Sadly, looks like Arshavin will be spending his summer in that shark suit. He won't be spending it in South Africa, that's for sure.

At least when he retires from football, Thierry Henry could easily find work as a juggler. That was an outrageous decision, and I genuinely feel bad for Ireland who over two legs were the superior team.
Looking forward to England getting to the quarter-finals again. Always fun...

I must be the only one but I quite like the Newcastle away kit! Oh and Headbanger Man, try not qualifying for any major tournaments since 1986. Swapsees?

I've never been to Ireland in my life but I was cheering them on. Remember, you're English. It is a like a rule that you should despise the French. Like Australia and New Zealand (not hate but pity) and Australia and England. and Australia and South Africa.

It's official - the replay's not happening, and France are in the World Cup. This was FIFA's call rather than the French, so something's definitely fishy there.
Roy Keane has since had a go at Ireland for not killing the game off, and that they deserved to go out for not taking their chances. That opinion is pretty refreshing, to be honest.

- Howcome nobody however is mentioning the fact that Anelka may have been taken out by Given? Was it a dive, or a penalty? If a penalty, they'd have been a goal down AND a man down. Replays showed that it was a dive, or at best Anleka losing his footing. Hopefully this will stop people saying "it evens itself out" when bad decisions are made, it might in terms of numbers but not importance. FIFA deciding there'll be no replay instead of France just shows ho much they favour the big teams.

I posted this a couple of days ago on my facebook but what the hell, here's the rant...
Want a reason why a vast majority of Americans hate soccer/football? Because of sh*tty refereeing and cheating bastards. I'm sorry, I love football as an event and as a sport but it is corrupted to it's core by a system that benefits cheats and liars (including Manchester Utd, Bristol City). What is the point of supporting a game that isn't fair?

Regarding the France vs Ireland incident - I don't see how replays can be granted based on a refereeing error. If so, wouldn't nearly every game ever played deserve a replay because of a wrongly given penalty, offside goal, etc...? Also, while FIFA may have been backing a France victory, I don't think they would have granted a replay had it been the other way round (if Ireland won controversially).
Apparently, Henry is now backing calls for a replay. Don't see this repairing his reputation though. People will just say he's trying to redeem himself now he knows that France's spot is secured.

As much as I feel bad for the Irish a replay would never have worked for reasons already stated.
Although I'm not a fan of our yellow kit I think there have been MUCH worse ones which got nowhere near the attention ours has.
Also, Drink Me Up Cider, your facebook rant made me laugh with the dropping in of Bristol City out of nowhere, I'm guessing you're a Rovers fan?

Haha, I'm probably only just in the minority of Newcastle supporters in the Durham area, I'd say it's about 60-40 Sunderland. In my defence I'm informed (as I can't remember the time period very clearly) I've supported them since I was 4, pre-Keegan's first term. My parents decided to support Newcastle as we moved to an area that was about 90% Sunderland fans and they wanted to create a bit of banter.

Quite the game at Anfield, a goalless first half, and now four in fairly quick succession. Who will crack?

No-one - it ends 2-2, more points dropped for both Liverpool and Manchester City.
