So yeah to continue my previous thoughts ... it's a great superhero action film. Downey Jr is on good form again as Tony Stark and Rhodes also gets a fair bit of screen time which he uses well. But hey you all want to know what I think about ... {Spoiler}Spoiler: The Villain Basically it makes perfect sense in the movie for Killian to have this cover for what he is doing. Guy Pearce is good in his role and is solid as the main bad guy. His powers kind of reminded me of The Melter/Molten Man which works as an obvious weakness the Iron Man Suits have. As for the Mandarin himself Kingsley does a wonderful job as both malevolent stage villain and foolish actor behind the Mandarin idea, the twist works in this format. {Spoiler}The Mandarin Sure anyone hoping to see a Kung Fu master with ten rings of magical destruction is going to be disappointed but frankly The Mandarin to me has always been either badly portrayed or inconsistent in every medium he has been in. The Comics have him all over the place with alien rings, chinese emperor heritage, terroism, feudal style ninja leader, sorcery, plain evil, superhuman martial artist or honorable it's just on the whole a mess. Meanwhile in other medium he has been Shredder style in cartoons, a misguided teenager with alien genetics and even a ghost in the animated film.
He's not Joker/Doom level as a well known villain, so I liked what they did with him it was fresh, yet kept the stylings and made the film more entertaining as a whole.

{Spoiler}I haven't seen the film yet. I read about the Mandarin and feel that it's a huge disappointment really. Fans have been waiting for this villain for quite sometime and for them to use this twist was such a cop out. Maybe when I watch the film it will make sense, however, he is the main villain for Iron Man and for them not to use him is really slapping the fans, the comics, and the character itself in the face.

Just saw it today. I thought it was brilliant, easily the best of the trilogy. Bringing in Shane Black was a great move as his trademark snappy dialogue fits Tony Stark perfectly. I have absolutely zero interest in comic books so I can say that I loved... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}The Mandarin being an actor. I never saw it coming and laughed out loud at when they revealed that he's really just Trevor and as I have no knowledge of the original source material I didn't feel short changed in any way. Also, loved that he seems to be a Liverpool fan.

Thought it was great! Still enjoy 1 the most, but this was leagues ahead of 2. {Spoiler}They took a MAJOR risk with the twist and it didn't completely whiff. They have a huge set of balls to attempt it. Before anybody calls "Deadpool" in regards to the Mandarin, hold on. The Mandarin was simply a fake out. Deadpool was a complete and utter betrayal. Though, I can understand why some fans won't like the twist. If you had high hopes for Mandy, you're gonna be really disappointed.

I am glad I read the spoilers before watching it. Knowing what to expect I enjoyed the movie a lot. If I went in not knowing the whole plot I would have been pissed. I loved it.

I went in knowing as little as possible when I went to an advance screening earlier this week. It was good but one major issue for me took me out of the film {Spoiler}I know that they wanted this film to stand alone but where was S.H.I.E.L.D. and the other heroes while all this shit is going down? They have built this larger universe and made multiple references to the Avengers movie in IM3. Also, adding a cute wiseass kid who is much smarter than a kid his age should be to a superhero franchise almost never works out.....

iM WITH ANticon, and was more pissed at the lack ok SHIELD/Avengers interaction, than anything with the Mandarin. At this point I know Hollywood might wanna make my heroes and villains different. Like corny ass organic webshooters, or beoming living metal instead of rocking BADASS armor.

{Spoiler}Watching all the talk shows, they're really pushing The Mandarin as the draw here, so them pulling a twist that completely kills the character... I'm really disappointed.
I know people are saying "but it leaves the possibility of the real Mandarin being introduced" but I just can't agree with that sentiment. They've killed any chance of that character being a real villain in the franchise. Unless they've specifically hinted at there being a real Mandarin, I don't see how he would work now.

It's like S.H.I.E.L.D. forgot to appoint a new liaison to Stark after Coulson possibly died in Avengers.

I'd assume that he probably told them to leave him alone after Avengers since he's still traumatized by the whole New York battle thing and whatnot.

