is why American Football is the most popular sport in the world. Except for pretty much everywhere in the world outside of America. Your footie ball is more popular because its the simpliest sport to understand and play. Besides Basketball of course, and thats an AMERICAN sport that's caught fire globally. Love real football, but its not the easiest sport to understand when you watch it for the first time. Caught fire? Yeah and yet our Footie ball isn't simple enough for you Yanks to understand? Either that or because more than 4 or 5 countires play it you freaked out and went away to create your own inferior sport with the comforting knowledge that only you and 2 or 3 others like it. Either way I don't know what your point is here. You stupidly went into the wrong thread and when corrected started to insult the sport for no reason.

Henry said that he did handle the ball, but it's up to the referee to see it. So in effect, Henry is channeling Bobby Heenan - it's only cheating if you're caught.

Robbie Keane has screamed conspiracy, he claims FIFA wanted France in the World Cup and not Ireland.

Uruguay have claimed the last place in the 2010 World Cup with a 2-1 aggregate victory over Costa Rica.

For pete sake, can people stop with the debate about Football/American Football/whatever you're talking about?
It's just silly now, we've all heard the points.

Quite amazing for him to say that to be honest. I know in the short term he probably won't care as he is going to South Africa but I genuinely think that in the long term this is going to be blow for his reputation.

Let me just say, that if Anelka was the one who handballed it, certain people in this thread would have VERY different opinions on the event.

Wow, exactly how it was when Argentina beat us (England) in '86, shocking display by Henry, what is it with bloody blatant cheating lately, there was David N'Gogs dive and now this, come on FIFA/FA.

No less than 24 hours after the game Henry comes out and admits publically that he handled the ball!
He may as well have just did a "ha ha!" to the Irish fans.

France are crap anyway IMHO, they won't even make it past the group stages.

Yes I'd be more annoyed if it was Anelka, who by the way was lucky not to get booked for diving, but that sadly was the shadier part of Henry I thought we'd never see.

To be fair this isn't the first time he has been shady it's just that for some reason that part of his game was ignored.

France are crap anyway IMHO, they won't even make it past the group stages. You're probably right, they didn't get past the group stages in Euro 2008 and were awful. They also lost to Scotland home and away in qualifying. Last night they were awful too and didn't exactly set the world alight in the first leg either. Honestly I think the game must be replayed at a neutral venue or at least replayed in the same stadium like Arsenal did with Sheffield United in 1999. And Henry did go down a bit in my estimation last night, not just with this incident but just with his general attitude. Ireland's performance last night was fantastic and it was a great game to watch. A big game too, probably the biggest this season. I've never been to Ireland in my life but I was cheering them on. Just a shame Duff or Keane couldn't put the game to bed in normal time otherwise we wouldn't be talking about this.

I'll be supporting anyone England are playing against. I will expect nothing less, my Scottish friend. I really hope there is some justice about Henry and France, but I'm sure they'll just get a little slap on the wrist for show and they'll brush it off like nothing happned. If this doesn't call for replays, I don't know what will.

I only saw the first half, and the France goal.
- Thierry Henry has always been a cheat. Why has it taken this long for everybody to finally take notice of it?
- ROI seemed to be the better team in the tie (from what I seen).
- Howcome nobody however is mentioning the fact that Anelka may have been taken out by Given? Was it a dive, or a penalty? If a penalty, they'd have been a goal down AND a man down.
- It was a clear handball x2, and it was clearly blatant. Henry knew what he was doing and for him to blame the official is hilariously bad. The man should be ashamed of himself.
- Video replays SHOULD be implemented. But FIFA love having all these controversial incidents sadly. I hope we one day see a footballing world where the better team actually wins things from now on, but it'll take video replays to secure it.
- There should not be a rematch. When exactly would they play it? What would happen with the World Cup draw in terms of seeding? And what sort of precedent would it set for the future? If something controversial happens in the replay is there another replay and so on and so forth? It's not workable.
