To me, that's why it's the best player in the league. His humbleness. He doesn't swagger, doesn't trash talk, nor does he act like a prima donna on the field and to the media. He never acts like he's above everyone else or demand that all attention be on him and isn't afraid to make fun of himself either. He doesn't have any bling on him or surround himself with the papparazi. So what if he'd rather watch tape of games in the 80s than guest star in a Rap Video or make a big scene at a nightclub? Growing up and seeing his Dad play year after year on a losing team and being the only bright spot on them I think taught him humility and that he's achieved success on the field that his father could only dream of achieving. Humility? Peyton Manning? That is the same guy who: Threw his OL under the bus after a playoff loss. Called Mike Vanderjagt a "liquored up idiot kicker" Has been shown to be a big whiner/pouter when things don't go his way. Humility and Peyton Manning don't exactly belong together. Everything he said about Vanderjagt proved to be true and Vanderjagt showed it after they cut him and signed Vinateri and Vanderjagt went to Dallas and missed everytime and got cut five games into the season. Whiner? Are you sure you didn't read that as Tom Brady? Brady threw a hissy fit in the middle of a game against the Ravens where he got sacked legally and he demanded a flag. Yeah Peyton gets upset when he makes a bad play or something happens but he gets over it. People get upset when they lose an important game but Peyton doesn't throw a tantrum. The O Line comment was taken as an off comment and blown up to enormous proportions by Terry Bradshaw an idiot who the number of rings on his fingers is higher than the numbers he can count too.

Yeah I'm not buying that Favre is going to retire. If we can make it to the beginning of next season without seeing him at a team facility then I'll buy it, but I'm taking a wait and see attitude with Mr. "Look at me!" I would not be surprised, and would prefer, if he took a coaching role or a mentor role on some team if he just won't leave. I don't know if you need qualifications to be a coach or assistant in the NFL though.

Called Mike Vanderjagt a "liquored up idiot kicker" Has been shown to be a big whiner/pouter when things don't go his way. Humility and Peyton Manning don't exactly belong together. This is a case of seeing what you want to see. Everyone who paid a lot of attention to the Colts the year that Manning brought up pass protection after the playoff loss had been wondering when he would finally say something along those lines. That O-line was getting him creamed pretty much all season long. It was not so bad that I thought that we had switched lines with the Texans that year, but it definitely made his job a lot harder than it needed to be. The simple fact of the matter was that he did not even go as far after that game as most analysts had be saying all year. He simply stated in a matter-of-fact manner that they had problems with their protection, which was a massive understatement. blitzes did not get picked up. Running backs were tackled in the backfield. Manning got the crap knocked out of him. If anything, he was kind of generous in his criticism. Are you really defending Vanderjagt? The guy had diarrhea of the mouth and was being a real pain in the ass. When asked about all the comments, Peyton merely asked the media why they were paying so much attention to the rantings of an idiot kicker. With that one comment, Vanderjagt stopped providing opposing teams with blackboard material. Granted, it seemed to be a turning point for Vanderjagt as he went from literally being the most accurate kicker in league history to being unable to get a job as a replacement kicker in the span of a couple of years immediately after that, but it would be unfair to both Peyton and Vanderjagt to say that Mike was so sensitive that one negative comment from his kicker completely threw him off his game for the rest of his life.

I just had a thought...
suppose Favre changes his mind (I know a real stretch there) and wants to play for the Cards, you think they would welcome him?

Just a little opinion on Peyton from a Packer fan.
The best regular season quarterback I've seen, apart from may be Dan Marino (that was before my time).
In terms of post season, average. He's as good as Brad Johnson. I know it seems unfair but you will be judged on Superbowls or at least a winning record in post season football if it's a debate on best player in the league status. He's 9-10 in the playoffs.
The guy though seems like a bit of a geek, not much fire, very focused which did win him a ring and all. Personally I'd rather watch Shaun Hill for the Lions run like a mad man then listen to forty Manning audible calls a game.
I'm not player or franchise bashing, just my opinion. Hope it makes sense.

Another thought on Peyton.
I remember when he was at Tennessee and was being hyped to no end, only to lose to Florida all the time, and then the year after he goes pro Tennessee wins the National Championship.
I think that the comparison to Dan Marino is accurate. Puts up amazing numbers and plays on good teams but is somehow still not all that successful when it counts the most. At least he has a Championship though.

Peyton played a role in attracting those recruiting classes that won after he left. Not winning at the college level is not necessarily indicative about your potential, especially if your team was not a contender before you showed up.

Everyone seems so sure of that NFC game... I'm not. The Bears are a good team, in their own stadium. I think it's 60-40 in favour of the Bears in my opinion on who will win. No Packer fan, including me, is counting our chickens at all.

I think it's going to be a Pittsburgh-Green Bay Super Bowl, but I'm not going to cut out Chicago or e even the Jets.

It's impossible for me to predict a win for my own team but I truly think sexy Rexy is on a frickin' mission. He's like a gang leader with his team and I don't know how you stop them...unless the Sanchize bottles it. I think Jets/Green Bay or Chicago superbowl. ;D

I think that fans of both teams that have watched them all season long realize this is going to be a close, hard fought game between two very good teams. However because the Packers are the more exciting team on offense most of the time (Aaron Rogers maybe the best QB in football) and they have been talked about as a potential Superbowl team since they lost in last years playoffs and the Bears were projected to finish 3rd in the NFC North I think a lot of non-Bears/Packers fans view this a contenders vs pretenders game.

Well I think it might have to do with the whomping of the Seahawks. If it were the Saints, the casual fans would of been more impressed with the Bears performance.

The Cowboys will reportedly interview Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews for an assistant offensive line coach position.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Dolphins will hire Browns OC Brian Daboll for the same position in Miami.

Everyone seems so sure of that NFC game... Meanwhile, I'm sure the Bears team will use the lack of respect from the media as motivation, and consider themselves "underdogs" all the while in Green Bay, they have talked about them being the underdogs, being the #6 seed having to go on the road vs the higher seeds. Neither team will be lacking in motivation, both will be playing the "we are the underdog" role should be a good game

I think Bears/Packers will likely be a close, competitive match, but I just cannot buy into the Bears. I know they beat teams like Philly, the Jets, and split with the Packers, but still I can't. Maybe I'm just bitter that the Lions got screwed out of a victory by the Bears at least once, and possibly both times this year.

The biggest thing (IMO) that decides whether or not the Bears will win is what Cutler decides to show up. Yesterday's Cutler? You guys have a HUGE chance to win. The 4 INT and 3 Sack Cutler? Maybe not so much. It sort of reminds me of Rex Grossman (the situation, not the skill level), depending on which Rex Grossman showed up decided how good the Bears' shot was at winning the game. Regardless I don't see this being a high scoring game just because of how good the defense for both teams are, but I just think the Packers have the overall better team. If the Bears can get to the Super Bowl, my feelings on #6 put aside I'll be happy for Bears fans all over just because it's been so long. But the Packers are going to be a huge roadblock for the Bears I think.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Panthers have hired former Eagles DC Sean McDermott for the same position in Carolina.
I like it. I didn't really think he deserved to be fired in Philly, but what do I know.