I went to go see the movie. I did some research and watched the first and second one before going to watch this movie and I have to say that the paced changed fast! {Spoiler}Spoiler The moment they did that twist with The Mandarin i felt like the air was sucked out of me. I was shocked and annoyed. Hell even that neat little trailer thing they have after the credits felt a bit disappointing. Over all the movie was fine it just felt way different. Here is some thoughts by salimy3k from IMDb: {Spoiler}Spoiler Shane Black has utter CONTEMPT for what Iron Man is .
There! Much better!
Seriously, this dude seems to have a bit of a problem with Iron man. No big deal, except that's he's supposed to be the director of a movie that features IM as the main hero. Oops. Now, WHY do I think he doesn't much care for Iron Man? Here goes:
Iron Man spends less than twenty minutes of the ENTIRE movie in the armor suit. Which is not good as the film is titled 'Iron Man 3' and not 'Tony Stark 3'.
The Iron Man suits come under sustained attack and are damaged quite frequently. In fact, the end of the movie has Tony blow up all the Iron Man suits - this goes against everything Iron Man (and the Stark character) stands for - that is, turning his talents for destruction (weapons design) into something positive (the suit). There's a scene where the suit gets smashed by an oncoming truck. I bet it was good for a few laughs but the scene went on for some time with all the pieces being littered on the road in such fine detail that I felt that the scene was done with the intention of laughing AT Iron Man in a mocking way, not WITH him in an affectionate manner...
The suits are SO DAMN WEAK. The IM armor crashes in hostile terrain and Tony is forced to lug it around until he finds civilization (almost like the suit is a BURDEN instead of his crowning achievement. The suit takes a LONG time to power up (incredible as I though the arc reactor made it self-sufficient in the previous movie?) and Tony Stark (Tony, I repeat, NOT Iron Man) is forced to take on a female villain in a diner all by himself. Incredible. I was hoping for a crowd pleasing scene where Tony while running away from the villain, rushes back to the shed, the villain reaches up to the doors, the doors bust open and Iron Man is waiting there to bust some heads. but no. I guess, Shane Black does 'snappy dialogue' better than 'pleasing the crowd', which brings me to ...
Snappy dialogue. Shane Black (The Director of this movie) is also the script-writer. Shane Black does snappy dialogue well. fact, he does it SOOO well that he overdoes the 'snappy' dialogue bit by overloading every scene with witty banter that KILLS any sort of tension and danger that the main character may face. At NO point in this movie (except for the helicopter attack at Tony's seafront pad) did I ever feel that the main characters were in any sort of peril. Fact: Shane Black is to witty banter what Zac Snyder is to slo-mo. Plus, many scenes had a retro '80s buddy cop' sort of feel to them. Why? Fun fact: Shane Black used to script a lot of the big 1980s Action Movie Hits like Lethal Weapon and which had a formula of mis-matched cops being forced to work together and who gradually learn to appeciate each other and their differences (which complement each other's style of getting the job done). The scenes with Tony and James Rhodes at the pier reminded me a LOT of those old flicks - if I closed my eyes and listened to the dialogue, I swear I could almost be watching Lethal Weapon 5 instead of IM3!
Bizarre Conclusion. Tony is ineffectual, lets Pepper down by allowing her to fall into the fire (don't worry, she survives due to some chicanery in the plot). She then comes back to life and dispatches the villain, NOT Iron Man. All IM does is watch on passively and make some quips.
and last but not the least .....
The Mandarin is reduced to a joke. OK, so you need a 'twist' to keep the audience interested. Fine. But besmirching the reputation of Iron Man's greatest nemesis in order to do so? What nonsense! For the uninitiated, The Mandarin is Iron Man's greatest villain - his arch-nemesis to be exact. He's the main guy who's troubled Tony most in his super-hero career. Basically, whenever something bad happens to Iron Man, The Mandarin is usually the top suspect. And what does Shane Black do? Turn him into a punchline. It's a bit like someone making a Batman movie, and turning The Joker into an decoy played by a Chinese actor with a bad accent. And then you find out at the end that The Joker is really played by Rolf Harris - mate. I mean if one bad Australian actor (Guy Pearce) can claim to be a character, who by my recollection was a Chinese Nobleman armed with ten Alien Rings which gave him immeasurable power, then why can't another one claim to be Batman's greatest villain? Shane Black basically did to the Mandarin int this movie what 'Batman And Robin' did to Bane. If you want to see Bane done right, watch 'The Dark Knight Rises'. Better yet, skip the movies entirely and read the comic books.
Thank you Shane. After pondering how Marvel could possibly screw this franchise up after the success of The Avengers, you've given us a suitable reply. Thanks for nothing.

My thoughts on the movie. Anger ahead. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}The twist with The Mandarin took my entirely out of the movie. Just killed any interest I had. It left a terrible taste in my mouth. It's one thing to take some artistic license with a character, that I can truly understand, but to piss all over Iron Man's greatest villain is insulting to both the fans and the character. The more I think about it, the angrier I get.
To me, this is easily the weakest of the IM movies. Say what you will about part 2, but it least respected the characters it was portraying, but this one just basically said **** you to The Mandarin and made no apologies about it. I haven't left a theater this mad in a long, long time.

I did not like this movie. Once the twist happened, it just turned to shit. Shane Black's disdain for Iron Man is readily apparent.

One thought I had coming out is that Rebecca Hall would make a pretty good Wonder Woman.
She's got the looks and she's tall enough, just send her to the gym for a while and you're good.

Meh, it was alright I guess. I think I was just expecting too much after the Avengers. I just felt the movie moved pretty fast, although I tend to forgive that whenever we're dealing with a sequel and have already been introduced to characters. Regardless, I wouldn't say it was the best of the MCU films. I did, however, love the obligatory Stan Lee cameo. As for trailers, I got: The Hangover 3 Fast and the Furious 6 Star Trek 2 The Lone Ranger There may have been one more, but I can't remember.

I enjoyed it. Granted, I haven't seen/read any Iron Man stuff outside of the current wave of movies, so I know f*** all about the Mandarin, so I might have been pissed had I been a bigger fan. As for the trailers, I got:
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Star Trek Into Darkness The Lone Ranger The Wolverine Thor: The Dark World

Just got back from the film. Judging by some of the comments here I see I wasn't alone in my complete frustration with... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}the Mandarin twist. I wasn't like, losing myself in the movie or anything up until that point. I was really enjoying it though. I think the first half of the movie is pretty damn strong. But as soon as they reveal him to only be the face of the plan and not the actual villain, I was out. I didn't make myself out of frustration, I just checked out. Didn't care any more. And I'll tell you, I've never touched an Iron Man comic in my life. My sole exposure to these characters is through the Avengers films. So I had no idea what this villain was all about in the first place. But those videos that were sprinkled throughout the first half were so outstanding and Kingsley was so sinister that I was getting really amped up to see this confrontation. Then to have the rug pulled out was a real gut punch.
And I get what some of you are saying in defending the logic of it and how it makes sense. But I feel like we get in to these debates with wrestling a lot too. Do certain decisions make sense in a logical world? Sure. That doesn't necessarily mean they're what is going to deliver the most enjoyable end result. So yeah, it isn't a bad movie. It's certainly better than Iron Man 2. I probably won't go see it again though. I'll pick up the blu-ray on Black Friday this year because I won't really be a hurry to get it before that. Feel like they were setting up to really blow everyone away with something special and they went off the rails around half way in.
